Most people know the adorable blue alien that makes up one-half of Lilo & Stitch, but only die-hard fans and frequent Disney theme park goers know Angel, his adorable pink companion. But their relationship doesn't start as adorably as they look, and there's surprisingly a lot to unpack with the character. At D23, held from August 14-16 in Anaheim, California, fans learned that Angel would make her first feature appearance in the sequel following the live-action Lilo & Stitch (2025).

We also have confirmation that the actor who voices Stitch and co-directed the original animated movie, Lilo & Stitch (2002), Chris Sanders, is returning to direct the sequel, Lilo & Stitch 2 (2028). It's currently unclear if the sequel will follow the events of Lilo & Stitch: Stitch Has a Glitch (2005) or if its inclusion of Angel means it'll draw inspiration from an episode of Lilo & Stitch: The Series (2003) instead.

Either way, considering that the live-action was surprisingly a lot of fun, we can be hopeful that if nothing else, Lilo & Stitch 2 will be solid as well. The movie is set to release exclusively in theaters on May 28, 2028. For the time being, if you want to catch up on the missing adventures, all Lilo & Stitch movies and TV shows are currently streaming on Disney+

Where Do We First Meet Angel In The ‘Lilo & Stitch’ Timeline?

Angel and Stitch in Lilo & Stitch The Series

Angel isn't in any of the movies, and sadly, not enough people watch the animated series. With 25 minutes, each episode focuses on a different Experiment as the titular characters continue to go on their adventures fighting against Captain Gantu. We first meet Experiment 624, Angel, in Season 1, Episode 30, conveniently titled "Angel."

The episode begins with Pleakley obsessing over a romance-centered reality show called America's Gushiest Home Love Stories, where Stitch then disgustingly voices his opinions on falling in love, while Lilo and Pleakley vocalize the importance of it. Pleakley even says, "Just you wait, someday, you'll find another little monster who shares your likes and dislikes. Who finds all your little quirks just oh, so adorable." In the same episode, Lilo is the first to encounter Angel, who bumps into her without an apology, showcasing that she's not as friendly as her little blue lookalike.

Shortly after, when Stitch bumps into her, he's immediately done for, and it naturally upsets Lilo because she sees a different side of her. Still, by the end of the episode, in true Disney fashion, love wins.

Who Is Angel? What Are Her Powers?

Angel in Lilo & Stitch: The Series

Angel was created by Jumba Jookiba, and her power essentially involves Disney's version of a siren song. Once she sings to the Experiments, they turn from good to evil, and the only way to reverse it is to sing the same song backward. However, interestingly, both Stitch and his cousin, Reuben, Experiment 625, are immune because they were created after her.

By the end of the episode, Angel reverses the siren spell from all the experiments Captain Gantu is trying to rally against Stitch, and they all attack him in the process. She's captured later in the episode after reconciling with Stitch, but he and Lilo find her again in Season 2, Episode 28, "Snafu."

While Angel technically has a small role in the Lilo & Stitch franchise, it's no surprise that people love romantic pairings. So it isn't remotely shocking that she has a bigger role in merchandise, and that she's poised to have a more substantial role in the live-action sequel. Though, exactly how we'll see her and where the story will take us, only time will tell.

According to an interview with Variety, when asked about the sequel before the official announcement, Dean Fleischer Camp, director of the first live-action film, said, "If it was the right idea. I wouldn't do it just because there's a new market demand for it. But I also really like the idea of doing an animated spin-off as an episodic or limited series." With this in mind, it's hard to believe that the story wouldn't deliver some sort of complete arc for both Stitch and Angel.

While there's a good chance that it'll do well considering the first grossed over one billion during its worldwide theatrical release, both Disney animated features and live actions tend to have a more complete arc in order to appeal to children as well. We can handle the cliffhangers as adults, but it's hard to believe that kids would have the same reaction to them. In the animated series, Angel has a singing career with her powers, and she and Stitch share a long-distance relationship as a result of it. If that's where the sequel goes, even if there's a third movie announced, it could still be enough to merit her involvement in the sequel.

This animated series chronicles the further adventures of renegade scientist Dr. Jumba Jookiba's beloved Experiment 626, who is now living happily as Lilo's alien buddy Stitch. Jumba’s remaining experiments have landed all over Hawaii in the form of dehydrated pods. Lilo and Stitch’s mission is to catch Stitch’s "cousins" before they fall into the clutches of the evil Dr. Jacques von Hamsterviel!
The second instalment in the live-action adaptation franchise. Plot TBA.
