After nearly 20 years, we are still a while away from re-entering the ancient tomb of Imhotep with The Mummy 4.

Set to release on October 15, 2027, this franchise comeback will see the return of much of the beloved cast from the first three instalments.

Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, John Hannah, and even Kevin J. O’Connor’s presumed-dead Beni Gabor will make an exciting comeback; and there are some interesting new additions to the cast, too — not least Obsession star Michael Johnston in an as-yet unknown role.

Since we’ve still got what feels like a cursed eternity to kill before the film is released, let’s dive into all the cast members returning for The Mummy 4, and see what they’ve been up to since the crypt closed in 2008. We’ll also welcome the newcomers and speculate about what roles they might be playing.

Brendan Fraser

The Mummy franchise simply would not be the same without Brendan Fraser. The nearly 60-year-old actor has gone through quite the career resurgence since he first starred as the floppy-haired treasure hunter Rick O'Connell in The Mummy.

From the early 1990s to the early 2000s, Fraser starred in a number of comedies, including George of the Jungle, Dudley Do-Right, and of course the first three Mummy instalments. But personal factors caused him to drop off the Hollywood map for many years until 2022, when he came back with a knockout performance in Darren Aronofsky’s gut-wrenching drama The Whale, for which he won a Best Actor Oscar.

Now comfortably settled within the industry again, Fraser seems to be measuring his roles carefully, creating a new reputation as a leading man for films with quirky plots — like 2025’s Rental Family, in which he plays an actor hired to take on a role in a real family’s life — delivering deeply compassionate performances.

Rachel Weisz

Rachel Weisz’s Egyptologist Evelyn Carnahan is the second big pillar holding up a successful revival of The Mummy. Together, Evy and Rick succeeded in taking down Imhotep (twice!), falling in love, and raising a child — all while still keeping their adventurous spirits alive.

Weisz is known for her Oscar-worthy roles in The Constant Gardener and The Favourite. In addition, she also starred in the Jason Bourne films, Aronofsky’s The Fountain, dramas The Deep Blue Sea and Denial, and most recently was nominated for her leading role in the television adaptation of Cronenberg’s Dead Ringers, in which she plays twin gynaecologists Beverly and Elliot Mantle.

John Hannah

John Hannah in The Mummy

Delightfully, John Hannah’s Jonathan Carnahan will also be returning in The Mummy 4. In the films, Jonathan is Evy’s older brother, and although he’s not quite as ruggedly charismatic or capable as Rick, he has useful street smarts and a very handy knowledge of ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics.

Apart from the Mummy franchise, John Hannah is known for his BAFTA-nominated performance as Matthew in 1994’s Four Weddings and a Funeral. He also appeared opposite Gwyneth Paltrow in the 1998 classic Sliding Doors, starred in series like McCallum and Rebus, and most recently appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as Dr Holden Radcliffe.

Kevin J. O’Connor

Kevin J. O'Connor in The Mummy

Kevin J. O’Connor will intriguingly be back for The Mummy 4, reprising his role as Beni Gabor. As you might remember, the cowardly Beni became Imhotep’s lackey in The Mummy, only to find himself getting his just rewards when he is trapped in an underground tomb surrounded by flesh-eating scarabs. Although we don’t see him being eaten, we heard his screams as the scene closed out, and it was heavily implied he died.

However, given that O’Connor will be back for The Mummy 4 in the same role, either he somehow managed to escape or, more likely, he will be resurrected by some kind of ancient Egyptian spell.

Since The Mummy, O’Connor has largely appeared in minor roles in films like Van Helsing and, most notably, in Paul Thomas Anderson’s masterpiece There Will Be Blood, where he plays Henry Plainview opposite Daniel Day-Lewis.

Oded Fehr

Oded Fehr in The Mummy

Oded Fehr’s iconic Medjai warrior Ardeth Bay will return in The Mummy 4. I always loved his over-the-top character, face tattoos and all, for his absolute dedication to patrolling the desert to ensure no one resurrects Imhotep — which he fails at multiple times.

In addition to his appearances in both The Mummy and The Mummy Returns, Fehr is known for playing Carlos in the Resident Evil franchise, small roles in the Deuce Bigelow films, and as a Mossad agent in Covert Affairs. Most recently, he can be seen in Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Starfleet Academy as Admiral Charles Vance.

New Mummy Cast Members

Michael Johnston

Michael Johnston in Obsession

One of the most exciting new additions to The Mummy franchise is Michael Johnston. Although he’s a relative industry newcomer, he found himself under a blinding spotlight after the success of 2026’s horror film of the year, Obsession, where he stars as the film’s problematic protagonist, Bear.

Before Obsession, Johnston starred in the last two seasons of Teen Wolf as Corey Bryant, and has done quite a bit of voice acting in films, television, and video games.

Although we don’t know what role he will play in The Mummy 4, if I had to guess, I would say he’ll play Rick and Evy’s now grown-up son, Alex O'Connell. In any case, it’s encouraging to see that the creators are bringing in new talent for the next generation of Mummy fans.

Numan Acar

Numan Acar in Homeland

German-Turkish actor Numan Acar has also been confirmed to be playing an unknown role in The Mummy 4. It’s hard to tell what role Acar will play in the film, but he could be anything from a fellow archaeologist to a villain.

Apart from appearing in the series Homeland as Haissam Haqqani (Seasons 4 and 8), he also played Dimitri in Spider-Man: Far From Home and had minor parts in the 2026 series Legends and Young Sherlock.

Reboot of Universal's Mummy franchise.
