10 Movies to Watch if You Love Smile 2 and Where to Stream Them
Smile became a breakout hit back in 2022. The film earned more than $217 million at the box office and was one of the scariest movies of the year. First up, all Smile fans need to check out It Follows. In Smile, an unseen entity follows its victims for days, appearing as eerie, smiling people, before it kills them. The entity then passes on from person to another after their death. The plot of It Follows is incredibly similar. In the movie, the evil spirit is passed on through sex, whereas in Smile it seems to prey on people with trauma. But this STD-spread haunting movie preys on people’s fear of not just evil, but sexual health as well, making it a disturbingly hard-hitting horror movie.
Another closely related film is The Ring. In Smile, it’s revealed that nobody survives the haunting after one week, as the entity’s abuse gets stronger and stronger. Anyone who has ever seen The Ring will immediately recognize the similarity since the line “seven days” became infamous when Rachel (Naomi Watts) gets a phone call after watching the cursed video tape. It’s the original “followed by a cursed demon” horror movie and to this day it still holds up. The Ring received two sequels – The Ring Two and Rings.
Another similar film is The Grudge. While the movie doesn’t have the countdown aspect of the other two, it still centers around a curse that eventually kills its victims, remaining there until someone finds the body. Then, the curse attaches itself to its new victim, starting the process over again. Starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, the movie was a massive hit and, like The Ring, it has spawned two theatrically-released sequels – The Grudge 2 and The Grudge (and one straight-to-video sequel).
