The 7 Worst-Rated Sequels, Ranked

By the time the Scary Movie franchise got to Scary Movie V, there wasn't much left in the tank for the horror spoof franchise. This particular entry follows a couple bringing their newborn home, only to find paranormal occurrences beginning in their home and a demon attached to their child.

To say the film is funny would be a stretch, as even the previous two entries had some charm. In this case, Scary Movie V was the film that ended the franchise for years until the Wayans Brothers returned. But even then, it's hard to ignore the damage it did to the brand with a 4% on RT.

The Jaws franchise never needed to move past the first film, and yet it's now become a series of four movies. Unfortunately, they were part of a gradual decline in quality. Jaws: The Revenge was the final straw in the series, as it showcased a shark that was now driven by revenge on the Brody family for no reason.

There are some outlandish kills in this movie, as well as a shark that is roaring, which makes no scientific sense. But even though this film killed the franchise, it's still not the weakest, with a 2% on RT. It's a film you can skip, but if you watch it, there are a few laughs.

A sequel to an already controversial film, Return to the Blue Lagoon sees a new pair lost on a deserted island, but as they grow up together, a love also blossoms. The theme of love between two characters seen as siblings is easily the strangest part of the film, and it didn't save it from being a box-office bomb.

Return to the Blue Lagoon is a trip no one would ever think they'd have to make a second time, and with 0% on RT, it makes sense. This isn't a movie with a profound message or impactful ending, and, unfortunately, the pretty setting wasn't enough to keep the series alive.

The first Highlander (1996) wasn't a groundbreaking fantasy movie, but it was a fun watch with a unique premise. However, all the mystery and elegance of the lore were shifted with its sequel, Highlander II: The Quickening.

Suddenly, everything magical about the first film was adjusted into a typical sci-fi film that revealed too much of a story that had such a cool concept initially. Now it was a weird alien story that got no appreciation and a 0% on RT.

The Police Academy franchise is one that is famous for lasting much longer than it should have. But Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol was the start of that. The film sees some new graduates training civilian officers, while some past actors from earlier movies also make an appearance.

Hailed as being one of the least funny in the series, it sits at 0% on RT. More than that, this is also the start of a streak of sequels that would continue to maintain a lower level of quality and remain a franchise that had a great couple of films but lost steam early on.

While this wouldn't be the last entry in the ill-fated Crow franchise, The Crow: Wicked Prayer was a rough entry that didn't even get a theatrical release. The film followed yet another murdered soul awakened to get revenge for his death and the death of a loved one.

The film failed to capture what the original introduced, and being a direct-to-video release didn't help either. Though it tried, The Crow: Wicked Prayer never took off.

Baby Geniuses (1999) isn't a great movie by any stretch, but its charm and appeal to younger audiences led to a sequel, Superbabies: Baby Geniuses 2, which flipped the script on an already ridiculous premise.

Now, not only are there smart babies who can talk, but they have superpowers and are part of a secret organization designed to take down bad guys. With a 0% on Rotten Tomatoes, Superbabies: Baby Geniuses 2 is a film that effectively killed a franchise that didn't need to exist in the first place.
