‘Obsession’ Might Become an Anthology Series - Here’s How It Could Work
Are we getting more of director Curry Barker’s Obsession (2026)? That’s the question on everyone’s mind as the movie continues to dominate the box office. And thanks to a recent interview, we might have an answer, or what Barker would want, to be more exact, if he had the opportunity to play more in the Obsession universe. He revealed he wants to do an anthology series.
But how would an Obsession anthology series work? Also, what are some other anthologies to check out if you’ve never tried watching it and feel like now is your time? We’ve got you covered, so head over to Netflix, Disney+, and more, to check those out! We’re also going to discuss what other movies Barker is working on. Warning: he’s doing more horror!
How Would an ‘Obsession’ Anthology Series Work?

During an interview with Screen Rant, Barker got candid about the fact that he’s thinking about what he would do if he got a chance to return to the world of Obsession. He clarified that nothing has been confirmed but that if he were to do a sequel to Obsession, it would be in the form of a TV anthology series.
Barker said that he would like a series that is about eight episodes. And each episode is a wish being granted thanks to the One Wish Willow and the consequences that come from it. He would like to direct the pilot and then have other filmmakers come in and direct the rest of the episodes.
He went on to say that some wishes don’t deserve an hour and 45 minutes. Some just deserve an hour. And when Michael Johnston, who plays Bear, asked if there would be happy endings, Barker gave an answer that is totally him. He said there could be a happy ending in one of these stories, and then you’re just waiting the entire time for something bad to happen and it never does.
What Are Some Other Anthology Series To Watch Now?

When it comes to anthologies, there’s two main kinds. There’s an anthology series that focuses on one storyline per season like in Beef (2023) or True Detective (2014). And then there are anthology series like what is being proposed with Obsession where every episode is a different story. Personally, the latter is my favorite and there’s plenty of options out there to watch when it comes to episodic anthology series.
If you like animation, you should try Love, Death & Robots (2019). This adult-oriented series covers every genre and style of art with a sci-fi twist, meaning that no matter what, you’re going to find something you enjoy in this series. You could also try What If…? (2021). For a Marvel series, it’s the most accessible one yet because you don’t have to have the knowledge of 30+ movies to understand these stories. Each is its own deviation from MCU canon.
If you like horror, you should try Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities (2022). From the master of horror, it’s a curated collection of different horror stories from different directors. And for someone with an eye for visually stunning work and disturbing but engaging stories, these picks are great. There’s also the classic Tales From the Crypt (1989). Hosted by the Crypt Keeper, it’s a campy dark comedy and staple of the ‘90s.
And if you like a little drama with your dystopian anthology series, then you have to try Black Mirror (2011). It’s an exploration of the unintended consequences of technology through humanity. It’s brutal, romantic, terrifying, heartbreaking, and has a star-studded cast. Also, the show has gotten a little too on point with its predictions as to where technology is set to head, leaving people wondering what they could possibly do next.
What Other Movies or Shows Is Curry Barker Working On?

Since the success of Obsession, Barker has absolutely blown up in the Hollywood space. And at the moment, he has two major projects in the works.
The first project that Barker is working on is Anything But Ghosts. He’s bringing this movie to life alongside longtime collaborator Cooper Tomlinson. Both will be starring in the movie and writing it while Barker will also be the executive producer and director. And it tells the story of two fake paranormal investigators facing actual ghosts.
The other project that Barker is working on is his upcoming Texas Chainsaw Massacre reboot. This one will be based on the 2003 reboot The Texas Chainsaw Massacre starring Jessica Biel. And it makes sense, because this was one of the first horror movies that Barker watched as a kid. He was probably a little too young to be watching this film, but it clearly left an impression and here we are all these years later.
