After captivating fans and newcomers to the franchise in The Mandalorian (2019), Grogu and Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) are making their big screen debut in The Mandalorian and Grogu (2026). While fans are excited for another adventure featuring the Mandalorian bounty hunter and his foundling, Grogu, the film’s plot has remained quite elusive. The Mandalorian Season 3 ended with Djarin officially adopting Grogu and the pair taking on a quieter lifestyle outside Nevarro.

Based on The Mandalorian and Grogu trailer, though, the pair get pulled back into action, seemingly aiding the Republic and getting involved with the Hutts. As Djarin and Grogu’s bond grows, it’s also possible the film will see Grogu become more versed in the ways of the Mandalorians. Use our guide for a refresher on what it means to be a Mandalorian and how Grogu might officially join them.

What Is The Mandalorian Creed?

The Mandalorian creed is a rite of passage for Mandalorian children and foundlings as they come of age. It’s an oath that they recite, vowing to walk in the ways of the Mandalorian. The two things the creed emphasizes most are the Mandalorian perspective on foundlings and helmets. Mandalorians who adhere to the creed are very serious about taking in and caring for foundlings until they are reunited with their families or come of age. Taking in a foundling is one of the highest honors a subscriber of the creed can take on.

Those who follow the creed also swear never to remove their helmets. In The Mandalorian Season 3, Episode 1, “The Apostate,” a young foundling, Ragnar (Wesley Kimmel), undergoes the initiation ceremony. He recites part of the creed, stating, “I swear on my name and the names of the ancestors, that I shall walk the Way of the Mandalore and that the words of the Creed will be forever forged in my heart. This is the Way.” During the ceremony, the Armorer (Emily Swallow) places a helmet on his head, which, according to the creed, he must never remove.

The creed also declares that those who break the oath by removing their helmet may only be redeemed by bathing in the Living Waters beneath the Mandalore Mines, which is how Djarin redeems himself in The Mandalorian Season 3. As Season 3 also shows, the creed stipulates that whoever wins the Darksaber in battle will rule over all of Mandalore.

Do All Mandalorians Adhere To The Creed?

The Mandalorian Season 3 drops a bombshell by revealing that Djarin was, essentially, raised in a cult. While he grew up believing the creed set strict rules for all Mandalorians, he later learned that he belonged to an extreme sect known as the Children of the Watch, who followed it. Other Mandalorians don’t have such stringent rules about the helmets and don’t adhere to “the Way.”

Djarin was taken aback by the revelation that the way he lived wasn’t how every Mandalorian lived. However, he undergoes the lengthy process of redemption, and the Children of the Watch welcome him back into their midst. Still, given how protective he is of Grogu, it remains to be seen if he’d want his foundling to undergo the creed.

Will Grogu Ever Take The Mandalorian Creed?

In The Book of Boba Fett (2021), Grogu decides to cease his Jedi training and reunite with Djarin. As a result, most expect he will grow up to become a Force-sensitive Mandalorian. However, if he wants to become an official Child of the Watch, he’ll have to undergo the initiation ceremony and adhere to the creed. The main obstacle to his taking the creed is the fact that he can’t talk, as the ceremony required Ragnar to recite the creed.

Grogu is the same species as Yoda (Frank Oz), who speaks in the Star Wars movies. So, at some point, Grogu should begin speaking. However, former Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy claims Grogu “never says a word” in The Mandalorian and Grogu (via SyFy). Still, we haven’t given up hope of one day seeing Grogu recite the creed and take his official place among the Mandalorians.

After the fall of the Galactic Empire, lawlessness has spread throughout the galaxy. A lone gunfighter makes his way through the outer reaches, earning his keep as a bounty hunter.
