When Is 'Punisher: One Last Kill' Set On The Marvel Timeline?
The Punisher: One Last Kill (2026) is the latest special presentation in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, airing on Disney+. It follows Frank Castle after the events of Daredevil: Born Again (2025) Season 1, and his struggles to stay afloat after finally avenging his family.
One thing that audiences have wanted to know is where this Punisher special stands compared to his time on Born Again, and the answer is actually more complex than expected. But one thing that’s for certain is that this special is the best way to get fans ready for the Punisher’s big screen debut in Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026).
‘The Punisher: One Last’ Kill Is Set Within Another Marvel Show

Considering how short The Punisher: One Last Kill is, it’s hard to figure out the timeline, aside from after the first season of Born Again, when Castle escapes Kingpin’s custody. However, from there, things get more muddy.
The straight answer is that The Punisher: One Last Kill is set both before and during the events of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, which helps to justify why the Punisher wasn’t in this season. Daredevil and the Punisher often cross paths, considering how many demons he faced in the special, it makes sense that he was preoccupied.
The Punisher: One Last Kill also ends before the finale of Born Again Season 2, which could account for the lack of police presence in the mean streets of Little Sicily. In short, it created the perfect environment for someone like Frank Castle to operate, even if he was having his own existential crisis.
‘The Punisher: One Last Kill’ Clarifies An MCU Street-Level Criticism

One thing that I’ve seen a lot of fans questioning is why Spider-Man never appears during the events of Daredevil: Born Again. Considering how much happens in the streets with the AVTF and Daredevil conducting a war with the mayor, it was a shock not to see him. The Punisher: One Last Kill clarifies this in the best way because it proves, through Frank Castle’s exploits, how hard it is for heroes to be there all the time.
New York City is a massive place, and there are only so many heroes operating there below The Avengers. That includes Daredevil, Spider-Man, Kate Bishop and even the Punisher. Other than that, it’s a coin toss whether or not they’re still active.
The Punisher: One Last Kill proves that so long as there’s crime, the heroes can’t always be there—even the eradication of the Gnucci crime family wasn’t enough to get Spider-Man’s help. I’ve always wanted more heroes to interact, but realistically, the MCU isn’t in a place for that to make any sense yet.
‘The Punisher: One Last Kill’ Proves New York City Is Ready For More Heroes

The chaos in Little Sicily, happening at the same time as a citywide conflict, proved that New York City still needs more heroes to protect it. One mayor was so focused on catching Daredevil that he completely disregarded every other bad thing that happened under his leadership.
Unfortunately, the only one who could make a difference was the Punisher, and that was only because he helped create some of the violence in the first place. It’s a situation that couldn’t have happened if The Punisher: One Last Kill came after Daredevil: Born Again, timeline-wise.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is filled with heroes, but it lacks many in the one city they’re most famous for being in. Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 will help to fix this by bringing back characters like Luke Cage and Iron Fist, but it doesn’t help that so much damage has already been done. The Punisher: One Last Kill is a great special that could’ve only worked in the timeline it’s in because once Frank embraces the skull, it will prove that more heroes need to take a stand in a city that continues to evolve.
