Critics play a very important role in the success of movies since they get to see the latest releases before anyone else. They create a version of films that exist through reviews, scores, and whatever else gets attached to them in the first wave of reactions. And that version often ends up being the one people carry into the cinema, whether they agree with it or not. But Nicola Coughlan is not one of them.

Following his epic portrayal of Saul Goodman, Bob Odenkirk became an unexpected action star. In 2025's Normal, he plays Ulysses, who takes a job as a substitute sheriff in a small town. But a bank robbery interrupts his peace and exposes a secret about the community. The genre might seem like an odd choice for the actor, but it makes complete sense once you learn what his favorite movie is.

Adam Scott recently named a 2005 romantic comedy-drama as one of his favorite movies, and it feels like a very specific kind of comfort pick. The actor made the revelation while promoting his 2026 horror movie, Hokum. "There's a movie - I don't think people think it's bad, but a lot of people don't know it - called In Her Shoes," he told JustWatch.

This Underseen, Slow-Burn Sci-Fi Horror Is More Traumatizing Than ‘A Quiet Place’
A Quiet Place (2018) proved that a movie doesn’t need dialogue to be absolutely terrifying. The sci-fi horror follows the Abbott family as they struggle to survive in a world where extraterrestrial creatures have decimated humanity. In A Quiet Place, the aliens have a unique physiology that renders them blind and reliant on their highly sensitive hearing. To survive, the Abbott family lives in almost complete silence. Aside from sign language and a few whispers, the film is largely devoid of sound. It’s a premise that lends itself well to the slow-burning sci-fi horror that’s so tense and suspenseful you’ll often find yourself holding your breath in anticipation.

For decades, Godzilla has endured as one of the most defining and dominant franchises in the world. After Godzilla first stomped onto the scene in 1954, over three dozen films have been released, and a new entry, Godzilla Minus Zero (2026), is slated to come out in 2026. Godzilla is simply one of the most important franchises in Japanese cinema, but as important as it is, it may be almost impossible to watch every Japanese entry.

Steven Spielberg's Disclosure Day (2026) is garnering mixed reactions from both fans and critics and, unsurprisingly, stirring an uproar online. The movie struggles a bit with pacing at the beginning, and some moments almost seem too inconsequential for how big the narrative angle should be. (How is it that Josh O'Connor's character could hide in plain sight without anyone spotting him?) Still, once it finds its footing and starts to answer the questions we're asking right alongside the characters, it becomes exceptional.

Both sci-fi and romance are niche genres that don't always merge as much as I'd like them to. Sure, Han and Leia's love story in Star Wars is a timeless classic at this point, but it's not nearly enough to scratch all the right itches. But thankfully, while it's canon, fan fiction and extended universe books give us the details we desperately want.
