Coming off a string of hits that include Creed and Black Panther, Ryan Coogler goes full horror in his vampire film Sinners -- and it's one of the best films he's ever made. A slow-burn approach to characters and setting fully fleshes out the world that the movie's second half is dedicated to burning down, a tricky proposition that only skilled filmmakers can meet. With a perfectly committed cast, stirring music, and a flair for creature effects that would make John Carpenter swoon, the stylish Sinners is proof that the vampire genre still has plenty of life in it.

A sequel to 2016's The Accountant, the somewhat expected action movie tropes are elevated to an entirely new level thanks to two charming lead performances. Reprising their roles as estranged brothers Christian and Braxton, Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal find a deceptively great rhythm as they squabble, bond, and fight their way through faceless goons to unravel a criminal ring. The cast is solid across the board, especially Daniella Pineda as a mysterious wildcard, but there's no denying that the film is best when it lets Affleck and Bernthal riff on their surprisingly great dynamic.
