Evil Dead Burn (2026) marks the return to a franchise with multiple films, a TV series, comics, and even books. For this iteration, director Sébastien Vanicek created a standalone movie centered on a woman seeking solace with her in-laws after the loss of her husband. And as we saw in the teaser trailer, evil isn’t far behind as the woman wakes up to a destroyed home and deadites attacking.

Hitting theaters on July 10, 2026, Evil Dead Burn is produced by Sam Raimi. It is the sixth entry in the franchise following Lee Cronin’s 2023 film Evil Dead Rise. Cronin himself will also executive produce alongside the OG Evil Dead icon Bruce Campbell, who starred in the 1981 classic The Evil Dead

But what is Evil Dead Burn about, and how does it connect to the franchise itself? We break it all down.

What Is ‘Evil Dead Burn’ About?

Evil Dead Burn tells the story of Alice, played by Souheila Yacoub. After the loss of her husband, she joins her in-laws in their secluded family home. This reunion turns into a nightmare when her in-laws start turning into deadites. According to the synopsis: She comes to discover that the vows she took in life… live on even in death.

In the official teaser trailer, Alice regains consciousness in a grey and dilapidated-looking home. Ears ringing and blood on her face, she tries to orient herself. Suddenly, two bodies crash next to her, growling and gripping at each other. Alice then begins to crawl away as deadites attack her in-laws. The trailer ends with her leaning against a banister as the attack continues.

From the trailer alone, Vanicek’s filming style promises a gritty and dark entry, similar to Evil Dead Rise. But it also reflects the director’s own style of heart-pounding moments that know how to use space and framing of the character to terrify you like his 2023 film Infested. In addition, this is the first time in the Evil Dead franchise that we’re in a single-family home instead of a cabin or apartment complex.

How Does ‘Evil Dead Burn’ Connect To The Larger Franchise?

At the moment, Evil Dead Burn is a standalone movie within the Evil Dead franchise. It’s not connected to the OG movie The Evil Dead, Evil Dead II (1987), Army of Darkness (1992), Evil Dead (2013), Evil Dead Rise, or the TV series Ash vs Evil Dead (2015). It’s also not connected to Evil Dead Wrath, which is expected to release in 2028 as another standalone film.

No confirmed connections haven’t stopped fans from theorizing on how Evil Dead Burn could be connected to the main Evil Dead franchise, though. One prevalent theory is that the home of Alice’s in-laws is actually Ruby’s from Ash vs Evil Dead Season 3. Ruby was a Dark One and author of the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis, aka the Book of the Dead. For fans of the show, they clocked that Evil Dead Burn uses the same set in the teaser trailer. But that immediately runs into some problems because STARZ owns Ash vs Evil Dead. So, unless it struck some sort of deal with franchise rights holder Raimi, Campbell, and Rob Tapert, it could just be a happy coincidence.

If using Ruby’s house is an intentional choice by Evil Dead Burn, it could be a subtle way to connect the newer movies together beyond the deadites and the concept of places remembering the darkness that lived there. But again, we only have a teaser trailer. A full trailer could hint at more ways this movie could connect to the other movies in the franchise.

‘Evil Dead Burn’ Gives Us The Scariest Deadites Yet

Even though we only have a teaser trailer, the deadites in Evil Dead Burn feel like the scariest yet. At their core, deadites have always been agents of chaos that terrorize humans. And since the OG film in 1981, they have possessed the living, the dead, and even a mighty hand. They can disguise themselves as your loved ones, remember the memories of the possessed, and transform into hideous creatures.

Evil Dead Burn elevates everything we’ve come to fear about the deadites by making them faceless monsters. The entire teaser trailer focuses on Alice’s fear as attacks go on around her; the deadites’ faces are in shadow as they drag a woman away, throw someone down some stairs, and then chase them down. This is a tonal shift from both teaser trailers for the 2013 Evil Dead and Evil Dead Rise, which showed the deadites’ faces and made them the thing you fear from the jump.

In addition, there’s the hint in the synopsis to take into consideration. While visiting her in-laws, Alice discovers that the vows she took in life live on even in death. This isn’t random. This is a deliberate clue that her husband will return in some form. But what if that form is a deadite? It would be interesting to see whether it’s love or hate that fueled him to find a way back to the land of the living.

The Evil Dead franchise is no stranger to deadites possessing family members and having them kill their loved ones. You can tell from the teaser trailer for Evil Dead Burn that this film follows that time-honored tradition. It would be an interesting take to see a deadite have a connection with the lead character, grounded in marriage and the motivations that lead you to destroy your own family to confront your wife.

After the loss of her husband, a woman seeks solace with her in-laws in their secluded family home. As one by one they are transformed into Deadites—turning the gathering into a family reunion from hell—she comes to discover that the vows she took in life... live on even in death.
