What Is Marvel's Infinity Vision And How Will It Change 'Avengers: Endgame'?

There seems to be some sort of new phenomenon in theaters every single day that changes the movie-viewing experience. IMAX, 75mm, Dolby, Prime, Laser, you name it. For the most part, we all probably assumed that because Dune: Part III (2026) and Avengers: Doomsday (2026) are releasing on the same day, IMAX screens would have had to be split to give both movies the chance to shine on the biggest screen possible. But then news dropped that Avengers: Doomsday wouldn't get the IMAX treatment, and at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, Walt Disney Studios unveiled its latest plan to change the game completely.

Ahead of the latest Avengers film, the company will be releasing its films in Infinity Vision, a completely new way of watching movies in various theaters. Ahead of the new movie release, we'll also be getting a re-release of Avengers: Endgame (2019) in September 2026.

Could Infinity Vision Be The New IMAX?

According to the Walt Disney Studios, Infinity Vision is "a new certification for premium large format (PLF) theaters. Done in collaboration with global theatrical exhibition partners, Infinity Vision will signify to audiences which auditoriums offer the biggest, brightest, and most immersive cinematic experiences." The viewing experience will ultimately be presented in over 75 domestic and 300 global exhibitors, making it mostly accessible for those who live in big cities and a few smaller ones.

However, there's a good chance it's not going to be the next IMAX, at least not for a while. Since big blockbuster movies began releasing in IMAX, nothing has thus far topped it, outside of 70mm IMAX, making it an even more rare experience for the most enthusiastic cinephiles. (You have to go out of your way for them if you aren't in a big city, and chances are, the general audience isn't doing this the way bigger fans are.) In addition, there's also regular 70mm, which is now growing more and more popular since Oppenheimer (2023) and, currently, Project Hail Mary (2026).

There's also the question of whether Infinity Vision will only be available to Marvel, Disney, and Pixar properties, which then means that IMAX could still reign as the largest scale of the moviegoing experience.

Infinity Vision Shouldn't Change 'Avengers: Endgame' Too Much

Ahead of the Avengers: Doomsday release, Marvel Studios will re-release Avengers: Endgame in theaters again, specifically with Infinity Vision screenings. While die-hard fans have likely watched and rewatched the movie countless times since the initial release, the Infinity Vision theatrical experience shouldn't change the movie too much, unless the extra footage is substantially different.

More than anything, Avengers: Endgame is already one of the brightest and biggest movies, no matter what kind of theater you watch it in, so it's important to take note of the fact that, compared to other films, it already stands out in this regard. This detail also pertains to Marvel releases that have come afterward, with way too much CGI and questionable scenes that were either too dark or unnaturally vivid without finding the right balance. Fans are often complaining about how movies are getting darker and more muted as opposed to getting brighter and more saturated, but the special effects of Avengers: Endgame were never part of this conversation. It isn't just good; it's exceptional.

However, as far as the deleted scenes and other surprises that were teased at CinemaCon, these are details that can change Avengers: Endgame as we know it. For starters, how and why is Chris Evans' Captain America back when the final few moments of the film see him as an older man who's presumably lived a long, happy life? As a huge fan of the character since the beginning and Team Cap all the way through, I, for one, have absolutely no hope for this narrative.

Steve Rogers' return is one of the decisions in Avengers: Doomsday that's so questionable that if there isn't something concrete, worthwhile, and genuinely understandable for his arc in the re-release of Endgame, then what are we doing exactly, and why are we bringing him back? Ultimately, only time will tell how Infinity Vision changes the moviegoing experience for the better, and thankfully, we don't have to wait too long to find out.

After the devastating events of Avengers: Infinity War, the universe is in ruins due to the efforts of the Mad Titan, Thanos. With the help of remaining allies, the Avengers must assemble once more in order to undo Thanos' actions and restore order to the universe once and for all, no matter what consequences may be in store.
Beloved heroes from three distinct universes are set on a deadly collision course and face an existential threat unlike anything they've ever encountered.
