Bridgerton’s Sexiest Scenes, Ranked
When Bridgerton first came out, many likened it to a Regency era Gossip Girl. In a similar fashion to the teen drama, there was a mysterious writer with an unmatched knack of making people’s biggest secrets and scandals come to the surface. But one thing audiences didn’t expect was just how racy Bridgerton was.
For readers of the Bridgerton books, this didn’t come as much of a surprise, but arguably, it’s quite unusual for a show this sexual to reach this level of mainstream popularity. It suggests two things: firstly, sex sells. And secondly, sex is a normal part of life — so why pretend that it doesn’t exist?
Now in its fourth season, Netflix has continued to break boundaries with Bridgerton. Sex has remained an integral part of the show, with Season 4 just as spicy as ever. In celebration of this bold approach, we have ranked the ten best Bridgerton sex scenes based on how risque they are — and I hope you brought your fan, as it's about to get pretty hot in here.
10. Benedict’s Threesome
To be honest, I should probably narrow this down a bit — Benedict has multiple threesomes in the show. But the most heartstopping one is probably in the eighth episode of Season 3, where he has a threesome with Lady Tilley Arnold and Paul Suarez. It's one of the less explicit scenes in Bridgerton, but it's significant because it finally sees Benedict give into his desire for a man. In the scene, we can see his uncertainty transitioning into passion.
9. The Duke and Daphne’s Sex-a-thon
While Daphne was pretty unaware of matters regarding the marital bed, she certainly did a good job of making up for any lost time in the sixth episode of Season 1. We first witness a passionate encounter between her and the Duke outside in the rain — with the weather helping to add to the intensity — and this then transitions into a montage of them banging each other in different places, including the library and outside by a lake. The thing that really ties the scene together is the string rendition of Taylor Swift’s ‘Wildest Dreams.’
8. ‘Even Days’
Maybe I’m cheating a bit here, but Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, also has some great sex scenes. In the third episode of the series, entitled ‘Even Days,’ we see George and Charlotte have plenty of hate sex in order to try and produce an heir, with Charlotte’s justification that it is an “even day,” as the pair arranged. The dining room scene is markedly intense, but the bathtub scene adds a more dominant dynamic, with George commanding that Charlotte get in the bath. His facial expressions are firm, yet hungry.
7. Brimsley and Reynolds
Continuing with Queen Charlotte, George and Charlotte’s dedicated footmen, Brimsley and Reynolds, have a few secrets of their own. Namely, that they’re in a relationship. The second they have some rare time alone, they jump right into it in this hot-blodded scene. For the most part, the couple are immersed in the moment — but they still can’t shut up about Charlotte and George all the way through, showing their sheer dedication to their jobs. Moreover, normalising gay sex on-screen and acknowledging that there would have been gay men in the Regency era is vital for representation. As Queen Charlotte demonstrates, sex can take many forms for all kinds of people.
6. The Staircase Scene
You don’t always have to have outright sex in order for a moment to be raunchy. Case-in-point: Benedict and Sophie. Throughout the fourth season, while the odds and society were against them, Benedict and Sophie kept being drawn back to one another. Things reach a turning point in the fourth episode when, after encountering each other on the staircase, they decided to give in to their desires. In this scene, Benedict prioritises Sophie’s pleasure, and the fact they did it so indiscreetly out in the open helps that bubbling tension overspill in the most satisfying way.
5. Daphne’s Self-pleasure
As Daphne and the Duke get closer, he encourages her to touch herself in the third episode of Season 1. Up until this point, Daphne was unaware of ideas such as sex and female pleasure, but that all changes when she decides to explore herself later that night. As I’ve said, sex can come in many forms, and by including this scene, Bridgerton has removed some of the taboos around female masturbation, and proven that female pleasure doesn’t always have to be with a man. It can be an empowering experience by oneself.
4. Another Bathtub Scene
Ah, the infamous bathtub scene. This was one of the most hyped scenes ahead of Season 4, and needless to say, it didn’t disappoint. The scene, which took place in the final episode of Season 4, was a real slowburn. It started off with Benedict slowly undressing Sophie as her hair cascaded down her back, before slowly undressing himself and joining her in the bath. Overall, the scene is very tender, gentle, and loving — although the sexual tension did go up a notch when Sophie took control and pushed him to the side of the bath. The scene managed these competing dynamics very well, and it was a refreshing change to see a woman in the driving seat.
3. The Carriage Scene
The carriage scene is another iconic moment from the books that had huge hype around it. In Season 3 Episode 4, the friends-to-lovers dynamic between Colin and Penelope reaches a turning point, with Colin finally confessing his feelings. It's not long before things get passionate, with Colin pleasuring Penelope in the back of a carriage. With this scene, less is more. There’s no nudity, but the way Penelope is overcome by her feelings is palpable enough to make this scene one of the most sensual in the show. It’s also notable because Colin clearly asks for and gets consent before taking things further, which is a very important thing to show on TV. What really tops it off though is the ingenious inclusion of a string version of Pitbull’s ‘Give Me Everything.’
2. Kanthony in the Garden
Kanthony’s season will always be the best season of Bridgerton — their enemies to lovers arc is unmatched. Compared to other seasons, it is a bit more of a slow-burn. They don’t actually have sex until the penultimate episode of Season 2, which, by Bridgerton’s standards, is pretty late in the game. However, the build-up is completely and utterly worth it, with their desperate romp in the Bridgerton garden showing them pretty much devouring each other. It’s a truly tantalizing scene, and Kate’s subsequent flashbacks of their encounter make it even hotter.
1. The Mirror Scene
Usually, the carriage scene is the one that gets all the attention, but the mirror scene, in my opinion, is probably the best sex scene in the whole of Bridgerton. The sequence, which takes place between Penelope and Colin in the fifth episode of Season 3, contains all the elements of a good sex scene that are mentioned throughout this list, including the right level of passion, a slow build-up, and plenty of sensuality. Sometimes, female nudity in sex scenes can feel like it’s catering for the male gaze, but in the mirror scene, it is framed as an empowering moment for Penelope; and, by extension, for anyone who feels they don’t meet conventional beauty standards.
