Toy Story 5 (2026) was an unexpected addition from Pixar, especially after how well the last film closed out the series, and even the one before that. It seemed unnecessary for a new entry, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have something to say now that it’s in theaters.

Toy Story 5 follows Jessie and her efforts to help Bonnie find friendship, as well as fighting against the addition of tech in the toy space. It tackles a lot of ideas that culminate into an exciting and heartfelt ending. Here’s how Toy Story 5’s conclusion unfolds.

Jessie Gets Closure With Emily

Jessie and Bullseye, trying to join Bonnie on her sleepover, get caught in a situation where they not only get lost, but are also sent back to her old owner, Emily’s house. While there, she meets the toys of another child named Blaze, who is both sweet and just as fun as Bonnie. Jessie, struggling with a prejudice against tech toys and frustrated that Bonnie is growing too fast, doesn’t see that Blaze is the key right away. But in her sadness, she returns to the tree she spent the summers with Emily and learns that she never forgot Jessie and named her daughter after her.

Since Toy Story 2, Emily was framed as a villain in Jessie’s life for how she hurt her and caused her trauma. In reality, Emily just grew up but never forgot about Jessie and the impact she had on her. What resulted was the closure Jessie greatly needed.

Lilypad Tries To Push The Toys Away

With Jessie gone, Lilypad turns on the toys, who just want to figure out where Jessie went and want to get her back. However, as they try to send a message through her, they get sent to the garage. Veaucese Bonnie is so plugged in to her tablet that she doesn’t even realize what she agreed to.

With the toys gone, it’s up to Buzz and Woody to get to Jessie’s location once Jessie sends Bonnie a message through Blaze’s tech toys. To do this, they hitch a ride to Blaze’s house and try to get Jessie while the toys sit in the garage.

Jessie And Her New Tech Friends Help Bonnie

Jessie, working with Blaze’s old tech toys, Smarty Pants, Atlas, and Snappy, tries to find Lilypad, who gives herself away to be donated after feeling guilty for making Bonnie hang out with friends who teased her for having toys. Once they find her, they realize they need to get off the fast-moving donation truck.

Throughout Toy Story 5, an army of high-tech Buzz Lightyears look for Star Command, finding their way to Jessie’s sheriff badge instead. Now, seeing her as Star Command, Lilypad links the new Buzz app to her system and the army. While listening to Jessie, she uses their drone wing abilities to fly Buzz and Woody back to Bonnie and Jessie and Bullseye to Blaze. Their goal is to use tech to get Jessie returned to Bonnie and, hopefully, spark a friendship

In the end, Lilypad and Jessie put their faith in one another in hopes that Blaze will return Jessie and Bullseye to Bonnie. When she knocks on the door, Bonnie is shy at first. But once the two realize they are the perfect match in strangeness, they agree to play and spark a friendship.

As they play, there is a scene that shows how Bonnie and Blaze, still using technology, intermix it with their regular toys (now out of the garage) to create more memories. While playing, they take pictures, and it becomes one of the sweetest moments in the franchise, all while Lilypad and Jessie see each other as equals and Jessie accepts tech.

Jessie Gets Married To Buzz

Over the course of Toy Story 5, Buzz tries hard to propose to Jessie since he confessed his love for her in Toy Story 4 (2019), but he is too shy. Ultimately, he does, and Jessie claims he’s stuck with her. With all the toys reunited, Blaze and Bonnie marry Buzz and Jessie.

Of course, they’re still playing, so the wedding is dramatically disrupted by Trixie claiming she’s his wife and he’s done this three times before already. But the toys know the truth, and as Woody and Bo Peep watch, they catch the bouquet and ride off into the sunset as Jessie and Buzz start a new life together.

When Bonnie receives a Lilypad tablet as a gift and becomes obsessed, Buzz, Woody, Jessie and the rest of the gang's jobs become exponentially harder when they have to go head to head with the all-new threat to playtime.
