Sterling Point is one of the hottest anticipated TV series of the summer of 2026.

From acclaimed indie director Megan Park, it follows a 17-year-old named Annie Jacobson who moves to an island in Canada after inheriting it from her estranged grandfather.

Read on to find out more about the show, including what it’s about, who’s involved—both in front of and behind the camera—and when to look out for it on Prime Video

Everything We Know About Sterling Point's Plot

Naturally, at this early stage, there’s not a huge amount of story information out there. Given the show’s mysterious setup and what we know about Megan Park’s capacity to surprise (more on that later), it might be for the best to go in a little blind.

What we do know so far is that the story begins in New York, where Annie and her twin brother (newcomer Keen Ruffalo, who is the son of Mark) live with their adoptive dad (played by Duplass). When they discover that an island in the Muskoko Lakes region of Ontario (where My Old Ass was also set) has been left to them in their estranged grandfather’s will, they decide to travel North to check it out. While there, Annie begins to discover things about her family’s history. We presume she will also learn some things about herself in the process.

The Cast of Sterling Point

You might not be familiar with the main cast of Sterling Point just yet, but it looks like Park has rounded up some of the hottest up-and-coming actors around. The star of the show is Ella Rubin (as Annie Jacobson), an actress who hasn’t exactly had a major part before this, but who has appeared beside Anne Hathaway in The Idea of You, as well as playing the title character’s sister in Anora—you know, the one who gives out about there not being any milk at the start.

In the supporting parts—who will presumably make up Annie’s friendgroup—there’s Amélie Hoeferle (as Ramona), who played Vipsania Sickle in the last Hunger Games movie and the teenage social justice influencer Sarah Allen in Ari Aster’s Eddington; Jacob Whiteduck-Lavoie, who broke out in the Canadian indie movie A Colony back in 2019; and Bo Bragason, who will follow up her role as Oona in Sterling Point by playing Princess Zelda in the upcoming live-action movie

This exciting central cast is rounded out by Daniel Quinn-Toye, an actor who has so far only featured in the yet-to-be-released Bella Ramsay festival hit Sunny Dancer, but whose upcoming credits include a lead role, opposite Henry Cavill, in Voltron and a part in the star-studded cast of Tom Ford’s Cry to Heaven. Alongside them, the older roles will be populated by Jeffrey Dean Morgan (The Walking Dead), Jay Duplass (Transparent), and Missi Pyle (Galaxy Quest). Not bad at all.

Where You May Know Megan Park From

If the big names mentioned above represent something, it’s the remarkable success that Megan Park has had already as an indie filmmaker. The writer, director, and now showrunner started as an actress (she had small roles in stuff like The Newsroom and Young Sheldon) before moving into filmmaking with The Fallout—a 2021 SXSW hit that followed the aftermath of a school shooting; that starred Jenna Ortega, Maddie Ziegler, and Shailene Woodley; and that featured a score from no less than Finneas O’Connell.

That movie was released on HBO Max and received solid reviews from critics, but Park’s follow-up, My Old Ass, is what really put her on the map. Coproduced by LuckyChap and Indian Paintbrush (Wes Anderson’s regular collaborators), the coming-of-age movie followed an 18-year-old girl who magically meets her older self during her last summer at home on Lake Ontario, before heading off to university. The movie premiered at Sundance before going on to earn a slew of end-of-year nominations, including DGA, WGA, and Indie Spirit noms for Park herself. It currently holds a remarkable 90% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

How Many Episodes Will Sterling Point Have?

At the time of writing, eight episodes are set to drop in one go. As there has been no talk of a second season yet, and given how busy the younger cast members are going to be in the next few years, it’s likely that the story will be confined to that eight-episode run.

When and Where to Watch Sterling Point

Sterling Point is currently set for release on Prime Video on August 5. Intriguingly, this makes it one of the only fully original shows on the streaming giant’s upcoming slate of programs, which includes massive IP-based series like Carrie, the Legally Blonde prequel Elle, and Blade Runner 2099. Park’s show was originally greenlit by Amazon/MGM in January 2025 before going into co-production with Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap (Barbie, Wuthering Heights) alongside Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage’s Fake Empire (The O.C., Gossip Girl).

Annie along with her twin brother were raised in New York by their single dad before they find out that their estranged grandfather left them an island on a lake in his will.
