'Avengers: Doomsday's Two Dooms Theory Has A Simple Explanation 'Loki' Fans Will Hate

Avengers: Doomsday (2026) offers more than a chance for the Marvel Cinematic Universe to rebuild a good face with the wavering groups of the massive fanbase. But, like all exciting MCU films, it's also another chance to hypothesize and theorize ahead of its December 18th release date.

The prevailing theory ever since Avengers: Doomsday's D23 trailer dropped has been that Robert Downey Jr. isn't the only Doctor Doom in the film. Some shots show different looks of the villain, and it's gotten many wondering if RDJ is simply a misdirect for the "real" Doom. However, the real reason could be totally different and sadder.

Key 'Avengers: Doomsday' Scenes Fuel the Two Dooms Theory

The original trailer for Avengers: Doomsday kept things linear in terms of how it presented Doctor Doom to audiences. His eyes were dark, and the focus remained on them considering the rest of him was covered in armor. However, the D23 trailer revealed more interesting details. For starters, we now know there are two Doom suits, with one looking more regal and the other more like his classic armor, as if he's a knight in a cloak. Doom also had different eye colors, like green and a color that seemed like blue.

Because of this, ideas like Cillian Murphy being the second Doom have popped up to show that RDJ's casting was more of a stunt than a chance to explore him as another character. But I feel that because of the green magic he is using, that's where the truth lies. With his eyes greenish-blue or outright green, it could mean that he had to take Loki's power, killing him in the process.

Doctor Doom Took Loki's Multiverse Powers

Doctor Doom has always been a powerful magic user in Marvel Comics, and this is something that was never properly shown on the big screen. His use of magic and science, and the alchemy he made with those, has defined him as a unique threat. While it's likely he had that in the MCU already, his powers were amplified.

Loki (2021-2023) showed the God of Mischief using his natural abilities to make illusions and the power of channeling the temporal radiation around him into a tool to save the Multiverse and revive the timelines in a beautiful green hue. He created a Multiverse tree where the green strands were the roots and the timelines the branches. But the prevailing color around him as the God of Stories was green.

With both of those ideas in mind and Doom's ultimate goal of writing Multiversal wrongs, he would need power to accomplish that. By killing Loki and taking his power, he could then use illusion magic to revive the Sentinels we see him use in the Avengers: Doomsday trailer. As he gains enough power to stop Stormbreaker and more, he could then rewrite reality. The blue we see in his eyes is most likely green, and therefore, this was always the same Doom, just with more power.

Doctor Doom Taking Loki's Power Only Serves to Hurt His Character

For Doom to do what he does in the film, he would need more than his scientific and magical knowledge. He would need power at the ready, and Loki is the only one who can grant him that. However, by pushing Loki to the side, it serves a huge disservice to the character after all he endured.

Loki in Avengers: Infinity War (2018) was killed in the opening minutes to push Thor to seek revenge. His variant had to give up everything to save the Multiverse, never seeing his friends again. So, to see him once again become nothing more than fodder for the villain is cruel. Loki may always lose, but his series proved that this particular variant was different.

Nevertheless, Doom will get incredible power, and at the levels he needs, Loki is the most logical choice for him to set his sights on. But as his strength grows and his eyes glow green, it also becomes clear that there were never two Dooms. As the Ruler of Latveria would likely say himself, there is only one true Doom, and the odds are high that he was always Robert Downey Jr
