'From' Season 4 Ending, Explained: Who Makes It Out Alive?
This article contains major spoilers for the From Season 4 finale.
When the sci-fi horror series From premiered in 2022, it introduced us to a town that traps unsuspecting travelers within its boundaries. To make matters worse, they are tormented by murderous monsters that come out at night. Fortunately, the community has former military officer Boyd Stevens (Harold Perrineau) and Donna Raines (Elizabeth Saunders) to help maintain order and keep them safe.
By Season 4, the town is no longer just a place people are stuck in. It feels more like an entity that reacts to everything the residents do. Episode 9, "The Calm Before," ended with their plan to retrieve the bones of the dead children in motion. The Bottle Tree is tied up and ready to be pulled from the ground, while Tabitha (Catalina Sandino Moreno) and Jade (David Alpay) go into the tunnels.
The From Season 4 finale, "If a Tree Falls in the Forest...", splits between what's happening above ground and what is happening beneath the town. Boyd and the others use a truck to pull the Bottle Tree out of the ground. At the same time, Tabitha and Jade successfully dig up the bones. And for a short time, it looks like the plan might actually work.
But when the tree is pulled up, the sky turns dark in the middle of the day, and the monsters are able to move around freely, just as they do at night. Boyd tries to get Tabitha and Jade out by lowering a rope ladder into the tunnels. But since Sophia (Julia Doyle) sabotaged the rope, it breaks, causing Tabitha to fall. That's when the entire chamber slowly starts to collapse, trapping Jade and Tabitha inside.
Does Everyone Survive The 'From' Season 4 Finale?

Unfortunately, not everyone makes it out of the Season 4 finale in one piece. Elgin (Nathan D. Simmons) dies after refusing to team up with Sophia, who is really the Man in Yellow. His death is quick and doesn't leave much room for reversal or ambiguity. Marielle (Kaelen Ohm) also dies after the Smiley monster (Jamie McGuire) gets into the clinic.
Influenced by the visions he's been experiencing, Henry (Robert Joy) finds a gun in Boyd's office and almost kills Victor (Scott McCord) with it. The only reason his plan fails is that Ethan (Simon Webster) unexpectedly shows up before anything happens. As a result, Victor is able to subdue his father, which is where their From Season 4 arc ends.
After realizing that Jade and Tabitha are alive in the chamber, Boyd, Ellis (Corteon Moore), and Fatima (Pegah Ghafoori) head inside to save them. Fatima, who's developed a connection with the monsters since giving birth to one in Season 3, functions as the group's only source of protection since she is able to sense when they are close.
As the monsters approach, Fatima realizes that the only way she can save everyone is by embracing her fate. She tearfully asks Ellis to remember who she used to be and transforms into one of the monsters, complete with a contorted face and scary, giant teeth. Fatima holds off the creatures, and the episode ends without offering any hint as to whether her transformation is permanent.
What The Ending Means For 'From' Season 5?

From has already been renewed for a fifth and final season. Speaking to TV Insider, creator John Griffin explained how the events of the Season 4 finale will affect the final installment. "The goal of Season 4 was to really make sure the audience understood, we have entered a new phase, our characters have crossed the Rubicon, and from here on out, for better or for worse, this is the endgame," he said.
"That's about as specific as I personally can be without giving anything away," Griffin added. His comments also line up with what executive producer Jeff Pinkner told TV Insider about the show's long-term plan. Rather than saving every answer for the series finale, the writers have always been more interested in exploring what those answers cost the characters.
"If it's just about getting answers, why are we here? What is this place? Those kinds of answers, in our opinion, the audience satisfaction is more in the journey of the characters, and once they have their answers, what are the consequences of the answers, and what can you do about it? It felt like where we wanted to locate our story and our emotion," Pinkner explained.
That philosophy is all over the From Season 4 finale. According to RadioTimes, From Season 5 will begin filming in Halifax, Nova Scotia, in the latter half of 2026. The final installment is scheduled to air on MGM+ in 2027.
