How Will Grey Hulk Debut In 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day'? We Think We Know
Spider-Man: Brand New Day has more than a few moving parts, and that was teased as early as the first trailer with its multiple villains alone ahead of its premiere on July 31, 2026. However, there’s reason to believe, thanks to various reveals, that the Hulk will be back and more savage than ever in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Hulk’s appearance isn’t the major mystery, though, because there’s reason to believe that it’s not impossible to include one of Bruce Banner’s alters in the Grey Hulk. But how could that even happen? There’s not much to go on, but we think there’s a way he could appear.
Grey Hulk Is A Major Part Of The Hulk’s Story
Technically, the Grey Hulk debuted in The Incredible Hulk #1 when Bruce Banner first transformed into the Hulk. But he changed to green not long after because the printer struggled to print the color grey. Ever since, the Hulk has appeared with his now-classic green skin.
It wasn’t until 1986 that the grey version of the Hulk returned in The Incredible Hulk #324 as the alias Joe Fixit. As Joe, Grey Hulk was far more intelligent and calculating, while also being much stronger. He remained one of the more popular alter egos among fans as well.
Now, Grey Hulk is often considered one of the scarier versions, not because he’s stronger than a savage Hulk, but because he’s far more calculating. He wants to hurt with purpose, and it makes him a major threat. Green Hulk wouldn’t exist without Grey Hulk, and that alone makes him an important part of the Hulk’s story, and we are long overdue to see him officially in the MCU.
Mister Negative Could Play A Role In Grey Hulk’s MCU Debut
There’s no official confirmation of Mister Negative appearing alongside another street-level mob boss like Tombstone, but as the first Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer teased mind manipulation, it also doesn’t rule out his influence. If so, it could lead to a similar idea introduced in Marvel’s Spider-Man and give Mister Negative more than enough to work with.
With May no longer running F.E.A.S.T., Martin Li is in a great position to step in. As street-level problems seem to be at the foundation of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, he could use his crew and whatever else is at his disposal to take over the city. This could include manipulating the savage Hulk, who is confirmed to appear thanks to a Marvel Legends figure, into the even more rage-filled Grey Hulk. If so, very little could stop this version. More than that, it’s a character that has never appeared on the big screen, and that alone is terrifying. Still, it is exactly what would be needed to tease Mister Negative’s strength and Spider-Man’s new power-ups.
Another Character Could Also Create (Or Save) Grey Hulk
There’s a lot of mystery tied to who Sadie Sink’s character could be in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, with the chief suspect being Jean Grey. With images of leaked toys confirming a green and yellow outfit as well as pink energy (all Jean’s colors), there’s more evidence to this notion than ever.
If true, it could mean one of two things regarding her part in a potential Grey Hulk rampage. One is that she’s the cause of it, using her powers to control the Hulk to make a clean getaway from Damage Control and also the reason the Hulk has gone grey. It wouldn’t be the first time either, as the Hulk was a pale green when manipulated by the Scarlet Witch in Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015).
On the other hand, she could be the key to saving the Hulk, who could’ve gone grey from Mister Negative’s negative powers, making him a weapon. If so, Jean is the only one who, in a battle within the Hulk’s mind, could save him from such a savage rampage. Fans have wanted the Hulk to rampage for years, and should he go grey, the fans would be on Cloud 9. But if Jean Grey plays any part, it could make the film more exciting than it already is.
