What Happened At The End Of ‘Widow’s Bay’ Season 1, Episode 7?

Widow’s Bay Season 1, Episode 7, “Seasickness,” ends with Richard Warren turning into ash and bones. This comes after Wyck and Patricia dug up his grave and found him still alive. It was agreed upon by all that to end the curse placed on the Warren bloodline, they would take Richard past a specific buoy surrounding the island.

As they’re getting closer to the buoy by boat, Tom releases Richard from his coffin despite Wyck’s protests. The island eventually fights back, something slamming into the boat from underneath. That’s when Richard decides he wants to live and attacks Tom and Wyck. Wyck eventually gets knocked off the boat, and Richard falls back in his coffin. When he and Tom cross the buoys around Widow’s Bay, Richard turns to ash and bones.

In a panic, Tom tries to find Wyck in the water and, surprise, surprise, he’s still alive. He didn’t cross over the buoy barrier around the island. So, they head back to Widow’s Bay. That’s when we’re clued into the curse not being lifted.

For one, Evan looks devastated as he stares at a picture of his mom, knowing his father lied to him. Then, back at the bed and breakfast, we see a patron complaining about their luggage before the camera focuses on a painting on the wall. This painting makes sense now. It depicts Sarah Warren taking Richard’s children off the island. One of them is in the water, meaning that one of them possibly survived, and the Warren bloodline isn’t actually gone.

Widow’s Bay continued dropping hints as to the mysteries and lore prevalent on the island. To help you keep track of important details, we’ve written all the island lore revealed in Season 1, Episode 7, “Seasickness.”

  • Richard Warren sees Tom as the “Lord Island Protector.”

  • When Richard and the townspeople first landed on Widow’s Bay, the island didn’t even have vermin. Some people resorted to eating dirt and corpses to survive.

  • Richard was starving when he ate the Truesight mushroom the first time, and the entity was also starving.

  • Richard confirmed that desperate men are what the entity seeks.

  • The Warren bloodline is tied to the island. When it ends, so does the pact between the island and the townspeople.

  • Wyck’s best friend, Mark Doyle, and his sister, Gerrie, are featured in a photo he carries with him. When they were 16, they went fishing when something attacked their boat. It had tentacles, and it took Mark. They were near the buoy border around the island.

  • Evan’s mother came home from the hospital after his birth and stayed until he was a toddler. But her mind was gone.

  • When Richard Warren passed the borders of the island, he turned to ash and bone.

What Supernatural Things Happened In ‘Widow’s Bay’ Season 1, Episode 7?

The main supernatural thing that happened in Widow’s Bay Season 1, Episode 7, is tied to the Warren bloodline.

Richard made a pact with the entity in the 1700s that allowed the island to flourish for 300+ years. When Tom and Wyck take him to the water that borders the island, it seems like everything’s going according to plan. Even when he turns to ash and bones, it still feels like Tom and Wyck have finally broken the curse, but then there’s the painting.

Back in Season 1, Episode 2, “Lodging,” a painting was teased, with Tom looking at it with slight horror. After the events of Season 1, Episode 6, “Our History,” we can now tell that this is Sarah Warren taking Richard’s children off the island, with one of them falling into the water and receiving help, as you can see a paddle reaching out to them.

The thing is, if everything that happened in “Seasickness” is true, the island fought Sarah and the children as they were making it off the island. So, when those waves got hard, it would be easy for one to fall out. We can also assume that all of the children on the boat died. That leaves the youngest child, who we think is Francis, in the water.

If one of Richard’s children survived and made it back to Widow’s Bay, the covenant between the entity and the Warren bloodline is still alive and well. With it being 300+ years since the events of 1702, there can be dozens of relatives of Widow’s Bay, making things infinitely more complicated for Tom, Wyck, and Patricia.
