The tale of the Grinch, a misanthropic creature determined to ruin Christmas, has captivated audiences for decades. Beginning with Dr. Seuss's original storybook How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (1957), the character has undergone various cinematic transformations, from heartwarming to hilariously dark. Each adaptation offers its own twist on the beloved holiday classic, reflecting the evolving tastes of its audiences.

We offer you a glimpse at every Grinch movie made ever, and where you can find them for streaming online.

Which Grinch movies should I watch first?

The tale of the Grinch has been adapted in three films and a TV special. But none of these are connected and they can all be seen as standalone entries.

The Grinch’s cinematic journey began with the 1966 animated television special How the Grinch Stole Christmas!, directed by Chuck Jones. Narrated by Boris Karloff, who also voiced the Grinch, this adaptation stayed close to the original text, capturing the whimsical illustrations and rhymes of Dr. Seuss. With its simple yet heartfelt animation and the unforgettable song “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch,” the TV special became an instant holiday classic, laying the foundation for future adaptations.

In 2000, Ron Howard brought the Grinch to life in Dr. Seuss How The Grinch Stole Christmas, a live-action adaptation starring Jim Carrey. This film expanded the story, exploring the Grinch’s backstory and his relationship with the residents of Whoville. Carrey’s eccentric performance and the elaborate makeup created a more layered and comedic Grinch. While some purists found it strayed too far from the simplicity of the original, the film remains a holiday favorite for its over-the-top humor, imaginative production design, and heartfelt message.

The Grinch returned in animated form in 2018 with Illumination’s Dr. Seuss' The Grinch. Voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch, this adaptation presented a softer, more relatable Grinch, modernizing the tale for a new generation. While it retained the core themes of redemption and the spirit of Christmas, this version emphasized a family-friendly, feel-good vibe. The vibrant animation and Cumberbatch’s witty portrayal made it another popular holiday film.

In 2022, the Grinch took an unexpected turn with The Mean One, an unauthorized horror parody directed by Steven LaMorte. Featuring David Howard Thornton (known for his role as Art the Clown in the Terrifier franchise) as the titular character, this reimagining twisted the holiday cheer into terror. Set in a small town, the movie follows a young woman battling the Grinch-like monster on a murderous rampage. While far from the traditional adaptations, The Mean One showcased the versatility of the Grinch's story, appealing to fans of dark humor and horror.

From heartwarming to horrifying, the Grinch has undergone dramatic changes in tone and style across decades. Whether through the nostalgic charm of the 1966 special, Jim Carrey’s madcap antics, Illumination’s vibrant animation, or the twisted terror of The Mean One, the Grinch’s story continues to evolve, proving its enduring appeal as a holiday tale for all.

    Standalone Remake

    Standalone TV series

Released in 2024, The First Omen serves as a prequel to the franchise. Set in the 1960s, it focuses on the life of a young American nun in Vatican City who becomes a witness to the birth of Damien, the Antichrist. This film sets the stage for the ominous events that follow in the main series, offering a fresh perspective on how the Antichrist's presence began to take shape.

After the prequel, the next film to watch is the original The Omen (1976). Directed by Richard Donner, it follows Robert Thorn, an American ambassador in London, who unknowingly adopts the child Damien, only to discover that the child is the Antichrist. This movie, known for its atmosphere and psychological terror, introduced the world to the concept of Damien as the son of Satan.

The 1978 sequel, Damien: Omen II, picks up the story as Damien, now a young boy, starts to fully embrace his dark destiny. As he nears adulthood, he becomes more aware of his supernatural powers and the role he is destined to play in the apocalypse. This film delves deeper into Damien's development and the growing threats surrounding him.

The next installment, The Omen III: The Final Conflict (1981), follows Damien as an adult, now in a position of immense power. As the Antichrist, he begins to seek world domination, culminating in a final showdown between him and those who seek to stop him. This movie closes the initial trilogy with a dramatic and intense conclusion to Damien's arc.

In 2006, the Omen franchise was revived with a remake of the original film, simply titled The Omen (2006). Directed by John Moore, it updates the story for a new generation, with a new cast including Liev Schreiber and Julia Stiles. While the remake stays faithful to the original, it adds a modern touch and updated effects.

Following the success of the 2006 remake, the franchise continued with Damien (2016), a television series that explores Damien's life as an adult, struggling to come to terms with his demonic heritage. This series serves as a continuation of The Omen trilogy but takes a more in-depth approach to Damien's internal conflict.

With The First Omen (2024) adding a new chapter to the franchise, fans of the series can expect even more insights into the origins of the Antichrist and how his path toward domination was set in motion.

In summary, watching the Omen franchise in order, starting with The First Omen, allows you to follow the horrifying journey of Damien from his birth to his rise as the Antichrist, experiencing the terror and dread that has defined the series for decades.

Ridley Scott’s debut, The Duellists (1977), set the tone for his meticulous attention to detail. A historical drama rich in atmosphere, it introduced his knack for combining visual grandeur with intimate storytelling. He soon revolutionized science fiction with Alien (1979), a tense masterpiece that blended horror with futuristic design. Blade Runner (1982) followed, a noir-inspired exploration of humanity and technology that became a genre-defining classic.

Scott ventured into varied genres with Legend (1985), a fantastical tale known for its ethereal visuals, and Black Rain (1989), a gritty crime thriller set in Japan. In the 1990s, he brought feminist themes to the forefront with Thelma & Louise (1991), an iconic road movie that resonated with audiences and earned him his first Academy Award nomination.

The early 2000s marked a golden period for Scott. Gladiator (2000), a sweeping epic set in ancient Rome, earned five Oscars, including Best Picture. With Black Hawk Down (2001), Scott delivered a harrowing depiction of modern warfare, celebrated for its realism and intensity. Apple TV+'s Silo is a gripping dystopian drama based on Hugh Howey's Wool series. Set in a massive, self-sustaining underground silo, the show explores a society bound by strict rules and secrecy. As its inhabitants grapple with authoritarian control and forbidden truths about their world, an engineer named Juliette investigates a series of mysterious deaths, uncovering shocking revelations.

With Silo currently in its second season, we offer you a list of many similar recommendations from the dystopian sci-fi genre. We also provide you with all the offers to find them on streaming alone.

    1- Snowpiercer

Set in a frozen post-apocalyptic world, this series depicts humanity confined to a perpetually moving train divided by a strict class hierarchy. Much like Silo, Snowpiercer delves into rebellion, societal control, and the desperation of those seeking freedom. Its claustrophobic setting and tension-filled storylines will resonate with fans of Silo’s confined yet rich world-building.

    2- The Expanse

This space opera is set in a future where humanity has colonized the solar system but remains divided by political and social tensions. Its gripping mysteries, moral dilemmas, and complex characters make it a must-watch for Silo fans who enjoy intricate narratives and exploring how societies crumble under pressure while grappling with hidden truths.

    3- The Handmaid’s Tale

This dystopian drama explores a totalitarian regime where women are subjugated and personal freedoms are stripped away. Like Silo, it focuses on individual resistance against oppressive systems, with a slow unraveling of dark secrets. Its emotional depth and exploration of human survival will captivate Silo fans seeking powerful stories of resilience.

    4- Black Mirror

This anthology series examines the dangers of technology and humanity’s potential dystopian futures. With each episode presenting a standalone yet deeply unsettling story, it mirrors Silo’s themes of societal control and hidden agendas.

    5- Battlestar Galactica

This reimagined classic follows the remnants of humanity as they flee from robotic Cylons while dealing with internal power struggles and ethical conflicts. Its themes of survival and leadership, coupled with its exploration of the fragility of human existence, offer similar emotional and intellectual depth to that of Silo’s narrative.

    6- Colony

Set in a dystopian world under alien occupation, Colony explores themes of resistance, betrayal, and family loyalty. The show’s focus on a small group of survivors navigating an oppressive system will appeal to Silo fans, particularly those drawn to stories of rebellion and moral ambiguity within tightly controlled societies.

    7- Lost

This iconic series follows survivors of a plane crash uncovering the mysteries of a deserted island. Its layered storytelling, interconnected characters, and cryptic clues resemble Silo’s gradual revelation of secrets and focus on the personal and societal struggles of its inhabitants. Fans of Silo will appreciate Lost’s intricate world-building and emotional weight.

    8- Westworld

This sci-fi drama explores the intersection of artificial intelligence, consciousness, and freedom. Like Silo, it questions the nature of control and delves into the hidden agendas of those in power.

    9- The Leftovers

This deeply emotional series tackles the aftermath of a global event where 2% of the population mysteriously disappears. Its focus on grief, resilience, and the human search for meaning mirrors Silo’s themes of survival and community within a mysterious and unsettling world.

    10- 3%

In this Brazilian dystopian series, society is divided into two: the elite who live in luxury and the rest who live in squalor. Candidates from the impoverished side undergo a brutal selection process to join the elite. Its focus on inequality, rebellion, and survival aligns with Silo’s exploration of societal control and hidden truths, making it an engaging watch.

Grab your popcorn and start making plans because the movie release calendar for 2025 is here, and it's about to get really busy, really soon. With the pandemic and Hollywood strikes behind us, film production has been in full swing, and next year is quickly shaping up to be one of the most promising years for film enthusiasts.

From Brad Pitt starring in F1, a thrilling sports-action film directed by the director of Top Gun: Maverick and produced by British racer Lewis Hamilton, to Ana De Armas continuing the legendary John Wick franchise with her new film Ballerina, there’s a lot in store for movie buffs in 2025. Bollywood is also bringing its A-game, with mega-stars like Alia Bhatt, Salman Khan, and Akshay Kumar taking centre stage in adrenaline-fueled films like Alpha, Sikandar, and Sky Force, all set to release in 2025.

So if you need something to get you excited about the New Year, here’s a list of JustWatch’s top 50 most exciting movies releasing in 2025.

The biggest Indian movies releasing in 2025

After two years in production, Akshay Kumar’s latest war-action biopic, Sky Force, is all set to blow everyone’s minds away this Republic Day. The thrilling aerial-action film covers the events of the Indo-Pakistani air war of 1965, and features a star-studded line-up with Akshay Kumar headlining the film as an Indian air-force officer, alongside Nimrat Kaur and Sara Ali Khan.

The film will battle it out in cinemas alongside Aamir Khan and Sunny Deol’s war-action thriller Lahore1947, which is inspired by the events of the great partition. Adding to this lineup, Salman Khan’s Sikandar will hit theatres on Eid, March 30, ensuring an action-packed start to the year. Between Lahore1947, Sikandar, and Sky Force, we've only scratched the surface of the biggest films of Q1.

With upcoming releases like Alpha, War 2, and Housefull 5 later in the year, 2025 promises to be an exhilarating year for Indian moviegoers, packed with thrilling cinema from start to finish.

The biggest Hollywood movies releasing in 2025

2025 is shaping up to be a year of reboots, remakes, and sequels that fans have long been awaiting. Tron: Ares, the follow-up to Tron: Legacy, will finally arrive in cinemas after a 15-year wait, and will serve as the final chapter in the long drawn Tron trilogy. Sci-fi fans can also look forward to Avatar: Fire & Ash, the latest instalment in James Cameron’s blockbuster Avatar franchise. This new chapter will take viewers on a darker, more intense journey through the uncharted and mystical lands of Pandora, possibly making it less suitable for younger audiences.

But that’s no reason to get sad as there's still plenty for audiences of all ages to enjoy, with family-friendly releases like Wicked: Part 2, starring pop icon Ariana Grande, and Disney’s live-action Snow White remake both hitting screens next year.

Marvel fans also have a lot to look forward to with Captain America: Brave New World. The movie sees Sam Wilson stepping up as the new Captain America after inheriting the shield from Steve Rogers and is set for a 2025 release. For those who miss the quirky ensemble of Guardians of the Galaxy, Thunderbolts* – Marvel's latest upcoming anti-hero team film, featuring a band of misfits led by the troubled assassin Yelena Belova, is sure to be a must-watch.

Next year’s lineup also features a slate of exciting original stories. Director Antoine Fuqua will offer a behind-the-scenes look at one of music’s most iconic figures with Michael, a biographical drama about Michael Jackson. You may be wondering why Fuqua, a director best known for action-packed thrillers like The Equalizer and Shooter, would take on a biopic like Michael. But what many don’t know is that he started his career directing music videos for icons like Prince and Stevie Wonder, making him a natural fit for this project.

Mickey 17 is another film generating buzz and excitement from audiences worldwide, as it's the first project from filmmaker Bong Joon-ho after his multiple Academy Award wins at the Oscars for Parasite.

With such a colourful mix of wholesome animated adventures, high-octane action, thrilling dramas, and mind-bending originals, 2025 is shaping up to be an exciting year for moviegoers of all ages and tastes.

The Resident Evil movie franchise offers a unique and thrilling experience, especially for fans of horror and action. Inspired by Capcom’s iconic video game series, the franchise includes the Milla Jovovich-led films, animated movies, and a recent reboot that delves deeper into the original storyline. Watching them in order can enhance the understanding of character developments, plot twists, and the overall Resident Evil lore.

Check out our guide below on where to watch all the Resident Evil movies streaming online in India.

How to watch the Resident Evil movies in chronological order

To follow the timeline as it unfolds within the Resident Evil universe, you have three franchises to explore.

    The Original Live-Action Movies

    Live-Action Reboot

    Animated Movies

Resident Evil (2002) is the first live-action film starring Milla Jovovich as Alice, an original character created for the series, introducing viewers to the Umbrella Corporation’s T-virus outbreak. Though not directly adapted from the games, this movie sets the tone for the franchise's action-horror style.

In Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004), Alice teams up with Jill Valentine (a fan-favorite character from the games), continuing the battle against the Umbrella Corporation, zombies, and bio-weapons, including the Nemesis creature.

By Resident Evil: Extinction (2007), the T-virus has now turned the world into a desert wasteland. Alice and survivors fight to locate a cure, as her powers continue to evolve.

In Resident Evil: Afterlife (2010), Alice confronts the head of the Umbrella Corporation, Albert Wesker, while discovering survivors in Los Angeles in a post-apocalyptic setting.

Resident Evil: Retribution (2012) sees Alice captured and experimented on by Umbrella, leading her to confront past allies and enemies in a simulation environment.

As the title suggests, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (2016) is the last Jovovich film.  Alice returns to Raccoon City, where she faces Umbrella’s ultimate plan and uncovers the truth behind her past.

The live-action reboot Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (2021) closely follows the events of the first two games, reintroducing beloved characters like Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Leon S. Kennedy, and Claire Redfield, and gives a more game-accurate portrayal of the T-virus outbreak.

The franchise has also included four animated movies that are more faithful to the video games than the live-action movies.  It starts with Resident Evil: Degeneration (2008) which is set between Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5, this animated movie focuses on characters Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield as they face another zombie outbreak tied to a bioterrorism plot.

This is followed by Resident Evil: Damnation (2012) which is set before Resident Evil 6. It follows Leon in Eastern Europe as he combats bio-organic weapons amidst a civil war. Resident Evil: Vendetta (2017) takes place after Resident Evil 6 and showcases Leon, Chris Redfield, and Rebecca Chambers as they face a bioterrorist threat to New York City.

  • How to Watch Fullmetal Alchemist in Order
    Shaurya Singh Thapa

    Shaurya Singh Thapa

    JustWatch Editor

The Fullmetal Alchemist franchise is one of the most beloved and complex anime series, known for its deep philosophical themes, compelling characters, and intricate storylines. It can be a little confusing for newcomers to figure out how to approach the two different anime adaptations (Fullmetal Alchemist and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood) and the movies that accompany them.

Here’s a breakdown of how to watch Fullmetal Alchemist in order to get the full experience.

How to watch Fullmetal Alchemist in chronological order

There are three ways of watching Fullmetal Alchemist anime. One is following the original 2003 series which can be followed with The Conqueror of Shamballa. The other involved a reworked manga-accurate remake Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood which has a spinoff chapter set in between its episodes. Additionally, there’s also a live-action trilogy that adapts the anime.

    2003 series timeline

    Brotherhood timeline

    Live-action

The first anime adaptation of Hiromu Arakawa’s manga, Fullmetal Alchemist (2003), aired before the manga was finished, so it takes significant creative liberties with the storyline and characters. While it follows the same premise—brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric use alchemy to try to resurrect their dead mother and suffer severe consequences—it diverges from the source material about halfway through the series.

This version is often praised for its dark and emotional tone and is a great introduction to the characters. It consists of 51 episodes, and although it’s not as faithful to the manga as the later adaptation, it remains a fan favorite for its unique story.

After finishing the 2003 series, the story continues with Fullmetal Alchemist: The Conqueror of Shamballa, a feature-length movie that serves as a direct sequel to the anime’s original ending. This movie wraps up loose ends and takes Edward and Alphonse into a parallel world resembling 1920s Germany, blending real-world history with fantasy.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is the second adaptation of the manga and stays much closer to the original storyline. It begins similarly to the 2003 series but quickly diverges, presenting new characters, different plot points, and a more faithful adaptation of the manga’s themes. With 64 episodes, Brotherhood is generally considered the definitive version of the story, praised for its tighter narrative and more expansive world-building. It’s best watched as a stand-alone series if you want the truest adaptation of Arakawa’s work.

Sacred Star of Milos is a movie that is set within the Brotherhood continuity, perhaps between episodes 15 and 24. But as there’s no confirmed place of the movie in the series it can be watched after Brotherhood as well. The movie follows Edward and Alphonse as they investigate a mysterious alchemist. While it’s not essential to the main plot, it offers an entertaining side story for fans who want more of Fullmetal Alchemist on streaming online.

The 2017 live-action movie adaptation of Fullmetal Alchemist was released on Netflix and condenses the early part of the manga and anime into a feature-length film. The movie focuses on Edward and Alphonse’s journey to recover their original bodies through alchemy. Two sequels followed: Fullmetal Alchemist: The Revenge of Scar and Fullmetal Alchemist: The Final Alchemy.

  • How (and Where) to Watch All the Saw Movies In Order

James Wan and Leigh Whannell are two of the most well-known and successful names in the world of horror, with massive franchises like Insidious, and The Conjuring under their belts. But they started very humbly, with a low-budget film that would go on to revolutionize the genre and spawn one of the most enduring horror franchises of all time: Saw. Read on to learn more about the Saw franchise and to find out where the movies are all streaming online in India.

The filmmaking duo James Wan and Leigh Whannell met back in college, where they conceived the initial idea for a story about two people chained in a dingy bathroom, forced to play a series of twisted games that test their survival instincts. After years of pitching their concept without success, the duo created a short film that gained attention, leading them to take a leap of faith and move from Australia to Los Angeles in search of bigger opportunities. Backed by Evolution Entertainment, they released their first feature-length film, Saw, in 2004. The movie became an unexpected box office success, marking the beginning of a billion-dollar multimedia franchise that includes comics, multiple sequels, video games, and even a theme park ride— with an eleventh film on the way. The Saw saga not only captivated audiences but also paved the way for the rise of the "torture horror" sub-genre, influencing many films that followed.

The first Saw movie introduced us to the infamous Jigsaw killer, John Kramer, who traps his victims and gives them a chance to escape and start over by forcing them into a series of survival tests, rather than killing them outright. However, as the films progress, it can feel like you're caught in one of Kramer’s twisted games, trying to piece together the timeline jumps, plot twists, and all of John Kramer’s disciples. But don’t worry, we’re here with a cheat sheet to help you navigate the madness.

Here’s a breakdown of all the Saw movies in both release and chronological order to make sense of it all. (We recommend watching the films in release order if this is your first time around, as it's more straightforward and easier to follow.)

How to watch all the Saw movies in chronological order

Beware: This section of the article is only for people already familiar with the Saw franchise and looking to watch the films in chronological order to make sense of the bizarre events that unfold in the later movies through flashbacks. It contains heavy spoilers to the plot of the Saw series.

If you want to follow John Kramer’s life from the very beginning, start by watching Jigsaw. Even though this film is technically the eighth in the franchise, it serves as a prequel, offering insight into some of John Kramer’s early victims and games. The film includes several pivotal flashbacks that explain more about Kramer’s twisted philosophy and his motivations for starting his deadly series of tests.

Next, move on to the original Saw (2004), which introduces Kramer’s core motivation: trapping victims in deadly games that force them to make life-altering choices. It also establishes key elements of the franchise, including the infamous puppet, Billy, and Jigsaw’s signature traps. After Saw, continue with Saw X (2023), which takes place shortly after the events of the first film. In Saw X, we see Kramer attempting to solidify his legacy while battling terminal cancer.

From here, follow the release order of the films, from Saw II through Saw 3D (also known as Saw VII). This sequence delves deeper into Jigsaw’s accomplices, explores increasingly elaborate traps, and shows how Kramer’s deadly legacy continues through his devoted followers, even after his death. The seventh film, Saw 3D, was originally intended to be the final chapter, offering a climax to the storylines developed throughout the series.

Finally, finish with Spiral: From the Book of Saw (2021). Set after the events of the original Saw films, Spiral introduces Detective Zeke Banks as he investigates a new series of murders inspired by Jigsaw’s methods.

The I Know What You Did Last Summer franchise became a defining slasher series of the late '90s, capitalizing on the teen horror boom sparked by Scream. Based on Lois Duncan’s 1973 novel, the films focus on a group of friends haunted by a killer after covering up a deadly accident.

Filled with suspense, mystery, and slasher thrills, the franchise remains a nostalgic favorite for many. If you're ready to revisit or discover this chilling tale, here’s a guide on how to watch I Know What You Did Last Summer movies in order. Our streaming guide will also show all the platforms where you can watch these movies streaming online for free.

How to watch the I Know What You Did Last Summer movies in chronological order

If you're diving into the I Know What You Did Last Summer franchise, start with the 1997 original, followed by its 1998 sequel, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer. The 2006 third entry, I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer, isn’t directly connected to the first two but can be viewed as a standalone horror film. Finally, if you’re interested in a modern take, the 2021 TV series is worth checking out, though it introduces a brand-new storyline and characters.

    Original series:

    TV series reboot:

The first movie in the franchise introduces us to four friends— Julie, Ray, Helen, and Barry— who are stalked by a mysterious figure one year after covering up a hit-and-run accident. Starring Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Freddie Prinze Jr., and Ryan Phillippe, the film blends teen drama with classic slasher elements, giving birth to a killer who becomes synonymous with the genre—the hook-wielding Fisherman.

The sequel picks up a year after the events of the first film, with Julie James still traumatized by the events of the past summer. In an attempt to move on, she and her friends head to a tropical resort, only to find that the terror has followed them. With the return of the Fisherman, the tension escalates, leading to more chilling and deadly confrontations. While not as critically acclaimed as the original, this sequel offers more high-stakes horror for fans of the series.

The third installment in the series departs from the original storyline, introducing a new group of teens haunted by the Fisherman after a prank goes wrong. Set years after the events of the first two films, this direct-to-video sequel takes a more supernatural approach, shifting away from the familiar characters and narrative. While this film is considered the weakest entry in the franchise, it still provides a continuation for die-hard fans.

As for the 2021 Amazon Prime Video series, this reboot reimagines the original concept, bringing the story to a new generation. While the core premise remains the same— a group of teenagers being stalked after covering up a deadly accident— the series expands the narrative, adding new twists, characters, and a darker tone.

Unlike the films, the series offers a more drawn-out mystery and character development, making it an interesting reboot for fans of the original.

The Hills Have Eyes franchise is a staple in horror history, exploring the terrifying idea of mutant cannibals terrorizing unsuspecting travelers in remote desert areas. Originally created by Wes Craven in 1977, the series gained cult status for its intense horror and social commentary. The franchise later expanded with a sequel, a remake, and its own follow-up, all contributing to its legacy as a fan-favorite in the horror genre.

Whether you prefer classic horror or enjoy modern reimaginings, here’s a guide on how to watch The Hills Have Eyes movies in order. Our guide also shows you all the platforms and services where you can watch these movies streaming online.

How to watch The Hills Have Eyes movies in chronological order

There isn’t much overlap between the original films and the remakes, so it’s easy to follow either timeline on its own. If you want to explore the origins of the story, starting with Wes Craven’s 1977 classic is the way to go. Alternatively, the 2006 remake and its sequel offer a more modern and intense horror experience, without the need to watch the originals.

    Wes Craven’s original series

    Remake series

The original 1977 film sets the tone for the franchise, introducing audiences to the Carter family, who find themselves stranded in the Nevada desert and hunted by a group of mutant cannibals. Craven’s gritty direction and unique take on family survival make this film an iconic piece of 1970s horror. This low-budget thriller, inspired by the legend of Sawney Bean, is packed with tension and has left a lasting impression on the genre.

Set several years after the events of the original, this sequel follows survivors Bobby Carter and Ruby, who must face a new encounter with the surviving cannibals. Although it didn’t gain the same praise as its predecessor, the film continues the grim and bloody narrative Craven started. This installment introduces more survivors, but its lower production quality has often relegated it to cult status rather than mainstream recognition.

The 2006 remake is a brutal reimagining of the original story, updating the tale of a family attacked by mutant cannibals in the desert. With more graphic violence and modern special effects, this version packs an even more disturbing punch. Director Alexandre Aja brings a fresh perspective, and the film became one of the most popular horror remakes of the 2000s. It stands alone from the original continuity, making it perfect for new audiences.

Following the success of the 2006 remake, a sequel was quickly made, this time focusing on a group of National Guard trainees encountering the cannibals during a mission. The film delves deeper into the lives of the mutants, and while not as critically acclaimed as its predecessor, it still delivers gruesome thrills for horror enthusiasts.

The Amityville Horror series is one of the most enduring horror franchises, with its roots tracing back to the alleged supernatural events in the 1970s at 112 Ocean Avenue in Amityville, New York. The 1979 movie The Amityville Horror was based on Jay Anson’s 1977 book about the Lutz family’s terrifying experiences in the house. Over the years, the franchise has spawned numerous sequels, prequels, and spinoffs, covering haunted houses, demonic possessions, and more, though most are not directly connected.

Here's a guide to watching the Amityville Horror movies in order while we also show where you can stream them all online.

How to watch The Amityville Horror movies in chronological order

    Original series:

    Remake:

The original film that started it all, The Amityville Horror (1979), is based on the real-life account of the Lutz family who moved into a house with a terrifying history. Starring James Brolin and Margot Kidder, this classic haunted house tale set the stage for future installments.

This prequel focuses on the Montelli family and the events leading up to the murders that occurred in the house before the Lutz family arrived. It's a chilling depiction of demonic possession that adds more context to the original film.

In this third entry, presented in 3D, an investigative journalist buys the infamous Amityville house only to discover the supernatural forces are still very much alive. This movie has less to do with the previous films but keeps the haunted house theme intact.

This made-for-TV movie explores what happens when cursed objects from the Amityville house are taken out into the world. A haunted lamp carries the evil with it, expanding the lore beyond the house itself.

In another tangential sequel, Amityville: It’s About Time revolves around a haunted clock that spreads the Amityville curse to a new family. Like earlier films, it delves into cursed objects instead of the house itself.

Amityville: A New Generation continues the theme of haunted objects, this time centering on a cursed mirror. It has loose connections to the original lore but is mostly a standalone horror film.

Amityville Dollhouse explores the consequences of a replica dollhouse modeled after the infamous Amityville home, which brings supernatural terror into the lives of its new owners.

A modern reboot of the 1979 classic released in 2005 starring Ryan Reynolds and Melissa George as the parents of the Lutz family. The remake updates the original story for contemporary audiences while sticking to the core haunted house themes.

Are there any other Amityville-themed horror movies?

There are many spinoffs and unrelated films that have used the Amityville name over the years, including The Amityville Murders (2018), Amityville: Mt. Misery Road (2018), and The Amityville Haunting (2011). These films do not follow the original storyline but are inspired by the infamous house.

The Hellraiser franchise, known for its nightmarish depictions of otherworldly beings called Cenobites and the iconic figure of Pinhead, spans multiple films with an intricate blend of horror, philosophy, and grotesque beauty. Whether you're a longtime fan or a newcomer to the series, navigating the franchise's many sequels and reboots can be daunting.

Here’s a guide on how to watch the Hellraiser movies in order, from the 1987 original to the 2022 reboot. Read on to also know how and where you can stream the Hellraiser movies online in India.

How to watch all Hellraiser movies in chronological order

Starting with the 1987 original, Hellraiser spawned a series of several theatrical and direct-to-DVD sequels until 2018. From 2022 onwards, the series got rebooted with a new spin on the original, also called Hellraiser.

    Original franchise

    Reboot

The franchise begins with the original Hellraiser, directed by Clive Barker and based on his novella The Hellbound Heart. The story revolves around a puzzle box that opens a gateway to a dimension of pain and pleasure, ruled by the Cenobites. Pinhead, the leader of the Cenobites, became a horror icon through this film. It’s essential viewing for anyone wanting to explore the Hellraiser universe.

The second film picks up immediately after the first. Kirsty, the heroine of the original, is institutionalized after her encounter with the Cenobites. However, the puzzle box’s horrors soon follow her.

In this third installment, Pinhead is unleashed on the world without his human side, becoming more malevolent. The film shifts focus from the surreal horror of the previous two films to a more slasher-like tone.

Hellraiser: Bloodline explores the origins of the puzzle box across three time periods: the 18th century, modern times, and the future in space. While Hellraiser: Bloodline was an ambitious project, studio interference led to its final cut being heavily altered.

The first direct-to-video sequel, Inferno centers on a corrupt detective who stumbles upon the puzzle box while investigating a series of murders.

Hellseeker brings back Kirsty Cotton, the heroine of the first two films, as her husband becomes entangled in a deadly game after opening the puzzle box.

In Deader, a reporter investigates a dangerous cult that believes in unlocking immortality through the puzzle box.

This meta entry in the series revolves around a group of gamers who play a Hellraiser-themed video game, only to discover the Cenobites are real. Hellworld offers a modernized, albeit less effective, take on the Hellraiser mythos.

Often considered the weakest in the franchise, Revelations was produced quickly to retain the rights to the series. It featured a new actor as Pinhead and recycled many familiar plot elements but failed to resonate with fans or critics.

The final direct-to-video entry, Judgment, tried to reinvigorate the franchise by introducing new Cenobites and a more investigative storyline. While still flawed, it marked an improvement over Revelations.

The 2022 Hellraiser is a reboot that reimagines the original story. Directed by David Bruckner, it brings a fresh take on the puzzle box and introduces a new version of Pinhead, played by Jamie Clayton. This film aims to capture the spirit of the original while offering new, terrifying elements for modern audiences.

Stephen King's Carrie is a groundbreaking horror novel, focusing on a high school girl with telekinetic powers who endures relentless bullying and abuse. The terrifying blood-soaked climax of her story has become an iconic moment in horror cinema. Since its debut in 1974 as King's first novel, Carrie has been adapted multiple times into films, making it a significant cultural touchstone in the horror genre.

Below is a guide on how to watch all the Carrie movies in order of release. Our streaming guide also shows all the platforms where you can watch, buy or rent these movies online.

How to watch the Carrie movies in chronological order

    Original series

    TV movie remake

    Remake

The original Carrie is a classic, directed by Brian De Palma. Released in 1976, it remains one of the most celebrated horror films of all time. Sissy Spacek stars as Carrie White, a shy, abused teenager whose discovery of her telekinetic powers coincides with her horrific treatment at school and home. Piper Laurie plays her fanatically religious mother.

The film culminates in the unforgettable prom night massacre, which cemented Carrie’s place in horror history. Both Spacek and Laurie earned Oscar nominations for their performances, a rarity for a horror film.

A belated sequel to the original, The Rage: Carrie 2 was released in 1999, 23 years after the original film. The movie focuses on Rachel Lang, another telekinetic high schooler who struggles with similar bullying and abuse. Rachel is revealed to be Carrie’s half-sister, connecting the film to the original.

In 2002, a made-for-TV version of Carrie premiered and served as a more faithful adaptation of King’s novel compared to De Palma’s iconic film. Directed by David Carson, this version stars Angela Bettis as Carrie White and Patricia Clarkson as her mother, Margaret. The 2002 adaptation is known for its attempt to adapt the book's epistolary format, using police reports and interviews to frame the events. While it doesn’t surpass the original, Bettis’ performance was praised, and the film serves as an alternative take on the Carrie story.

The Carrie story later received a modern-day retelling in 2013, with Chloë Grace Moretz starring as the title character and Julianne Moore playing her abusive mother. Directed by Kimberly Peirce, this remake follows the original story fairly closely but introduces modern elements, such as social media, into Carrie’s bullying experiences.

While it didn’t achieve the same acclaim as the 1976 version, it attempted to update the story for a new generation, and Moore’s portrayal of Margaret White was particularly well-received.

Dario Argento’s surreal Italian drama Suspiria is an all-time horror classic, combining surreal visuals, intense atmosphere, and nightmarish storytelling. Kickstarting Argento’s loosely-connected “Three Mothers Trilogy”, the film also received a 2018 remake that brought new life to the concept.

Here’s a guide to watching the Suspiria movies in order, from Argento’s classic to the modern reimagining. We also provide you with offers to stream these movies online in India.

How to watch the Suspiria movies in chronological order

    Three Mothers Trilogy

    Remake

The original Suspiria is widely regarded as a masterpiece of horror. Directed by Dario Argento, this visually stunning film is set at a prestigious ballet school in Germany. The story follows Suzy Bannion (Jessica Harper), an American dancer who transfers to the academy, only to uncover a series of grisly murders and dark supernatural forces at play.

What makes Suspiria so unique is its dreamlike atmosphere, heavily stylized cinematography, and the use of vivid color, especially the striking use of red and blue lighting. The score by prog-rock band Goblin adds to the sense of unease and dread throughout the film.

Inferno is the second film in what would become known as Argento’s “Three Mothers Trilogy.” This installment focuses on the concept of three ancient witches, or “Mothers,” who rule different parts of the world. While Inferno shifts its focus away from Suspiria’s ballet school setting, it maintains the supernatural elements, mysterious deaths, and stylistic flourishes that made the first film so memorable.

Nearly three decades after Inferno, Dario Argento completed his “Three Mothers Trilogy” with The Mother of Tears. This film shifts to Rome, where the third and most powerful witch, Mater Lachrymarum, is awakened, causing chaos and death across the city. The protagonist, Sarah Mandy (Asia Argento), must confront the ancient evil to stop the witch's rampage.

In 2018, Luca Guadagnino remade the 1977 classic, yet again titled Suspiria. This Amazon Prime Video original is not so much a direct remake of the 1977 film as it is a reimagining. While it shares the basic premise of a dancer named Susie Bannion (Dakota Johnson) joining a mysterious dance academy, the 2018 version is a more complex and grounded film. It delves deeper into the history of the witches and the dark rituals at the heart of the school. Tilda Swinton plays multiple roles, including Madame Blanc and the malevolent Helena Markos.

Guadagnino’s Suspiria is more subdued in its color palette than Argento’s vibrant original, but it’s no less visually striking. The film focuses more on psychological horror and has a slower pace, while also introducing themes of political unrest and personal identity. Thom Yorke of Radiohead composed the haunting score, which adds to the eerie, unsettling atmosphere.

The 2018 Suspiria is a standalone film that does not directly tie into Argento’s trilogy, instead serving as a reimagining of the original film’s concept. It can be watched on its own without prior knowledge of the earlier films, making it accessible to both new audiences and fans of the classic.

The original Addams Family television series aired in black and white for two seasons in the mid-1960s. This is where most fans were introduced to the classic lineup of characters, including Gomez, Morticia, Wednesday, Pugsley, Uncle Fester, and Lurch.  Over a decade after the original series ended, most of the cast reunited for the made-for-TV special Halloween with the New Addams Family.

Then comes the 1991 Addams Family movie, a remake that is perhaps the most iconic adaptation of the franchise, featuring Raul Julia as Gomez and Anjelica Huston as Morticia. The film follows the family's attempts to reclaim their wealth while dealing with an impostor claiming to be long-lost Uncle Fester. Addams Family Values, the sequel to the 1991 film, further explores the eccentric family dynamics as Gomez and Morticia welcome a new baby.

The 1990s also witnessed a made-for-TV movie called Addams Family Reunion that features an entirely new cast, with Tim Curry as Gomez and Daryl Hannah as Morticia. Addams Family Reunion centers on the family attending a reunion, only to discover that they're stuck with a "normal" branch of the family.

In the same decade, the TV reboot The New Addams Family ran for two seasons in the late 1990s. This series featured a fresh cast but stayed true to the humor and charm of the original, while introducing new storylines and antics for the family to get into.

In 2019, the Addams Family returned to the big screen in an animated format. With voices by Oscar Isaac as Gomez and Charlize Theron as Morticia, The Addams Family movie offers a fresh, family-friendly take on the classic characters.  The sequel to the 2019 animated film, The Addams Family 2, follows the family as they embark on a road trip across the United States.

But perhaps the most successful Addams Family reboot is the Netflix original Wednesday that focuses on the Addams' teenage daughter, Wednesday Addams (played by Jenna Ortega). This show blends supernatural mystery and coming-of-age elements as Wednesday navigates her life at Nevermore Academy. Directed by Tim Burton, the series became a hit thanks to its dark humor and deep dive into Wednesday’s character while keeping the spirit of the Addams Family alive.

The Child's Play franchise has cemented its place as one of the most iconic horror series, thanks to the unforgettable villain, Chucky— a possessed doll brought to life by a killer's soul. Since its debut in 1988, the series has spanned several sequels, a reboot, and a television series, blending horror, dark humor, and a unique take on supernatural slasher films.

If you're ready to dive into the world of Chucky, here’s how to watch the Child’s Play movies and series in order. Our guide also shows you how you can watch them all streaming online in India.

How to watch Child’s Play in chronological order

    Reboot

The 1988 original Child’s Play introduces us to Charles Lee Ray, a serial killer who uses voodoo to transfer his soul into a Good Guy doll to escape death. The doll, Chucky, is soon discovered by a young boy named Andy, leading to a series of horrifying events as Chucky attempts to possess the boy. Directed by Tom Holland (no, not Spider-Man), this original film is essential for understanding the origins of Chucky.

Child’s Play 2 is set two years later and follows Andy, now in foster care, as he once again faces the terror of Chucky. The doll is rebuilt by the toy company to cover up the events of the first film, but Chucky’s relentless pursuit of Andy continues.

In Child’s Play 3, Andy is now a teenager in military school. However, Chucky once again returns, still determined to transfer his soul into Andy's body.

After a seven-year break, Chucky returns with a twist. Bride of Chucky introduces Tiffany, Chucky’s former lover, who brings him back to life. This film leans more heavily into dark comedy, giving the franchise a fresh new tone while still delivering plenty of bloodshed.

Seed of Chucky takes the comedic elements even further, following Chucky and Tiffany's child, Glen/Glenda, who resurrects their parents.

After several comedic films, Curse of Chucky brings the franchise back to its horror roots. The film introduces Nica Pierce, a woman in a wheelchair who becomes Chucky’s next target.

Cult of Chucky takes the mythology of the series even further by introducing multiple Chucky dolls, all possessed by the same soul. Nica returns, and the film features the return of Andy Barclay, now an adult, who continues to battle his old nemesis.

The Chucky TV series picks up after the events of Cult of Chucky, following a new group of characters in a small town as they uncover the deadly history of the possessed doll. The series also revisits older characters like Tiffany, Andy, and Nica.

The 2019 Child's Play reboot reimagines Chucky for a modern audience, replacing the voodoo possession with a malfunctioning AI doll. While this film is not connected to the mainline series, it offers an interesting take on the killer doll concept, with Mark Hamill lending his voice to Chucky.

An urban legend says that whoever watches this video-tape will die a miserable and mysterious death at the mercy of a vengeful ghost in exactly seven days. Would your curiosity nudge you to watch the tape? Based on the simple but gripping premise of a serial killing ghost hunting down humans that let their curiosity get the better of themselves, The Ring, sparked a new wave of terror and suspense in J-Horror, and inspired a whole new genre of supernatural-horror films worldwide. Use our guide below on how to watch all movies in The Ring franchise and where to find them streaming online using platforms like Netflix, Prime Video and more.

The franchise officially began with Koji Suzuki’s 1991 novel Ring. It was the first of a trilogy, and was followed by Spiral, and Loop. The novel was first adapted to film in 1998 by Hideo Nakata, after the trilogy was officially released. The movie was an instant commercial and critical success, and marked the beginning of a very lucrative J-Horror film franchise that extended to 13 films across different languages.

The Ring franchise includes 9 Japanese films, 3 American movies, and 1 Korean adaptation. While the core premise of the story remains the same, each version offers a different cultural and cinematic experience on the legend of Sadaku or Samara.

For those looking to dive into the world of The Ring, the order in which you watch the films can greatly influence your experience. We’ll separate the films based on their language to make it easier to follow each version’s unique storyline and evolution.

The chronological order for Japanese Ring films

If you want to get deep into the Ring franchise consider starting with the original Japanese Ring movies. With nine movies under their belt, the franchise explores Sadako’s curse and the story to its fullest, staying closest to Suzuki’s novels. Here’s the chronological order to watch all the Japanese movies:

    Ringu 0: Birthday

A prequel to the original Ring series, this film focuses on Sadako’s backstory, and highlights the terrible and tragic events in her life that led to her becoming a cursed spirit.

    Ringu

The first movie in the original trilogy, the film introduces the premise of the cursed videotape, and the story of Sadako.

    Rasen

Released at the same time as Ringu, the sequel follows the story of Suzuki’s second novel, Spiral. However, this film is often overlooked as it wasn’t received well at the time of its release, and was overshadowed by Ringu 2.

    Ringu 2

An alternate and more popular sequel to The Ring, Ringu 2, strays from the story of the books and directly continues from where the first movie left off.

    Ringu: Kanzenban

Kanzenban loosely translates to "the complete version." While not nearly as popular as the 1998 film Ringu, Ringu: Kanzenban is a direct-to-TV movie that closely follows the original story from Koji Suzuki’s book, making only very slight changes to the source material. Although this was the first release in the franchise, it makes more sense to place it here in the list, as it isn’t as widely recognized or iconic as the later films.

    Sadako 3D

Set years after the events of Ringu, this film marked the revival of the Ring franchise. The film explores the effect of the Ring curse in the viral internet era society.

    Sadako 3D 2

The film continues the events of Sadako 3D, and explores how the curse affects a new generation of people in the digital age.

    Sadako vs Kayako

The Ring served as a direct inspiration for The Grudge. Sadako vs Kayako is non-canonical but a pretty entertaining mash-up pitting Sadako against Kayako, the ghost from Grudge.

    Sadako (2019)

The most recent entry in the series, Sadako further explores her origins and the continued spread of the curse.

The chronological order for the American films

The American films are much simpler and direct to follow, as the watch order and release order for the films is the same, making it easier for fans to enjoy the story without worrying too much about shifting timelines or prequels. Here’s the correct order to watch the American Ring movies:

    The Korean Remake

In addition to the Japanese and American films, the series also includes one Korean remake titled, The Ring Virus. Released in 1999, the film is a direct adaptation of the original Japanese Ringu, taking inspiration from both the Japanese and American versions while introducing its own distinct Korean flair.

    Original Romero franchise

    Standalone remakes

The 1968 original is from where it all began. A group of people trapped in a farmhouse fights to survive the night as zombies surround them. The film doesn’t explain why the dead have risen but established many of the zombie tropes still used today.

In Dawn of the Dead, the outbreak has spread, and society begins to collapse. Survivors take refuge in a shopping mall, offering a satirical take on consumer culture amid the apocalypse.

Day of the Dead is set in an underground bunker. The last remnants of humanity attempt to find a cure while tensions rise between scientists and military personnel. This entry delves into the evolving relationship between humans and zombies.

Moving on to the 2000s, Land of the Dead takes place in a future where the wealthy live in a fortified city while the rest of society grapples with the zombie threat. The undead begin to exhibit signs of intelligence.

Set at the beginning of the outbreak, Diary of the Dead (2007) follows a group of student filmmakers who document the chaos around them in a found-footage style. It acts as a reboot and commentary on the media.

A group of soldiers from Diary of the Dead then pop up in Survival of the Dead (2009), encountering feuding families on an island as they debate what to do with the undead.

Whether you watch the Living Dead movies chronologically or by release order, the franchise remains a fascinating examination of human nature under pressure and the enduring horror of a world overrun by the undead.

The Mummy franchise is a blend of horror, adventure, and action, featuring ancient Egyptian curses, thrilling archaeology, and unforgettable characters. The series has been rebooted multiple times, beginning with Universal's original monster movie, which eventually evolved into various interpretations, from Brendan Fraser's beloved 1999 adaptation to Tom Cruise's modern-day reboot.

Read on to learn more about The Mummy movies and find out where to stream all the movies online in India!

How to watch The Mummy movies in chronological order

If you want to experience the narrative based on events in the films, here’s how you should watch The Mummy films.

    The Mummy (Universal series)

    The Mummy (Hammer series)

    The Mummy (modern reboot series)

    The Mummy (Dark Universe)

The first-ever Mummy film was the 1932 black-and-white classic The Mummy. Starring Frankenstein actor Boris Karloff as Imhotep, an Egyptian mummy who is resurrected back to life as a team of archaeologists tinker with his tomb. The success of this film led to five more sequels by Universal Studios with the final one being a horror comedy crossover with the comedic duo Abbott and Costello.

Like Frankenstein and Dracula, the British horror studio Hammer also sought to remake The Mummy with a 1959 color remake starring Christopher Lee as the titular villain. This film too was a success and spawned three more indirect sequels.

The most popular Mummy franchise, however, began in 1999 with the Brendan Fraser adventure The Mummy. While it’s followed by two direct sequels The Mummy Returns and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, it’s also preceded by the Scorpion King franchise which is set in the times of ancient Egypt. The character of the Scorpion King was first played by wrestler-turned-actor Dwayne Johnson in The Mummy Returns, with Johnson reprising his role in the origin film The Scorpion King. There were four more Scorpion films with Rise of a Warrior documenting his younger years and the other three continuing his legacy (but with other actors replacing Johnson).

In 2017, Universal attempted to reboot The Mummy franchise yet again with a new treatment starring Tom Cruise. But the film flopped at the box-office and all plans of a sequel got scrapped soon after. The 2017 reboot can be watched as a standalone movie.

  • How to Watch the Poltergeist Movies in Order
    Shaurya Singh Thapa

    Shaurya Singh Thapa

    JustWatch Editor

The Poltergeist series, which began with the 1982 classic directed by Tobe Hooper and produced by Steven Spielberg, has left a significant mark on supernatural horror. The story focuses on a suburban family haunted by malevolent spirits, particularly centering around the youngest daughter, Carol Anne. The franchise is known for its eerie imagery, memorable performances, and blending of ghost stories with commentary on modern family life. Here’s how to watch the Poltergeist movies in order and find out where to stream them in India.

How to watch the Poltergeist movies in chronological order

The Poltergeist movies are fairly simple to watch in the sense that they can be watched in the same order as their release date. Each of the three movies are easily numbered, making the franchise much less confusing than other horror classics like Halloween or The Exorcist.

In 2015, the first film received a remake which can be watched as a standalone film.

    Remake

The original movie introduces the Freeling family, whose lives are disrupted by ghosts when their home becomes the target of supernatural forces. Carol Anne, the youngest daughter, is abducted into a spiritual dimension, and her family must rescue her with the help of paranormal investigators. The film is known for its mix of family drama and horror, as well as its iconic line, "They're here."

Set a year after the events of the first film, the Freeling family is once again plagued by supernatural forces. This time, the spirits are led by Reverend Kane, a malevolent ghost who seeks to capture Carol Anne. The film expands on the mythology of the ghosts and delves into the history of the haunted land on which their home was built.

In the third installment, Carol Anne moves in with relatives in a high-rise apartment building, but the spirits continue to pursue her. The film takes the haunting into an urban setting and marks the final appearance of Carol Anne as the central figure of the franchise.

The 2015 reboot reimagines the original story with a modern setting, focusing on a new family haunted by poltergeists. While the basic premise remains similar to the 1982 version, the remake incorporates updated special effects and technology but is often seen as a more straightforward horror film compared to the subtle, emotional layers of the original.

Watching the Poltergeist movies in order is a journey through horror history. The original trilogy stands as a benchmark of supernatural cinema, while the 2015 remake offers a modern take on the haunting tale.
