'Seven Havens': Why Hasn't There Been An Avatar Since Korra?
Avatar: Seven Havens (2026) introduces viewers to a world very different from Avatar: The Last Airbender (2005) and The Legend of Korra (2012). The series takes place 225 years after The Legend of Korra, where the surviving civilization has been divided into seven havens after a cataclysmic event. In Ellora, one of the seven havens, society lives in fear of natural disasters as violent tornadoes and sandstorms rock the Earth. With the number of benders dwindling, the city requires all known benders to register with and serve in the Bending Brigade to protect it. Pavi (Saheli Khan), a young orphan, hides her Earthbending abilities after witnessing the Brigade take young children from their homes to serve.
The world in Avatar: Seven Havens is quite harsh and dreary. The dusty, post-apocalyptic realm is a far cry from the hopeful days of Republic City. Given the dangerous environment and the fact that Ellora residents live in fear, one can’t help but wonder: where was the Avatar when the world needed it most?
'Avatar: Seven Havens' Introduces the Avatar After Korra

Avatar: Seven Havens unveils Pavi and Nisha (Aishu Devan) as twin Avatars. The 9-year-old twin sisters are quite the phenomenon, as Avatar lore has no known twin Avatars. They are also an anomaly in another way: they appear to be the first Avatars since Korra. As mentioned above, Avatar: Seven Havens takes place 225 years after The Legend of Korra. Since an Avatar is born immediately after one Avatar dies, one would expect at least one or two Avatars to have lived since then.
In Avatar: Seven Havens, though, the characters believe Nisha and Pavi are the first Avatars since Korra. The first episode shows the city of Ellora celebrating Korra’s demise and fearing that the Avatar might return. When Jae (Major Curda) and Karthik (Akshaye Khanna) discover the twin Avatars, they discuss the significance of the Avatar’s return and how the world may not be ready for it. All the language and actions of the characters so far strongly suggest that Pavi and Nisha are, indeed, the first Avatars since Korra. However, Avatar: Seven Havens may have already hinted at why this is the case.
Why There Hasn't Been an Avatar Since Korra

Avatar: Seven Havens’ three-episode premiere supports several theories for why there hasn’t been an Avatar since Korra. One of the simplest explanations is that Korra lived an exceptionally long life. In the Avatar universe, most characters live an average lifespan, but there are a few exceptions. Aang lived 165 years due to being suspended in an iceberg for a century. Bumi (André Sogliuzzo) naturally lived to be 112 in Avatar: The Last Airbender, while Avatar Kyoshi lived to be 230 through a few spiritual techniques.
In Avatar: Seven Havens, viewers may notice that the characters discuss how Korra was “vanquished” or “defeated,” but they never say she died. She could have retreated to the Spirit World, remained in some suspended state, or just lived a naturally long life until Pavi and Nisha’s birth nine years before Avatar: Seven Havens. In the official trailer for Avatar: Seven Havens, we also see a clip of Korra, with gray in her hair, fighting an enemy. The architecture around her looks eerily similar to that of Ellora in the present day in Avatar: Seven Havens, further adding fuel to the theory that Korra hasn’t been gone for long in the new series.
Another possibility is that Pavi and Nisha went into suspended animation, as Aang did. Initially, viewers assume they are long-lost sisters, separated at birth. However, Avatar: Seven Havens reveals they have memories together and with their mother. Both appear to be suffering from some kind of amnesia, though they have flashbacks triggered by music or by the energy of Vaatu. For two young children to lose their memories of each other and their parents, something significant must have happened, and perhaps it involved a passage of time neither recognizes.
One last possibility is that other Avatars have existed between Korra and the twins, but no one knows about them. Avatar: Seven Havens reveals that the White Lotus are still active and have protected Nisha since they discovered her bending abilities. If the White Lotus are still active, one can’t help but wonder whether the Red Lotus are, too, especially since a Vaatu-like energy force appears in the series. Perhaps the Red Lotus have returned, successfully assassinating the Avatar incarnation until Pavi and Nisha escaped detection. Alternatively, the White Lotus may have hidden the existence of past Avatars to protect them.
