Why This Character Deserves To Be The Lead In Off Campus Season 2
Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock, you’ll know that Off Campus, a new romance show by Amazon, has been dominating the streaming world.
It amassed 36 million viewers worldwide in just twelve days, putting it right up there in the big leagues of Prime Video's biggest debuts, alongside shows like Fallout and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
It’s fair to say that Amazon always had faith in Off Campus, commissioning it for Season 2 a whole three months before the now-iconic first season dropped. But, things are set to look a little different next time round. In a similar vein to Bridgerton, Off Campus will deviate from the book timeline slightly and adapt book three instead of book two. Season 1 couple Garrett Graham and Hannah Wells will step out of the spotlight to make way for a new Briar U pairing: Allie Hayes and Dean Di Laurentis.
After the pair started having secret trysts in Season 1, some may say that it makes sense for them to be the leads for Off Campus Season 2. However, in the process, there’s one character the show is severely overlooking.
Why John Logan Should Be The Off Campus Season 2 Lead

John Logan was something of a dark horse during Season 1 of Off Campus. He’s reserved, yet headstrong. Kind, yet stubborn. As Garrett Graham’s best friend, he played a pretty pivotal role. Primarily, he was the only one to call out the ice hockey captain for his roguish ways. Although they are, objectively, both on the same team, it’s hard to ignore that little bit of tension simmering under the surface.
When sibling Jules dropped the bombshell that Logan has a crush on Garrett’s girlfriend, Hannah, that hint of resentment started to make a lot more sense. This is a storyline that, in my opinion, was under-explored in Season 1. If this storyline were to take centre stage next time, it would make for a more natural progression for the plot.
As well as pining for Hannah, there are numerous other elements of Logan’s character that could be intriguing fodder for Season 2 as well, including his fractured relationship with his addict mother, his less-than-privileged background, and his own complicated relationship with ice hockey. Logan’s dynamic with Jules is also a lot of fun to watch, so it would be great for that relationship to have more prominence.
It has been confirmed that Grace, Logan’s love interest from his own book, ‘The Mistake,’ will be joining Season 2. This suggests that, at least, the show will start laying the groundwork for Logan’s story to grow (presumably in Season 3) in forthcoming episodes. However, in my opinion, it makes no sense for Logan to play second fiddle to Allie and Dean in Season 2.
Sure, elements of Allie and Dean’s book were adapted into Season 1, but it feels like Dean, in particular, is a little underdeveloped. More time spent with the pair navigating their secret fling as a B-plot would help make their eventual relationship feel more rewarding, and it would give us a chance to get to know Dean a little better ahead of his starring role, too. Perhaps this is the result of Dean being a side character so far, but in my opinion, Logan is, overall, a much more interesting character than him.
With Season 3 not guaranteed, it would be a shame if Logan never got his starring turn, but given the success of Season 1, Off Campus is probably here for the long haul.
