5 Unanswered ’Buddy’ Questions That Fans Need Answered ASAP

With the proliferation of the internet, certain horror franchises have been able to blossom mostly thanks to how easy it is for fans to communicate with each other. If a movie has an ambiguous ending, all it takes is one quick search, and suddenly, you’ll be able to fill in the gaps for yourself. That, and even if a film intentionally leaves out key information to keep audiences in the dark, all it takes is a few internet sleuths to start piecing together theories and hypotheses to explain the unexplainable. It happened when Five Nights at Freddy’s (2023) came out, and now, it’s happening with Buddy (2026).

Buddy is a demented little horror film about a giant orange unicorn, not dissimilar from Barney the Dinosaur, who kidnaps kids and forces them to be on his show, “It’s Buddy.” For the most part, Buddy is a pretty straightforward film, mostly following the kids as they try to escape from him and how they manage to fight him and the control he has over this world of television. But then, as it is typical of any Casper Kelly project, the ending comes around and raises a plethora of questions with no clear conclusions. Kelly opted to keep the answers tantalizingly out of reach, letting audiences piece together the truth for themselves, or leave the door open for a potential sequel. These are the questions that we still don’t have any answers to, but need to know.

Who Was The Other Unicorn At The Bottom Of The Well?

The moment Freddy jumps into the Worry Well to leave the TV World, she’s immediately greeted with a yellow unicorn, but who is this alternative version of Buddy?

While this yellow unicorn never talks, thanks to a mural we see while Freddy is running from Buddy, we learn that Buddy has two other siblings, a yellow unicorn named Benny and a blue one named Bobby. Benny has been toiling away at the bottom of the well, provisioning Buddy and the kids with items. He also appears to have been crafting characters to become a part of the show, thanks to the slew of felt body parts strewn around his workshop.

He’s also deathly afraid of Buddy, cowering in a corner when Buddy visits the well, which leads to a few very interesting implications. Perhaps Benny wasn’t evil like Buddy is, and he genuinely wanted to care for the children that appear on the show. Maybe Buddy was an aberration and is forcing Benny to serve him. After all, Buddy can seemingly control how to heal others like him, so given Benny’s disheveled appearance, maybe Buddy was abusing his sibling to make his show perfect.

What About the Blue Unicorn, Bobby?

One of the biggest unanswered questions that the film leaves behind, especially now that we know who Benny is, is the fate of the final unicorn, Bobby. Buddy was killed by Freddy, Benny was left sobbing in a corner, but Bobby is never shown during the climax. So where is he?

Like Benny, there is a chance that Bobby isn’t as evil as Buddy was. Buddy seems intent on keeping kids on his show to feed off their love like some eldritch horror, but Benny displayed no signs of aggression towards Freddy. In fact, he tried to help her, offering to give her a new mouth for Mr. Mailbox before Buddy appeared. So how does Bobby factor into that? Some theories online suggest that all three unicorns used to share the spotlight together and Buddy, seeking to have all the love for himself, murdered Bobby and enslaved Benny so he could have all the love for himself. That, or Bobby has a separate show that we just didn't see, and he's still somewhere in the TV World. Regardless, without a body or definitive evidence proving that Bobby is dead, assume that he could appear at any moment in a hypothetical sequel.

How Was Buddy Able To Warp Reality?

While most of these questions Buddy poses all crop up towards the end of the film’s 96-minute runtime, one big question was actually asked towards the beginning of the film, namely how Buddy can manipulate reality.

When Buddy abducts a person, it’s as if they’re completely written out of reality. The memories of the child and their families are altered, and the physical space is warped and changed. When Buddy is actively taking Grace, not only does her husband Ben seem oblivious to the active abduction happening right before his eyes, but their bedroom is immediately altered as if Grace never existed. How Buddy is able to do this is never explained, nor how the credits reset life in the TV World. There are some concrete rules, though, that everyone, including Buddy, is forced to follow, like how the credits are summoned and how Buddy, like other TV World inhabitants like Strappy and Mr. Mailbox, can’t exist in the real world. These do put a limit on Buddy’s power, but the way Buddy can rewrite reality itself is never explained.

Were There Multiple Shows Being Filmed In The School?

Benny’s existence, the size of the TV World beyond the Worry Well, and how numerous kids are shown to be under Buddy’s thrall despite only four kids ever being present on “It’s Buddy” does beg the question if multiple shows were being filmed in Buddy’s pocket dimension.

While Freddy is running from Buddy, she notices plenty of strange things while peeking into the doors of the school that exist past Benny’s workshop. Many of them feature strange devices, rows of photographs of previous nurses, and several TVs to draw children from. We know that there are three unicorns in this TV World, but how the children factor in, and the unknown status of Bobby, raises the question of what these children are being used for. Surely an operation of this scale, enough to encompass an entire school, is producing other shows besides “It’s Buddy.” Is this a Backrooms (2026) situation where a company is using the space for tests and characters like Buddy are mere byproducts? Something larger is definitely going on in this world, and Freddy only got a mere taste of it.

Is Buddy In Charge?

One interesting point that Buddy never really addresses is whether Buddy is actually in charge of everything going on in his show and the TV World. 

It’s undeniable that Buddy is a known presence in the TV World. Everyone knows who he is and some, like Betty Bunny, do what they can to keep Buddy happy, while others, like Willie, are afraid of what he’s capable of. But is Buddy running the show? It’s implied that, due to his size, Buddy has never entered the school, but if that’s true, then how is he able to take children? We see the stacks of TV in the school’s auditorium that are reaching through their sets to Buddy, so is he directly choosing who joins the cast or not? Buddy also doesn’t seem to be technologically savvy, thanks to Benny building gadgets at the bottom of the well, so who is creating the technology used in the TV World to draw people in, or conducting those experiments in the rooms? Chances are high that Buddy’s not the one pulling the strings here and someone is using him and the TV World for some unknown purpose.
