Star Wars has come a long way since it first hit theaters in 1977, and now, with so many avenues to explore, there are more than a few movies and shows coming to theaters and Disney+. But with so many planned projects, it’s hard to know what will and won’t be happening.

For this list, we will be looking at all of the currently confirmed Star Wars movies and shows that are coming out in the next few years. Unfortunately, with projects like The Hunt for Ben Solo, Taika Waititi’s movie, Lando, James Mangold’s Dawn of the Jedi film, and the Rogue Squadron movie, to name a few, there’s not enough information to say if they’re happening. But for now, these are the seven Star Wars projects fans can look forward to.

Star Wars: Visions started as a non-canon look at the Star Wars universe, telling stories from various animation studios, first from Japan and then from around the world. One episode, “The Ninth Jedi,” stood out in the first season as one of the best the series had to offer.

Animated by Production I.G (Ghost in the Shell), Star Wars: Visions Presents - The Ninth Jedi looks to continue the story of a young girl, chosen to become a Jedi but entrapped by the Sith. There’s no release date for the series yet, but it’s set to debut in 2026 and is the perfect follow-up for fans of Visions.

Directed by Shawn Levy of Deadpool & Wolverine (2024) fame and starring Ryan Gosling, last seen in Project Hail Mary (2026), Star Wars: Starfighter is set five years after Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019). Not much is known about the plot yet, save for the fact that it should have a heavy focus on starfighter pilots in the Star Wars universe.

Like The Mandalorian and Grogu (2026), Star Wars: Starfighter isn’t trying to tie deeper into the Star Wars mythos. Instead, it’s a standalone story set for release on May 28, 2027. While that’s still over a year of waiting, movies like Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018) help keep the starfighter pilot tone of the film alive.

Ahsoka

2023

Dave Filoni’s Ahsoka series is exactly what fans of Star Wars Rebels (2014) needed, as it serves as a spiritual sequel to the hit animated series. After the first season ended on a cliffhanger with Grand Admiral Thrawn taking his fleet back to his home galaxy, it left viewers wondering what would come next.

Dave Filoni is also working on a Mandoverse movie that I mentioned on this list as well, but for Ahsoka Season 2, it’s unclear whether or not the film will build to it or follow it up. As a result, its release is unknown, though filming has been completed.

Fans of Darth Maul have been treated well since his first appearance in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999). He became a radical leader in Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008), a twisted mentor in Star Wars Rebels, and now a crime lord in Maul - Shadow Lord.

Following the ending of the first season, there are many opportunities for the future of the character, and his popularity hasn’t gone unnoticed. Though there’s no release date set, Season 2 of Maul - Shadow Lord is underway after a stellar first season.

Dave Filoni has earned his place as possibly the biggest fan of Star Wars movies and one of the few to truly understand the lore. Following The Mandalorian and Grogu, his next film project is an untitled movie that ties together the Mandoverse and the New Republic stories told on television.

The rumored plot is that it could draw on elements from Timothy Zahn’s Heir to the Empire novel and bring together Ahsoka, Boba Fett, Din Djarin, and Grogu’s story for a huge crossover. As of now, the film is still in some form of production, but principal photography hasn’t started. Nevertheless, The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, and The Book of Boba Fett (2021) are the perfect shows to watch as a setup.

While The Rise of Skywalker ended the Skywalker Saga on a divisive note, many of the characters have still been adored by fans, including Rey, who ended her journey as a Jedi ready to forge her own path. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Ms. Marvel) will be the one setting her on that path in a film focusing on Rey starting a new Jedi Order.

Yet another film at a level of production, but hasn’t started filming, it’s important for a movie set after the sequel trilogy to take its time and start on the right foot, especially with Rey’s return. Until then, The Force Awakens (2015), The Last Jedi (2017), and The Rise of Skywalker remain perfect setups.

2023

Simon Kinberg may be most popular for his work on the X-Men movies, but he also co-created Star Wars Rebels, making him a more-than-worthy shepherd of a new trilogy of films. It’s hard to say, however, if this will be a continuation of the numbered series or a whole new trilogy.

There’s next to nothing to go on in terms of story or direction, but anything could be possible, from continuing the narrative to telling a new prequel trilogy tied to the Old Republic. Nevertheless, time will surely reveal what’s to come.
