'Pinocchio Unstrung's Viral Ending Changes Everything: The Disturbing Final Scene, Explained

Jagged Edge Productions' Pinocchio: Unstrung (2026) is the latest entry in the Twisted Child Universe and also one of the most technologically advanced. Adapting the classic story with a more evil twist, Pinocchio goes from a puppet trying to be a boy to a murderous puppet who will stop at nothing to be real.

Everything about the movie makes you think that Pinocchio will be the main villain, but that couldn't be farther from the truth. Instead, we are treated to a surprising ending that no one could've fully predicted and a fate for Pinocchio and his creator that could lead to more stories.

Geppetto Was Far More Evil Than Pinocchio

The reason that Pinocchio took so many lives in Pinocchio: Unstrung was to protect his friend, James, and also to be a real boy. Listening to his evil moral compass, Cricket, Pinocchio killed and took parts of his victims to be a real boy.

It made sense to see Pinocchio as the villain, but we quickly learn the real monster was Geppetto. Using a magical tree, Geppetto turned living people into puppets by feeding them to the tree. When they came back to life, he would see if they would act normally. If not, he would kill them again.

Pinocchio was meant to be the resurrected friend of James and Geppetto, but the young puppet became a greater danger to his grandson. Geppetto then killed one of James' friends and revealed his true colors as a monster simply chasing immortality at any cost. Armed with a shotgun, he chased down his grandson, covered in the blood of his friend and ready to kill Pinocchio.

Pinocchio Becomes The Hero, But His Darkness Isn't Gone Forever

With Geppetto revealed as the real villain, it left Pinocchio open to find his place in his story not as a monstrous killer but as someone who would protect his friends at any cost. On the flip side, Geppetto might not have ever killed his grandson, but he would clearly harm him in other ways, including taking his other friends from him.

Pinocchio, after rejecting the evil of Cricket and choosing family over selfishness, quickly took to becoming James' protector and proved this by using a shotgun to free one of the puppet creatures that Geppetto kept locked away. After doing that, Geppetto was quickly impaled and left for dead as his mansion burnt down.

As James and his friends watched the mansion burn with Pinocchio, they agreed to live a new and better life with the puppet and ensure he always had friends. Looking at the fire, Pinocchio said that he didn't want to kill anymore, but his nose grew, hinting that we may not see the last of a violent Pinocchio. 

That said, the movie also marks a solid stopping point for Pinocchio should the Twisted Childhood Universe want to move to another murderous puppet. The best part is the pieces are slowly being put in place.

Pinocchio And Geppetto Have A Grim Future Ahead Of Them

With the Twisted Childhood Universe, we know that the past five films have all been leading to a crossover that will include Winnie-the-Pooh, Bambi, Peter Pan, and potentially Pinocchio. But the ending of Pinocchio: Unstrung could have a different puppet take over the series.

With Geppetto dying, Cricket took his body and connected him ot the tree. We haven't seen the result, but we do know that he will get his wish of being immortal, but will become a much more evil version of Pinocchio and an even scarier puppet.

This might leave Pinocchio as a hero by the time the crossover comes because someone will have to face his creator, and he's the only one with the knowledge on how to stop the inventor. As of now, we don't know what else could come of this crossover, but Pinocchio: Unstrung gave us a lot of lore, from Pinocchio's Wood Mother to the Cricket and the tree itself. 

Pinocchio is attached to immense supernatural power we don't fully understand, and now Geppetto has a fraction of that. Pinocchio: Unstrung has set up more for the Twisted Childhood Universe than most movies, but it couldn't have been possible without its bloody and exciting conclusion.
