We all know that the House of Mouse is a machine that never stops turning. Even away from all the Marvel movies, Star Wars adventures, and original animated content, Disney has tonnes of sequels and reboots on the way, too.

There is no denying that Disney knows what works – you only have to look at any list of the highest-grossing movies to see proof of that. And, what better way to all-but guarantee further success, than by doubling down on stories that have already worked.

Here, we give the lowdown on all the sequels and reboots Disney has lined up for the next couple of years, including plenty of animated follow-ups, a live-action remake, and even a legacy sequel more than 20 years in the making.

Do we really need another Ice Age movie? Probably not. Truth is, the franchise hasn’t been strong enough to demand attention since the third instalment, and even then it was very much a take-it-or-leave-it situation. We’re now onto film number six, titled Ice Age: Boiling Point, which will once again bring the core group into contact with dinosaurs.

John C. Donkin – who has been involved in some capacity since the first film – is on directing duties for this one, while Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, and Denis Leary are all back to lend their iconic voices to the characters of Manny, Sid, and Diego once more. Ice Age: Boiling Point is set for release on February 5, 2027.

Probably the most obvious sequel Disney could ever put into production, Frozen 3 comes off the back of the pop culture phenomenon that was the first film, and the box-office-smashing second (it was briefly the highest-grossing animated movie of all time). We’ve waited seven years already for the trilogy-closer, but Frozen 3 will hit the big screen on November 24, 2027.

Jennifer Lee – who co-directed Frozen 2 – will take over as solo director for this one, and the return to Arendelle will see Anna and Kristoff tie the knot, before a new supernatural threat emerges (flying ice creatures, anyone?) and pushes Elsa to embrace her legacy as the fifth spirit to take down the overarching villain behind it all.

Rapunzel

The next Disney movie to get the live-action treatment is Tangled, and the story of Rapunzel already has a solid cast behind it – Titans star Teagan Croft will play the princess at the heart of the story, Milo Manheim of Z-O-M-B-I-E-S fame will play Flynn Rider, and just as the fans wanted, Kathryn Hahn will take on the role of Mother Gothel. There’s also space for Caitriona Balfe (Outlander) and Diego Luna (Andor) to slot in there, too.

I’ll admit I’m not the biggest fan of the live-action remake conveyor belt Disney has going on, but I do actually think this one will translate pretty well. It helps that Michael Gracey, director of The Greatest Showman, is at the helm, which means it will, at the very least, have a nice, big musical feel to it. Tangled comes to cinemas on March 31, 2028.

2028 is going to be a busy year for Disney, with a sequel to the live-action Lilo & Stitch also on the slate. The next time we see the crazy, little alien and his best buddy, we can expect to see his pink partner, Angel, introduced to the story. While we don’t have plot details yet, it is thought this will be an original sequel rather than remaking the animated movie, Stitch Has a Glitch from 2005.

Chris Sanders, the man who created the original movie and voices Stitch, is in as director for Lilo & Stitch 2, and we can expect to see this wild ride of a film crashing into cinemas on May 28, 2028, just in time for Memorial Day weekend.

Likewise, a third Incredibles movie just makes a whole lot of sense. The first film was a wonderful take on the superhero genre, blending family dynamics with slick animation and Brad Bird’s penchant for charming characters. The sequel from 2018 is also still one of the highest-grossing superhero movies, fighting the good fight against nine MCU films in the top 10.

A third outing for the Parr family should be a winner, then, although Bird has stepped away from the director’s chair for this one – the very dependable Peter Sohn is stepping up, after success with The Good Dinosaur and Elemental. We know that Incredibles 3 will see the ban on superheroes lifted, but with a new wave of good guys and villains out there, Mr. Incredible might just find that he’s not up to the task anymore. This one will hit theatres on June 16, 2028.

Coco 2

2029

Personally, I don’t think Coco 2 is needed at all. The first film is a wonderful exploration of grief and family, and it wraps up nicely by the end. Now, according to a report from Variety, the sequel will pick up with Miguel as a teenager as he reconciles with his nemesis, Ernesto de la Cruz in the Land of the Dead.

The fact that original director Lee Unkrich and co-director Adrian Molina are returning for the sequel does put some of the doubts to bed, while Benjamin Bratt is also back to voice Ernesto. It’s unknown who will voice Miguel this time, but we do know that Coco 2 will be released on November 21, 2029.

A new Romy and Michele movie is on the way, and while it won’t be playing in cinemas, it is still worth mentioning. The original film from 1997 was full of talent, namely Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino, who play a pair of hapless friends who make up a bunch of lies to appear more successful at their high-school reunion. We got a second film back in 2005, which served as a prequel, but that one doesn’t quite count as canon.

Instead, Romy and Michele 2 will arrive on streaming in 2027 and pick up 20 years after the first film. The titular pair are now owners of a fashion boutique in Beverly Hills but they’re still looking for love. The original cast are all back, the project started filming in the summer of 2026, and Kudrow told The Hollywood Reporter that there’s a “really funny script” behind the movie. Sign us up!
