Spider-Man: Brand New Day Ending, Explained
Peter Parker is back in Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026) and of course he’s not having a good time. No one remembers him, he’s been watching his friends live their lives for four years, and his body is manifesting that pain into something real. And he’s dealing with all of that while arguing with The Punisher and going after a mysterious new villain that jumps from body to body.
If you’ve watched the movie, or if you’re just looking for spoilers of your own free will, we’ve got you covered on how Spider-Man: Brand New Day ends. But of course, that also means there’s going to be major spoilers, like the fact that Sadie Sink is in fact Jean Grey or how Ned remembers Peter by the end of the film.
Beyond going over the ending of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, I’m going to be talking about that post-credits scene and what it’s teasing because it’s obviously Secret Wars. And then I’ll take you through the how and why when it comes to Ned remembering Peter. Because apparently some people are still a little confused about that and how/if he got his memory back.
How Did ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ End?
Spider-Man: Brand New Day ends with Jean taking a step into Spider-Man’s mind and experiencing a memory with Aunt May. Her words comfort Jean enough to calm her down and allow Peter to talk to her about what they’d lost. While Jean is in his brain, Peter senses something in the real world and manages to pull them out, taking a bullet meant for Jean.
This sacrifice shocks Jean out of the world-ending grief she was feeling. And she uses her powers to stabilize Peter enough for Frank Castle to get him to a hospital and through whatever surgery or help he needs. Peter’s sacrifice also changes Frank. He’s spent so much time arguing with Peter about what to do with these criminals and now he saw this kid jump in front of one of his bullets to save someone else because of how strong his belief was.
Frank eventually distracts the crowd waiting outside for Spider-Man and Peter walks out to see all the people of New York City who are there to support him. Afterwards, we see Peter seemingly back on track when it comes to the crime-fighting of it all while on the phone with Detective Jean DeWolff. But this time he takes her advice and lets her handle the crime alert they both got. Oh, also Jean Grey has managed to escape and is on a bus to what looks like Upstate New York. Who knows what she might find up there...
But back to Peter. This is when Peter spots Ned.
Instead of walking away or watching from a distance, Peter introduces himself to Ned. When they shake hands, it transforms into their iconic handshake. And even though Ned doesn’t remember Peter, his body seamlessly does the handshake. Something crosses Ned’s face at the surprising turn of events. Then he looks up at Peter and says his name, finally remembering him.
Wait, we’re not done yet!
After the end credits we get a notification from the Spidey tracker. The map shows Queens, NY. The notification says that there’s a new Spider-Man sighting but that the location is unknown. That’s when the map zooms out and then turns away from Earth and into the vastness of space. The app glitches a couple times before a red dot appears in space and a notification says, “Location found.”
What Is the End ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Possibly Teasing?
Short answer: The ending of Spider-Man: Brand New Day teases Secret Wars, a mega-crossover that makes what Thanos did in Avengers: Infinity War (2018) look like child's play.
Long answer: The ending of Spider-Man: Brand New Day teases Secret Wars, a brutal fight involving heroes, villains, and some God-like beings known as Beyonders. And with the way that Marvel is going, and what they’ve teased about Doom in Avengers: Doomsday (2026), it makes sense that this is the direction we’re going in.
Secret Wars has two main series; three if we’re being technical. In Secret Wars 1984, a bunch of beloved superheroes and hated villains end up being transported onto strange spaceships. Why? Because some powerful being known as the Beyonder wants them to battle it out in a patchwork planet known as Battleworld. It’s theater so that some God can play around with all these beings just because they can. New villains were introduced, Doom was a major problem, and Spider-Man came into contact with the sentient black costume that would later be known as Venom.
The story told in the 1984 series was then continued in Secret Wars II in 1985. This time around the Beyonder is still messy and thinks he can just play around with beings. But he takes a different approach by walking in our shoes, becoming one of us, and then making everything bend to his will because he can. Typical stuff of God-like beings with too much time on their hands. Thankfully, Doom wasn’t a problem here. That was all the Beyonder’s audacity.
Skip forward to 2015 and Marvel took the bones of the first run of Secret Wars from 1984 and tried to create something a little different. Instead of one Beyonder, there were multiple and apparently the first one we encountered was just a baby Beyonder. Oh, and Doctor Doom and his partner in world-ending disasters Owen Reece aka the Molecule Man were responsible for planet ending incursions to “save” the world as we know it.
Of course, we get to see tons of heroes and villains, and their multiple variants in the 2015 Secret Wars. But Doctor Doom is the main antagonist who ends up ruling his own Battleworld after all the other worlds are gone. So imagine our Peter Parker there, the different faces he might encounter along the way from multiple universes, and maybe we’ll see the return of some of the other Peter Parkers like we did in Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021). Either way, it’s going to be painful and hopefully epic.
Does Ned Actually Remember Peter?
Unlike what happened with MJ, aka Jean tricking Peter into thinking a kiss brought back her memories, Ned remembers his best friend. It all comes down to muscle memory. Peter and Ned did their handshake all the time and became second nature to them. So when Peter introduced himself to Ned and initiated their handshake, Ned’s body remembered and then his brain followed.
Now some people might theorize that Ned was only saying “Peter” because MJ said his name earlier and Ned was connecting the dots that he’s Spider-Man. But the movie in itself was very intentional about making sure that MJ found out Peter’s secret and not Ned. Because as much as Peter loves MJ, Ned is his best friend. And sometimes it’s harder to tell those closest to us the actual truth.
So no, Ned didn’t say “Peter” at the end there because he realized he was talking to Spider-Man. He said his name because he remembered his best friend. We don’t know the extent of what remembering is going to do to Peter or the spell cast by Doctor Strange. But at the moment that doesn’t matter because someone remembers Peter Parker.
