Add us on

The first two episodes of VisionQuest (2026) have finally given us a glimpse into what Vision has been up to since he escaped Westview in WandaVision (2021). But a life of hiding and trying to be human has been difficult for him as he tries to understand who he was.

Of course, while also contending with Ultron and a son he didn't think could ever exist, the series also gave us some incredible Easter eggs to the comics and past Marvel Cinematic Universe movies. While there are some obvious and explained nods, here are the deep cuts spotted in VisionQuest's first two episodes.

Mentions of Wanda Maximoff and Vision's Past

Wanda as Scarlet Witch in Wandavision

WandaVision marked the beginning of the end for the Vision and Scarlet Witch as we knew them. While Vision was already dead, the Hex construct of him that Wanda made reminded us of how great he was. VisionQuest reminded us of that again as the new Vision watched videos of his past and worked at the pub he and Wanda used to frequent in Edinburgh.

The series also references Wanda's fate in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022) when Mount Wundagore was dropped on her. As well as how Vision's line, "What is grief if not love persevering?" stays in her head. Even Vision's Mindspace has nods to his past, like Vibranium Foil in his kitchen.

Madripoor and Saint Mabyn's Get Mentions

Madripoor in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier

New and lesser-known characters and places are finally getting their due in VisionQuest, with Madripoor being brought up early on as a location frequented by Paladin. Madripoor is a lawless city in Southeast Asia that was first introduced in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021). We don't know exactly what will happen in VisionQuest, but it will be a primary location.

Saint Mabyn's is a psychiatric hospital in London in Marvel Comics where characters like Iron Fist were treated for a time. In VisionQuest, the hospital is where Tommy Shepherd was originally meant to be sent and was later held against his will by Paladin. It was also where the villain tried to spring a trap on him that ultimately failed.

Two New Young Avengers Appear

Tommy in VisionQuest (2026)

Tommy Shepherd makes his debut in VisionQuest as a grifter in London who tricks people into giving him money. He also has incredible speed that allows him to generate energy blasts and move at superspeed. While he eventually becomes the hero Speed, we have yet to see how this will unfold in the MCU.

Lisa Molinari appears as a pickpocket and associate of Tommy, who also appeared in the comics as a character named Coat of Arms. Her abilities came from a coat that added four extra arms with weapons that she used in battle. As of now, we don't know if she will obtain the same coat in VisionQuest, but she's been a close friend of Tommy for some time, so anything is possible.

No Avengers Are Looking For Vision

Close-up of Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk

Vision was a key part of The Avengers and the final battles of The Infinity Saga; to add to this, Vision is constantly reminded of this when he watches old movies of his past life. However, even though he made friends and was considered rebuilt and missing, no one has been looking for him.

When asked if he could reach out to Clint Barton or Bruce Banner, Vision says he can't because no one has even started looking for him in the first place. It's a sad realization, as he spent so much time with the team, and it reminds us how some characters weren't as close as others.

Past A.I. From Other Movies Appear

AI in VisionQuest

One of the best parts of VisionQuest has been the return of various A.I. from other projects. For example, Dum-E & U from Iron Man (2008) appear as silent custodians and maintenance A.I. Then F.R.I.D.A.Y. from Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), J.A.R.V.I.S. from Iron Man, E.D.I.T.H. from Spider-Man: Far From Home (2018), and, of course, Ultron all return.

While J.A.R.V.I.S. sacrifices himself in VisionQuest Episode 2, it's fantastic to see these characters return in some capacity while also showing Vision's compassion by bringing back personalities that had been largely abandoned. That said, seeing Ultron return has been the best highlight, as we get to see him really come into his own.

The Original Human Torch Gets a Tease

Human Torch in VisionQuest

In the MCU and the comics, the first synthezoid android introduced is the original Human Torch, Jim Hammond. When exposed to oxygen, flames engulf his body, and he uses that power to save lives in World War II. But in VisionQuest, the Human Torch is instead a cautionary tale of what happens when AI loses control.

We have only seen a painting of him in the show so far, but it's possible he could appear in a big way, perhaps as a main antagonist, later on. The fact that a character who was only teased in Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) is a surprise enough, but now it's a matter of time before we see what will become of him.
