The Undervale Hotel in Haunted Hotel (2025) has plenty of ghosts. There’s Stabby Paul, Angela, Randy, and Annabelle. But the most mysterious, and my personal favorite, is Candle Head. And believe it or not, this candle-loving ghost gets some interesting development in Season 2.

To refresh your memory and catch you up on what happened in Haunted Hotel Season 2, I’m going to explain who Candle Head is. But I’m also going to break down his powers, whether “candles” is the only thing he can say, and what we know about his untimely death in the Netflix animated series.

Who Is Candle Head?

Candle Head is a resident ghost at the Undervale Hotel. He haunts room 214 and wears a red cardigan with a white shirt, brown slacks, and dark loafers. As the name implies, he loves candles. They’re all over his room, and a giant one sits on his head with wax dripping down his back. His eyes are also a hollow void with flames inside.

As for how Candle Head speaks, he often just replies to anything and everything with the word “candles” or “candle.” But when first introduced in Haunted Hotel, he said, “I need more candles!” And in Season 2, he also recited the ghost support group motto. So it seems like a choice to only say “candles” since it’s the thing he loves the most in life and in the afterlife.

What Are Candle Head's Powers?

Candle Head’s powers involve fire, specifically pyrokinesis. While he often worships candles and is docile, he can also erupt, with his flames getting a little out of control and bursting forward from his eyes. Candle Head can also walk through walls like other ghosts and can attack and overpower demons if need be.

Another thing to note about Candle Head’s love for candles is that he uses the candle on his head to light other candles. Katherine feeds into that by putting scented candles in the lobby, as seen in Haunted Hotel Season 2. He also seems to have telekinesis, at least when it comes to candles. In Season 2, Candle Head holds an antique candle holder, takes the scented candle from the lobby, and throws a two-person party with Stabby Paul in Haunted Hotel’s intro, with things flying around them.

What 'Haunted Hotel' Season 2 Revealed About Candle Head

The two major things that we learn about Candle Head in Haunted Hotel Season 2 are that he’s part of a support group and he has a girlfriend.

In Episode 3, “The Witch,” Shayna invites Nathan to a support group, where Candle Head is also a member, even though he only says “candles” most of the time. When the members of the support group need comfort, his “candles” are changed by the inflection of his voice and eyes, similar to the way that Groot communicates in Guardians of the Galaxy (2014).

In Episode 2, “Dinner Party,” Ben throws a dinner party for Annabelle. She introduces Nathan to Gert, her oldest and quietest friend in the afterlife. Nathan tries to impress her, but in the time that he spends away from her, she gets to know Candle Head. By the end of the episode, they walk away arm in arm. Then, at the end of Episode 8, “The Visit,” Candle Head and Gert are holding hands, confirming their romance has lasted.

How Did Candle Head Die?

At the time of writing, we don’t know how Candle Head died in Haunted Hotel. Of course, from his physical appearance, we can infer that candle fire or candle wax caused his death. The fact that he’s a ghost in the Undervale Hotel also means that there had to be some sort of incident in Room 214 instead of him falling into a huge vat of candle wax somewhere.

There’s something else to take into consideration when it comes to his death. If we infer that candle wax killed him, then there has to be some messy feelings when it comes to his continued love for candles. Considering he’s in a support group with the ghosts (and Shayna), it suggests that he’s conscious enough to feel pain from his death and/or existence.

So if Haunted Hotel gets a Season 3, Candle Head absolutely needs a flashback revealing more information about his life and death.
