The Other Unicorns In 'Buddy', Explained
The mystery surrounding the world and lore built by Buddy (2026) just keeps expanding because there's no way that a world like this, with layers of infrastructure, came out of nowhere. This was planned. And thanks to that mural that Freddy passes by in the bottom layer of this TV dimension, we know that Buddy isn't the only unicorn around. In fact, there are two other unicorns besides Buddy.
But what happened to the other unicorns in Buddy? I'll be explaining what we know so far about the other unicorns, Bobby and Benny, individually. That explanation will include who these other unicorns are and what they look like. But I also want to talk about what happened to Benny and the theory about Bobby in relation to Buddy. Because if you think what we've seen so far is dark, how we got here has to be infinitely worse.
Who Are the Other Unicorns in 'Buddy'?
When it comes to the horror film Buddy, of course we have the titular unicorn that stars in their own show, It's Buddy. This unicorn is orange with yellow hair and a pink bandana around their neck. They also have a purple heart on their belly.
The other two unicorns in the mural that Freddy passes by are Bobby and Benny. We know these are their names because they're painted underneath the characters. And it's interesting to note that while Benny is on the same level as Buddy, Bobby is center stage, signaling that they're the main star.
Bobby is a blue unicorn with orange hair. They have a blue bandana around their neck and a yellow star on their belly. Benny is a yellow unicorn with what looks like a purplish-pink bandana around their neck. They also have blue hair and a yellow and orange sun on their belly.
What Happened to Benny?
Benny’s fate might be the saddest one because at least there is some mystery as to where Bobby is when it comes to this world. However, we know that Benny has suffered greatly at the hands of Buddy. When we see this yellow unicorn, they’re not on a show of their own with a group of kids that they sing songs and share hugs with. Instead, Benny is in a ramshackle tiny workshop where they are creating the creatures that live on the show world of It’s Buddy.
Benny looks to have been in the workshop for a while. He is beat up, a little old and haggard, and is even wearing glasses, maybe to signify that they’re not in their youth anymore. Even worse, they weren’t really able to talk and could only point at things when Freddy asked them questions about how to escape. Then, there’s the chain around their neck keeping them there. This isn’t a job of choice, and the fact that Benny didn’t fight off Buddy means that they fear them.
An added detail about the horrors that Benny is experiencing in this tiny space is that their creations yell out for help. When Freddy finds the workshop and hides there with her friends, there is a set of mouths that Benny is working on that start yelling for help. That means that even though they are being constructed, they have a consciousness and can experience fear.
What Happened to Bobby?
The mystery of what happened to Bobby in the movie Buddy is probably the biggest one. As I noted earlier, Bobby is in the middle of the mural. That makes it clear to the viewer that, out of the three unicorns, they are the central character of this universe. But from what we’ve seen with Buddy, they like to be the center of attention, and anybody who goes against that or shakes the foundation of his perfect world gets the chop.
For Buddy to get into the position that he is in now, with no humans in the underground infrastructure level to stop him and Benny chained up in the workshop, he had to take Bobby out. It’s either that or something even more nefarious that could speak of a sequel: Bobby is the villain of this story, with their own world in this TV dimension hellscape that’s even worse than Buddy’s world.
Are We Getting a Sequel to 'Buddy'?
At the moment, there are no announcements of Buddy getting a sequel. According to Dread Central, the film emerged as a front-runner within the indie space during its opening weekend with a $5 million opening. Creator Casper Kelly also gave his thoughts on a sequel in an interview with The Direct. “Part of writing it is you develop the underpinning, the rules, and the lore that doesn’t all get into the movie, because you want the movie to have mystery,” he said.
The only thing that gives me pause with this response, especially at the prospect of a sequel giving us more lore, is the fact that Kelly said that he would answer some questions but also extend the mystery because, apparently, he doesn't “like movies that answer everything or tell you every little thing of the backstory.”
