The MCU’s X-Men Cast Confirmed: Here’s Where You Know Each Actor From
The X-Men are coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and now we know who will actually be playing them. Confirmed at D23 2026, X-Men is set to come out in 2028 with Thunderbolts* (2025) director Jake Schreier at the helm. While it’s unclear what shape or form the film will really take, the fact that it’s coming out after Avengers: Secret Wars (2027) suggests that it will be a key entry in directing the MCU going forward.
This is a big deal, as the previous X-Men characters brought into the live-action franchise have been deliberately pulled from older iterations of the characters. To celebrate the announcement, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige introduced the main cast of the film to the audience at D23. Here’s every major X-Men casting update that’s been confirmed and where you’ve seen those performers before.
Christopher Abbott - Prof. Charles Xavier
Taking the role that has been previously played in live-action by Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy, Christopher Abbott is set to play the MCU’s version of Professor Charles Xavier. Breaking out as a recurring character in Girls (2012), Abbott has proven himself a sly dramatic actor who can reveal new layers in everything from operatic dramas like Poor Things (2023) to bigger genre fare like Wolf Man (2025).
This isn't even Abbott's first Marvel gig, as he previously played the Foreigner in Kraven the Hunter (2024). Abbott's casting as the X-Men's mentor suggests less of a striking age gap between the telepath and his initial batch of students than what most fans are used to, which is actually a quietly comic-accurate take on the character. Xavier is a key member of the X-Men mythos and is prone to more ruthless actions in the comics, making the casting of Abbott all the more compelling, given his history of tackling complex characters.
Sadie Sink - Jean Grey
One of the founding X-Men in the original comics and one of the universe’s most powerful telepaths, Jean Grey’s introduction in Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026) was the first true step towards the MCU X-Men. Finding her big break on Stranger Things (2016) as the prickly but loyal Max, Sink has increasingly expanded her dramatic acting chops in movies like The Whale (2022) and Fear Street Part 2: 1978 (2021).
Sink’s version of Jean in Brand New Day has already been established as a self-righteous and emotionally driven young woman, willing to fight government operations and superheroes if it means being reunited with her loved ones. Given her connection to Spider-Man, Jean will serve as an ideal connective point between the mutant team and the larger universe.
Kit Connor - Cyclops
After a week of rumors, Kit Connor was officially announced as the next actor to play Scott Summers, aka Cyclops, at D23 2026. James Marsden played the character in the Fox X-Men movies—as well as the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday (2026)—while Tye Sheridan played him in X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) and Dark Phoenix (2019). The field leader of the X-Men, Cyclops approaches the battle to protect mutants and the world at large with a soldier’s perspective and his never-ending optic blasts.
Kit Connor proved his wartime skills in Warfare (2025), while his romantic turn in Heartstopper (2022) makes him an ideal actor for a character who often finds himself in love triangles involving characters like Jean Grey and Emma Frost. Connor is also playing the lead in the upcoming Elden Ring (2028) adaptation, with the one-two punch of the fantasy epic and the Marvel film potentially elevating his star power immensely.
Inde Navarrette - Rogue
Rogue is a fan favorite member of the X-Men, with the ability to touch someone and steal aspects of their identity or abilities. Lacking control over these powers, Rogue can be depicted as the scared young woman Anna Paquin played in X-Men (2000) or as the bombastic powerhouse of something like X-Men ‘97 (2024). Rogue will be played by Inde Navarrette in the new film, which follows up on her breakout turn in Obsession (2026).
That ability to play someone trying to break free of their own body and psyche is a good pick for Navarrette. In fact, given how the comics eventually seriously powered up Rogue by having her drain too much power from Captain Marvel, Navarrette’s version of the character could become a crucial figure in that corner of the MCU as well.
Maya Boyd - Storm
Despite the ambitions of plenty of actresses to play Ororo Munroe aka Storm, the role ended up going to Maya Boyd. This will actually be Boyd's feature film debut, as she's been primarily a stage actress up to this point. She made her Broadway debut in Merrily We Roll Along and gained more prominence after taking over the role of Juliet in the breakout hit, & Juliet. Storm is one of the most iconic and culturally significant members of the X-Men, an Omega-Level weather manipulator and natural leader who has actually come to blows with Cyclops and Xavier in the past.
Halle Berry and Alexandra Shipp have previously played the character, but ideally she'll get the chance to be a more prominent character in the MCU. There's also the question of her dynamic with her occasional love interest, Black Panther, especially now that Black Panther 3 (2028) is set to introduce T'Challa's son at a time when he could easily meet Ororo.
Samara Weaving - Emma Frost
A modern Scream Queen in every sense of the word, Samara Weaving’s casting as Emma Frost aka the White Queen, is a very exciting development for X-Men. The Australian actress has been great in genre fare like Ready or Not (2019) and Eenie Meanie (2025), adding a strong emotional core to tough and cutting women. Emma Frost is one of the X-Men’s most complex characters, despite the forgettable version that appeared in X-Men: First Class (2011).
A wealthy telepath and rival teacher to Charles Xavier, her place in the Hellfire Club initially set her up as a major villain. However, her commitment to her students—and the trauma of losing so many of them to the cruelties of the world—eventually pushed her more and more into the orbit of the X-Men. It’s unclear right now how the MCU will play with the character, but there’s a lot that can be done with it, especially with someone like Weaving in the role.
Adam Driver - Mister Sinister
The villain of X-Men seems to be Mister Sinister, given that Adam Driver has been confirmed to be playing one of the evil scientists’ identities of Nathaniel Milbury. Mister Sinister was born in Victorian England and became obsessed with mutants—eventually making a deal with the immortal villain Apocalypse to extend his life so he could continue his experiments. The modern Sinister is an ideal villain for the MCU, a thematically weighty character who can quickly shift from entertainingly campy to genuinely scary.
It’s also an ideal role for Adam Driver, whose experience in shows like Saturday Night Live (1975) and movies such as Logan Lucky (2017) highlights the comedic touches that he can use to break up his dramatic turns. His performance as Kylo Ren/Ben Solo in the modern Star Wars films underscores his confidence in heading a major franchise as well, making this perfect casting for what could become a major MCU threat.
