‘Enola Holmes 3’ Trailer Breakdown: Cast, Release Date & Plot, Explained
Millie Bobby Brown is back as the titular detective in Netflix’s Enola Holmes 3 (2026). With the last movie releasing years ago, there is plenty of anticipation for this next movie. After finding her footing as a detective and finding love with Tewkesbury (Louis Partridge), there’s still so much left for Enola Holmes (Bobby Brown) to solve, like a case that hits too close to home.
Not to mention, Enola Holmes 3 also teases that Enola will have to question whether she wants to get married or not. Yes, the character has come a long way since her debut in Enola Holmes (2020). It’s exciting to imagine what new heights—literal and figurative—Enola will experience in this movie, which takes her all the way to Malta. The details reveal some of what takes her there, but it seems like there is a much larger mystery afoot for Enola to solve.
Meet the ‘Enola Holmes 3’ Cast

It wouldn’t be Enola Holmes 3 without Millie Bobby Brown back in the titular role. She is also back as a producer on the project. Bobby Brown stars alongside returning cast members Henry Cavill as Sherlock Holmes, Louis Partridge as Tewkesbury, Helena Bonham Carter as Eudoria Holmes, and Sharon Duncan-Brewster as Moriarty. Fans will remember that Enola Holmes 2 (2022) initially introduced Duncan-Brewster as Mira Troy and Enola and her brother uncovered the truth. The sequel also used its post-credits scene to introduce another highly-anticipated character—Dr. John Watson (Hamish Patel). Patel will reprise his role in Enola Holmes 3.
Jack Thorne, who wrote the first two movies, returns to pen the script. Meanwhile, Adolescence (2025) director Philip Barantini will direct Enola Holmes 3. He takes over for Harry Bradbeer, who directed the first two movies. “I wanted to challenge myself and make something my daughter could watch. She’s 8 and loved the first two films, so making something she could really be part of was one of the key reasons I wanted to do this film,” Barantini told Netflix’s TUDUM. As always, the movie is based on The Enola Holmes Mysteries by Nancy Springer.
What Is ‘Enola Holmes 3’ About?

Deadline first announced that Enola Holmes would get another movie in April 2024. By their report, Barantini was joining the project with a take “to go a little darker and skew a little older.” It was hard to tell what that really meant when Netflix announced that the movie was in production a year later in April 2025. The first-look photos, again, released in April the following year, teased the more adult take on the character with a giant engagement ring on Enola’s finger.
The Enola Holmes 3 synopsis leaves much more to mystery than the trailer. Its logline reads: “Adventure chases detective Enola Holmes to Malta, where personal and professional dreams collide on a case more tangled and treacherous than any she has faced before.” Without knowing there’s a wedding to be had (or not), it was hard to know why Enola would follow an adventure to Malta. After all, the sequel saw the titular character set up shop above Edith’s (Susan Wokoma) studio. Then again, Enola can’t help but follow a good clue.
‘Enola Holmes 3’ Trailer Breakdown and Release Date

The newer, more mature themes seem to be a highlight of the project for Bobby Brown. “I’ve grown up alongside her, so exploring those themes felt really personal. It’s about balancing independence with love, ambition with vulnerability, and figuring out what parts of yourself you want to hold onto versus what you’re ready to let change. That felt really honest to play,” she told Netflix’s TUDUM. Bobby Brown made her debut as the young detective in 2020, just four years after breaking out in one of the world’s biggest shows, Stranger Things (2016).
After saying goodbye to Eleven, Millie Bobby Brown embarks on this new chapter with Enola Holmes. As the trailer reveals, this era includes a wedding to Tewkesbury, who, to everyone’s surprise, has a first name. It seems like the happy couple had plenty of time to, well, be happy together after their happy ending in the sequel. Enola even says, “Life was everything I wanted it to be when it was just the two of us.” But everything takes a rather high-octane change when Dr. Watson brings news to Enola. Sherlock—who appears skeptical of his sister and Earnest Augustus’s (What a name!) engagement earlier in the trailer—has been kidnapped.
While trying to find her brother, Enola also grapples with what she wants for her future and if that includes marriage. In a vulnerable moment, she asks, “Can I love him without losing myself?” It seems like Enola’s confidence in herself is unwavering during this transformative time in her life. So much so, she doubts if her mother even believes she’s capable. To which Eudoria replies, “On the contrary. I think you’re extraordinary.” As someone who has thoroughly enjoyed every Enola Holmes installment, I couldn’t agree more. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for her when Enola Holmes 3 premieres on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, on Netflix.
