From its earliest days on MTV, Jackass earned such a high level of clout that it’s probably no surprise how quickly some of Hollywood’s big names wanted to get in on the action.

Now, with the release of Jackass Best and Last, we have three seasons and five movies' worth of cameos to look back on. This makes for an eclectic roll-call of legends from the worlds of cinema, sports and music, each of whom gets involved to varying degrees of physical and emotional peril

In the list below, which is arranged in chronological order, I’ve rounded up the twelve biggest guest stars in Jackass history. There are some you will easily remember, some perhaps not, and a few whom you mightn't have even noticed the first time around. Read on to learn a bit more, and use the guide below to find out where to watch everything they appear in.

Spike Jonze

Spike Jonze was a legend of the L.A. skateboarding scene in the 1990s, long before he turned to making music videos and directing movies like Being John Malkovich and Her. He basically helped get Jackass off the ground, serving as a producer (and sometimes cameraman) on the show from Day One.

As a result, Jonze pops up here and there across the early seasons and the first movie, but he doesn’t get involved directly until Jackass 2, in which he helps to raise some hell while riding a mobility scooter in the “Three Old Ladies” bit.

Tony Hawk & Matt Hoffman

If you grew up in the 1990s, you didn’t have to know anything about skateboarding or BMX to know who Tony Hawk or Matt Hoffman were—this was thanks to the iconic EA Sports games that had their names on the covers, but it was also partially thanks to Jackass.

Naturally, with skaters like Jonze and Bam Margera involved in the series, the biggest names in extreme sports were always going to start popping up at some point. Hawk and Hoffman first appeared in Season 2 in the first bit to use “The Loop” ramp, which they naturally complete and then do again while wearing chicken suits.

Brad Pitt

The biggest guest star to ever grace the TV show was easily Brad Pitt—an actor who, having just starred in Fight Club and Ocean’s Eleven, was at the peak of his heartthrob powers at the time. This apparently came about because Pitt was a big-time fan and actually reached out to Knoxville to get involved, which is kind of cute when you think about it.

Pitt appears in two bits in the same episode: firstly playing himself as the victim of a staged abduction; and then again during the credits sequence, where he basically just goofs around with the guys while wearing an ape suit.

Henry Rollins

With the skate connection and Margera’s band, CKY, not to mention the show’s general punky vibe, it’s also natural that plenty of rock stars and rappers have wanted to get involved over the years. An early classic of this subgenre of Jackass guest star involves the Black Flag frontman Henry Rollins—who, in a stunt called “Off Road Tattoo”, drives an open-top Humvee over some pretty rough terrain as Margera attempts to ink a smiley face onto Steve-O’s left arm.

Outside of his legendary music career, Rollins has appeared in plenty of movies and shows over the years, including Heat and Lost Highway, but is probably best known these days as an author and the presenter of The Henry Rollins Show.

Rip Taylor

If you’ve seen Wayne's World 2, you probably already know Rip Taylor as the generously moustached man who shows up to sparkle some confetti and good vibes during 'Waynestock,' near the end of the movie.

Presumably inspired by Mike Myers’ classic, the Jackass crew got Taylor to repeat the trick at the end of their first movie—with Taylor arriving on a little boat just before the credits rolled. Taylor returned for the incredible song and dance number at the end of Jackass 2 and again for the slo-mo explosions sequence at the end of 3D. Sadly, that run of appearances ended with Taylor’s passing in 2019. RIP, Rip.

John Waters

jackass jon waters

Given that the great John Waters basically refers to himself as "The Godfather of Trash” and has always been an outspoken fan of the whole Jackass project, it’s strange that he hasn’t appeared in it more often.

Waters’ lone Jackass cameo comes at around the halfway point in the second movie, appearing in a bit called “The Magic Trick” in which he essentially plays a magician and Wee Man essentially gets temporarily smothered by a larger individual.

Mike Judge

Luke Wilson never managed to make it into a Jackass movie—his “Shock Phone” appearance ended up on the cutting room floor—but the actor’s Ideocracy director, Mike Judge, has appeared on more than one occasion and in more than one way.

The King of the Hill and Beavis and Butthead creator first popped up briefly in the closing credits of Jackass 2, but he got to have some real input on the start of Jackass 3D—in a quick animated sketch in which Beavis and Butthead instruct the audience on how to use their 3D glasses.

Weezer

I feel that the Jackass movies really hit their stride with Jackass 3D. This was the point in the series when the production values went up (no filmmakers have ever gotten more bang for their buck with a slo-mo camera) and the boys came to the soulful realisation that they'd been put on this earth not to wind up unsuspecting members of the public but to fall over in increasingly inventive ways.

Jackass 3D also ended on a nostalgic and slightly melancholy vibe (call it a sense of mortality) that has carry on beautifully into the next two movies. This was driven home in the closing credits, which showed clips of Knoxville, Steve-O and co in the show's earliest days along with pictures of them as kids, all set to an original Weezer song called 'Memories'. We even get to see the band in the studio, with the Jackass guys singing along.

Machine Gun Kelly

When the gang returned in 2021 with Jackass Forever, the franchise’s decade-long break meant that a whole new generation of stars were now willing and ready to get involved. Comedians like Eric Andre basically became de facto cast members, but there was still plenty of room for a few stunt cameos.

In perhaps the funniest of these, Machine Gun Kelly can be seen competing against Steve-O in “Backhand Bicycle“, a game that basically involves pedalling as fast as you can so that your opponent gets smacked into a swimming pool before you do. Needless to say, neither of them goes home dry.

Tyler, the Creator

A few years before making his big screen debut in Marty Supreme, the innovative hip hop musician Tyler, the Creator appeared in Jackass Forever in a bit called “Electric Tap Dance.”

For this one, Tyler sits and plays a jangly, old-timey piano (with Chris Pontius lying on top in drag), as Dave England, Preston and a few others tap dance on an electrically charged floor—to which Knoxville naturally holds the power.

Paul Walter Hauser

Given that the fifth movie in the franchise, Jackass: Best and Last, is more of a victory lap for the guys, it's understandable that they didn't leave much room for guest stars. The only big name to appear is the actor Paul Walter Hauser, who happily takes part in a game involving trivia, a lounge chair, and the naked Jackass relative newcomer Zach Holmes in an ever lowering harness.

Movie fans will know Walter Hauser for his great work as a character actor, in particular his acclaimed performances in I, Tonya and Richard Jewell. He also played Mole Man in last year's The Fantastic 4: First Steps.
