The first half of 2023 saw some fantastic new films brought into the mix, including Greta Gerwig’s box-office breaking Barbie, Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, the upbeat superhero adventure Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the animated extravaganza Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, the Jennifer Lawrence-starring comedy No Hard Feelings, and the action-packed John Wick: Chapter 4 — just to name a few. But while January to August was full of great content, the next part of 2023 contains some of the most anticipated movies of the year, spanning a range of genres and filmmaking styles. A number of big-name directors are releasing their highly-anticipated movies, including Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon, Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two, David Fincher’s The Killer, Ridley Scott’s Napoleon, Kenneth Branaugh’s A Haunting in Venice, and Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things

Fear not, superhero fans, because there are four more upcoming movies on the horizon, namely Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, Blue Beetle, The Marvels, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Meanwhile, fantasy fans will finally get their golden ticket to see Wonka starring Timothée Chalamet, and the Hunger Games prequel The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes will explore the world of a young President Snow. In the horror-thriller genre, The Last Voyage of the Demeter will tell a new Dracula tale, while another ocean-based thriller brings a different kind of threat in Meg 2: The Trench.

The second half of the year might not be as action-heavy as the first, but fans of action star Denzel Washington can look forward to the long-awaited third installment in The Equalizer series, The Equalizer 3. Meanwhile, the highly anticipated final film from Japanese animation legend Hayao Miyazaki, The Boy and the Heron, will finally make its debut in North America, and fans of animation can also look forward to seeing Netflix’s The Monkey King, which brings a Chinese 16th century novel to life. And finally, anyone in the mood for some belly laughs can catch Strays, starring Will Ferrell, Isla Fisher, Jamie Foxx, and others as dogs out for revenge, or Taika Waititi’s Next Goal Wins. Check out a full list of all of the upcoming movies in 2023 below, ordered by release date.
