Still, all hope is not lost for a White Chicks sequel, because underneath the maligned critical reception is a dedicated fanbase and a pretty impressive box office.

Truthfully, calling Scary Movie (2026) a critical flop isn't entirely fair. Any fan of the franchise knows the Wayans aren't worried about impressing critics; they're all about the fans. The original Scary Movie and Scary Movie 2—two fan favorites—hold 52% and 13% critic scores on Rotten Tomatoes, respectively. Yet, they retain a strong cult following and frequently rank among the best parody movies of all time.
If we look at 2026's Scary Movie, the trend continues. On Rotten Tomatoes, the new movie holds a 24% critic score, with the audience score coming at a decently strong 66%. More importantly, it grossed $173.2 million against a reported $30 million budget, making it a certifiable success. The issues of gender and racial stereotypes will always be a hot-button topic when it comes to White Chicks, but it also hides a deeper meaning about stepping into someone else's shoes, similar to films like Tootsie (1982) or Switch (1991). Not to mention it remains a scathing critique of beauty standards.
If the box-office success of Scary Movie (2026) proves anything, it's that audiences are hungry for early 2000s nostalgia. Adapting White Chicks for a modern audience is tricky, but the Wayans seem up for the task.
