’WandaVision’ Ending, Explained (And How It Connects To ‘VisionQuest’)
VisionQuest (2026) concludes a trilogy that began with WandaVision (2021) and explores one of the strangest examinations of family in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, with WandaVision happening so many years ago, it's easy to forget that so much happened in the unique series.
We are introduced to a world where, following a breakdown over Vision's death, Wanda Maximoff changes an entire town into the TV shows she watched as a child, manifesting Vision and even two children. But with Agatha Harkness trying to steal her power and S.W.O.R.D. trying to stop her at every turn, it leads to an explosive end that leads directly into VisionQuest.
Wanda Becomes the Scarlet Witch and Defeats Agatha Harkness
Before the epic finale, Agatha Harkness revealed that she was behind the scenes, terrorizing Wanda's visions in a bid to steal her power, knowing she's destined to become the Scarlet Witch. Meanwhile, S.W.O.R.D. has unleashed their greatest weapon in a new White Vision that is tasked with killing Wanda. Eventually, Wanda, Vision, and their sons, Billy and Tommy, use their power to stop Agatha, White Vision, and S.W.O.R.D. agents, with the help of a newly powered Monica Rambeau.
Monica helps the kids take out S.W.O.R.D. agents alongside Darcy Lewis, and Vision uses logic and the Ship of Theseus to free White Vision from S.W.O.R.D. control, and he proceeds to fly off. Wanda then uses Agatha's rune spells against her and creates a space in the Hex that renders Agatha's powers useless.
As Agatha realizes this, nearly taking all of Wanda's powers just before the runes took effect, Wanda embraces her role as the Scarlet Witch and takes back her power as well as some Agatha's. Reborn in a comic-accurate suit, she trapped Agatha in the role of the nosy neighbor and reunited with her family while S.W.O.R.D. retreated.
Wanda Ends Her Hex and Her Happy Life to Save Others
After the threats were eliminated, the Vision that Wanda created reminds her that it's time to end everything she created and to finally set things right. As she put her family to bed and thanked her children for letting them be their mom, she began to close the Hex.
Waiting for Vision in the living room, they exchange a tearful goodbye with the promise that if they found each other once, they will find each other again. As Vision disintegrates, we see a tear fall from his eye, and Wanda is left alone again at the foundation of a house that was supposed to be made for them.
Wanda Maximoff is still the Scarlet Witch, and the people in the town of Westview who were trapped and mentally tortured in her Hex don't trust her. Nevertheless, this didn't stop Monica from stating the now-infamous line, “They'll never know what you sacrificed for them." Wanda then flies off, with her hood up, to a cabin in the woods.
In the post-credits scene, we see Wanda at her cabin drinking tea and doing some housework while astral projecting and reading from the same Darkhold Agatha Harkness used. In her education of the forbidden book, she also hears her children calling for her and closes the book. Unfortunately, we never really know what this means, as her return in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022) makes her a villain looking for a world with her children, proving they were never in danger in the first place.
How Does ‘WandaVision’ Connect to ‘VisionQuest’?
VisionQuest finally explains what happened after the White Vision flew off at the end of WandaVision, but it is also more connected to the original series than Agatha All Along (2024). For starters, the show is an aesthetic complement to WandaVision, as that show was far more organic in style and leaned into the magic, while VisionQuest feels more artificial, as it's a series about robots and AI.
We also see the return of Tommy Maximoff, whose spirit was in limbo when Wanda closed her Hex, and it entered a body just as the soul of that vessel had gone to the afterlife. Now, Tommy is a teenager in a body and life he doesn't know, looking for Vision.
Being that this closes the trilogy, there's also hope that we can get confirmation on whether Wanda is truly dead and if Vision will ever regain the memories he had from his other body. VisionQuest will finally bridge many gaps we hadn't even noticed from WandaVision, and because of that, will likely surprise audiences as we see what started with one show finally reach a solid conclusion.
