Over three years after Apple TV+’s widely popular Ted Lasso (2020) appeared to wind down, it is returning to the small screen for Season 4. Initially, Jason Sudeikis and his Ted Lasso co-creators intended to stick to their three-season plan for the series. Hence, the show’s Season 3 finale felt like a definitive end, seeing Ted Lasso (Sudeikis) return home to America and bringing most of the lead character’s arcs to a satisfactory conclusion.

However, interest in Ted Lasso has not waned, even after a conclusion most fans felt was perfect. Years after its “ending,” the show continued to pull in huge viewership numbers, consistently appearing in the top 10 on Apple TV+’s global streaming charts alongside new content. Between its long-lived popularity and enduring message of radical optimism, there’s no denying there’s something special about Ted Lasso

It was really only a matter of time before Suideikis and Apple TV+ confirmed Ted Lasso Season 4. The new season will be here sooner than you may have expected, now that Apple TV+ has debuted the official trailer for Season 4. Here’s what you need to know.

Meet The New And Returning Cast For ‘Ted Lasso’ Season 4

The Ted Lasso cast may look a little different this time around. Fortunately, the majority of the leads have signed on to return. As the trailer reveals, Sudeikis will, of course, return as the titular coach. Lasso will have his assistant coach by his side once more, with Brendan Hunt returning as Coach Beard. The lead AFC Richmond figures will be back, including owner Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddington), Communications Director Leslie Higgins (Jeremy Swift), and manager Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein). Rebecca’s best friend and Roy’s ex-girlfriend, Keeley Jones (Juno Temple), will also be back. The beloved Crown & Anchor pub owner, Mae Green (Annette Badland), is also returning.

In addition to these lead characters, Ted Lasso Season 4 will welcome some new cast members. Joining the cast are Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Faye Marsay, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey, and Abbie Hern. While their character names aren’t confirmed, the trailer suggests that Reynolds, best known for her role in Sex Education (2019), will join Beard and Lasso as an assistant coach. Mack, Marsay, Hayes, Sharkey, and Hern will likely portray players on the women’s soccer team coached by Lasso. Rounding out the new cast is Five Nights at Freddy’s (2023) Grant Feely, who will take over from Gus Turner as Ted’s son, Henry Lasso.

Unfortunately, many members of the AFC Richmond soccer club have not been confirmed for the series. Team members Jamie Tartt (Phil Dunster), Sam Obisanya (Toheeb Jimoh), Dani Rojas (Cristo Fernández), Colin Hughes (Billy Harris), and Isaac McAdoo (Kola Bokinni) remain unconfirmed. Other familiar faces, such as journalist Trent Crimm (James Lance) and coach Nathan Shelley (Nick Mohammad), also remain unconfirmed. Still, this doesn’t rule them out from possible surprise guest appearances in Season 4.

What Is ‘Ted Lasso’ Season 4 About?

In the trailer’s description, Apple TV+ summarizes Ted Lasso Season 4’s plot, “In Season four, Ted returns to Richmond, taking on his biggest challenge yet: coaching a second division women’s football team. Throughout the course of the season, Ted and the team learn to leap before they look, taking chances they never thought they would.” Lasso and Beard’s new coaching adventure is the only main plot point confirmed for Season 4.

However, the trailer teases a few subplots for Ted Lasso’s cast, including a tense reunion between Roy and Keeley. Although the pair ended on relatively good terms in Season 3, it seems they may have to confront their unresolved feelings toward each other in Season 4. They appear twice in the trailer and are together each time, raising hopes for a possible rekindling of their relationship. We also get a glimpse of Rebecca with her love interest, Matthijs (Matteo van der Grijn), suggesting she may yet get her happily ever after.

Meanwhile, we can expect to get to know the women’s team members. One of the best aspects of Ted Lasso’s first three seasons was watching the men’s soccer players grow, develop, and better themselves over time, making us hopeful that Season 4 will continue the tradition and delve into the women’s soccer players.

‘Ted Lasso’ Season 4 Release Date

Alongside the official trailer, Apple TV+ confirmed Ted Lasso Season 4 will arrive on August 5th for streaming. After its summer debut, episodes will debut weekly through October 7.
