Book-to-movie adaptations have always been a big part of Hollywood, but some authors seem particularly well suited to the transition from page to screen. Colleen Hoover is a perfect example. The author became one of the biggest names in contemporary fiction after readers helped turn several of her books into massive bestsellers.

Her novels often mix romance with more serious themes like grief, abuse, and betrayal, which has made them very popular with readers. So it was only a matter of time before Hollywood took notice. Ahead of Verity’s release, if you're curious about how Hoover's other books have made the jump to the big screen, this list features every adaptation so far, most of which can be found on platforms like Netflix, HBO Max, and Disney+.

It Ends with Us

2024

It Ends with Us (2024) follows Lily Bloom (Blake Lively), a young woman who moves to Boston and opens her own flower shop. She falls for neurosurgeon Ryle Kincaid (Justin Baldoni), but their relationship changes when Ryle becomes controlling and violent. When Lily's first love comes back into her life, she has to decide what kind of future she wants for herself and her daughter. The movie works best when it focuses on Lily's complicated relationship with Ryle.

Lively gives the character a warm quality that makes it easy to understand why Lily wants to believe that their relationship can be repaired, while Baldoni plays Ryle as someone whose charm gradually gives way to a much darker side. The film isn't always subtle, but it does a good job of turning the novel into a more focused story about the cycle of abuse and Lily's decision to break it. If you enjoy emotional romantic dramas like The Notebook (2004), It Ends With Us is a must.

Regretting You

2025

Regretting You (2025) follows Morgan Grant (Allison Williams) and her teenage daughter Clara (Mckenna Grace), whose already complicated relationship is thrown into chaos after a devastating car accident kills Morgan's husband, Chris (Scott Eastwood), and her sister, Jenny (Willa Fitzgerald). Morgan soon discovers that Chris and Jenny were having an affair, while Clara is dealing with her own grief and a growing relationship with Miller Adams (Mason Thames).

The movie has all the ingredients of a classic Hoover drama, with family secrets, grief, romance, betrayal, and a good dose of emotional confrontations. Williams gives Morgan a grounded feel while Grace gets most of the movie's teenage perspective. The only problem is that the story has so many emotional turns that some of them don't have time to breathe. Still, viewers who like dramatic romances like The Fault in Our Stars (2014) will find the movie very enjoyable.

Reminders of Him (2026) follows Kenna Rowan (Maika Monroe), a young woman who returns home after spending years in prison for a tragic accident that killed her boyfriend, Scotty (Rudy Pankow). Kenna wants to reconnect with the daughter she has never been allowed to raise, but Scotty's parents aren't willing to forgive the woman they blame for their son's death. The one person willing to give Kenna a chance is Scotty's best friend, Ledger Ward (Tyriq Withers).

Reminders of Him places more focus on grief and forgiveness than a traditional romance. Monroe plays Kenna with vulnerability, while Withers brings a quiet quality to Ledger that makes their relationship feel believable. The story can be heavy-handed at times, but the central idea of whether someone deserves a second chance gives the movie more depth than a straightforward love story. The movie is perfect for fans of emotional romances like The Vow (2012).

Verity

2026

Verity follows struggling writer Lowen Ashleigh (Dakota Johnson), who gets the opportunity of a lifetime when Jeremy Crawford (Josh Hartnett) hires her to finish his wife Verity's (Anne Hathaway) bestselling book series. Verity has been left unable to continue writing after a serious accident, so Lowen moves into the Crawfords' home to work on the unfinished books. But while searching through Verity's material, Lowen finds a manuscript that contains shocking family secrets.

Unlike previous Hoover adaptations, Verity moves away from the author's usual romantic-drama formula in favor of a psychological thriller vibe. The film, which is set to hit cinemas on Oct. 2, 2026, will inevitably be streamlined for the screen, but the movie is clearly aiming to preserve the book's mystery and unreliable-narrator elements. If you like thrillers like Gone Girl (2014), this movie is a must.
