8 Wild Episodes Of ‘Ghost Adventures’ That Made It To TV
Since 2008, Zak Bagans and his team have delighted viewers with their supernatural experiences in Ghost Adventures. The series sees Bagans, Nick Groff, Aaron Goodwin, Billy Tolley, and Jay Wasley travel to reportedly haunted locations across the United States and Europe, hoping to capture paranormal phenomena on camera.
It’s a unique blend of horror and education, as you get to learn the history of each location while also remaining wary of jump scares and unsettling supernatural occurrences. Over the years, a few episodes have stood out for their wild premises, sometimes capturing alleged possessions or genuinely scaring viewers. Use our guide to find the eight wildest episodes of Ghost Adventures that made it to TV.
Season 2, Episode 1 - “Preston Castle”
In this earlier episode of Ghost Adventures, the crew heads to Preston Castle in Ione, California, a former reform school that now lies in disrepair. The reform school had a history of abuse and many deaths stemming from unsolved murders, escape attempts, and epidemics. It’s a dark, eerie place to begin with, and rife with supernatural activity, including equipment malfunctions and many unexplained voices and noises.
Things only get more intense as Goodwin suffers severe scratches on his leg, and Bagans begins to feel disoriented. Bagans believes he was partially possessed by the spirit of Anna Corbin, a housekeeper who was killed at the school. It’s the first alleged possession of Bagans caught on camera, and it will send chills down your spine. Bagans is also particularly antagonistic toward the spirits in “Preston Castle,” and between his behavior and the over-the-top supernatural activity, it’s an unmissable Ghost Adventures episode.
Season 3, Episode 3 - “Poveglia Island”
Ghost Adventures Season 3, Episode 3, “Poveglia Island,” marks Bagans’ second alleged possession caught on camera. It sees the crew arrive at arguably their most terrifying location yet: Poveglia Island. Once a quarantine island where those infected with the plague were sent to die and later housing a psychiatric facility run by an abusive doctor, it’s the site of hundreds of thousands of deaths and unimaginable suffering.
The Ghost Adventures episode features jump scares galore as the crew experiences unexpected physical contact, blood-curdling screams, and items crashing to the floor. Bagans also experiences his scariest on-camera possession as he becomes increasingly erratic and aggressive toward his crew. His crew had to restrain him as he alleged he felt extreme rage. “Poveglia Island” is dark and haunting, and it will leave you absolutely terrified of the location.
Season 5, Episode 6 - “Letchworth Village”
In Ghost Adventures Season 5, Episode 6, “Letchworth Village,” the crew visits another of their darkest locations. Letchworth Village is a former residential institution, which was shuttered in 1996 after an exposé revealed the horrifying mistreatment and abuse of residents and staff. As the site where hundreds of residents, many of whom were children with disabilities, were neglected and abused, it’s not surprising that “Letchworth Village” is one of the scariest and most haunting episodes of Ghost Adventures.
The crew feels the pull of dark energies and hears continuous noise and voices, while allegedly being manipulated to separate in the large, abandoned facility. Not only is the abandoned building and phenomena terrifying, but the re-enactment of an alleged seven-foot-tall figure that stalks the facility is truly nightmare-inducing. “Letchworth Village” is one of the episodes that almost feels too scary for its PG rating.
Season 10, Episode 4 - “Island of the Dolls”
The only thing scarier than probing haunted locations is doing so in a location filled with creepy baby dolls. In Ghost Adventures Season 10, Episode 4, “Island of the Dolls,” the crew travels to Xochimilco, Mexico, visiting the infamous, creepy tourist attraction known as the Island of the Dolls. The island’s former owner, Don Julián Santana Barrera, believed the spirit of a young girl haunted the location, and so he collected and strung up baby dolls around the island to appease her.
“Island of the Dolls” stands out for being both creepy and hilarious. There isn’t an enormous amount of supernatural activity, but the mere sight of the decapitated, decaying dolls is enough to give you a chill. Meanwhile, Bagans’ fear of dolls, discomfort, and comedic antics will have you laughing, making “Island of the Dolls” one of the funnest, weirdest, and wildest rides of Ghost Adventures.
Season 12, Episode 9 - “The Domes”
In Ghost Adventures Season 12, Episode 9, “The Domes,” the crew investigates a location that doesn’t exist anymore. They head to the Casa Grande Domes in Arizona, a group of abandoned concrete domes that have attracted a lot of graffiti and vandalism. According to local legend, they became the site of satanic rituals and animal sacrifices, leading many to believe they’re haunted.
“The Domes” is easily one of the most unsettling episodes of Ghost Adventures. I’ve rarely seen the crew so genuinely scared as in “The Domes,” as they hear voices and growls, experience physical pain and shortness of breath, and see apparitions. Bagans even cuts short a few of the interviews after feeling unwell. It’s the kind of rare episode that leaves you feeling genuinely unsettled, but perhaps a little relieved that the Domes were torn down in 2023.
“Halloween Special: Route 666”
The Ghost Adventures “Halloween Special: Route 666” takes place between Seasons 13 and 14, and promises a fun time. We get to see the crew get a little creative as they create their own “Route 666,” stopping at several haunted locations across Texas, including Concordia Cemetery, the De Soto Hotel, and Goatman's Bridge. Like “The Domes,” they deal with locations that have been the center of satanic/demonic legends and rumors.
There is so much supernatural activity in the episode. Still, the wildest moment comes when Ashley Richardson begins experiencing an alleged possession at Goatman’s Bridge and grapples with it throughout the episode. The incident was so severe that she quit Ghost Adventures shortly after. Bagans and Goodwin were also physically affected, with Goodwin even fainting. Few episodes of Ghost Adventures see as many crew members so badly impacted as in “Route 666.”
Season 14, Episode 8 - “Upper Fruitland Curse”
In Ghost Adventures Season 14, Episode 8, “Upper Fruitland Curse,” the crew heads to Upper Fruitland, New Mexico, to investigate the site where a faceless ghost boy haunts a family. The episode features some of the wildest and most unexplainable evidence captured on camera in Ghost Adventures. Throughout the episode, the crew experiences odd phenomena, including voices, equipment malfunctions, loud banging noises, and large apparitions.
It’s also a rare episode where viewers caught something the episode doesn’t mention. In one scene, shortly after the crew is startled by banging on the trailer, viewers spotted an unexplained black mass on the porch. The crew captures another large mass on the thermal camera, as well as a chair moving on its own. “Upper Fruitland Curse” delivers genuine chills and is among the top episodes for convincing evidence.
Season 21, Episode 5 - “Goodwin Home Invasion”
Ghost Adventures Season 20, Episode 5, “Goodwin Home Invasion,” is a fun episode that hits a little closer to home for the crew. In the episode, Goodwin’s father calls the team to help investigate his Las Vegas home after experiencing terrifying supernatural phenomena. Goodwin himself once experienced similar phenomena at the home, making it a particularly important case for him.
In the home, the crew and Goodwin’s father, Don, are heavily affected by a dark presence to the point that Bagans is once physically incapacitated, and Don flees the house. What makes it so terrifying is that there’s no real precedent or history to explain the haunting. The terrifying nature of the dark presence and apparitions, along with the idea that Goodwin brought something back home with him from his investigations, makes “Goodwin Home Invasion” particularly chilling.
