All eyes were on Marvel at CinemaCon 2026 in Las Vegas when Kevin Feige, the Russo Brothers, and star duo Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. showcased the latest footage for Avengers: Doomsday. We’ve already been treated to multiple teasers earlier this year featuring Steve Rogers, Thor, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men. However, it now sounds like we’ll be getting a proper glimpse of Doctor Doom and much more when the full trailer is released. Unless you were lucky enough to attend CinemaCon, you’ll have to wait. But we can explain exactly what unfolds in the new Doomsday footage.

Professor Charles Xavier Senses Doom

The trailer starts with a shot of Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom in his iconic green hood and metal mask. Discussing the new big bad of the MCU, Joe Russo told the crowd: “He’s not simply a villain — he’s one of the most complex Marvel characters. He’s always three moves ahead.” Thanos, eat your heart out!

Following that, there’s a scene of Professor Charles Xavier at the X-Mansion witnessing a bright flash of light outside, signalling trouble on the horizon. Given Doom’s close connection with mutantkind, it’s not all that surprising that their intuitive leader is seemingly the first to sense the villain’s presence.

Avengers… Assemble!

Over the course of the MCU timeline, we’ve encountered heroes scattered across the multiverse. With teams forming and separating all the time, fans will be happy to hear that all of the key players in Avengers: Doomsday are back where they belong in this trailer.

After the events of Thunderbolts* and The Fantastic 4: First Steps, we knew Marvel’s First Family and the so-called ‘New Avengers’ would be together, but footage at CinemaCon suggests both the X-Men and Sam Wilson’s Avengers team will unite in all their glory, too. We’ll also see the last-surviving original Avengers assemble once more, namely Thor and Captain America.

Thor (Or Stormbreaker) Can’t Handle Doctor Doom

Speaking of Thor, he’s the one hero who takes the fight to Doom in this new trailer. It doesn’t go to plan, though. Remember in Thor: Ragnarok when Hela caught Mjolnir and crushed it into tiny pieces? This time, his weapon of choice appears to be the superior Stormbreaker, but even that’s not good enough to cause Doom any problems – the almighty villain catches the axe with ease.

Thor recounts the duel to his fellow heroes later in the trailer, insisting Doom is more terrifying than any foe he’s faced before. The God of Thunder then says, “Put aside your petty squabbles. Presume nothing except this: If you return, you will return as brothers and sisters… Mark my words: We are going to need a miracle.”

Mutants Are Fighting the Wrong People

Throwing together a whole host of different characters from different sections of the multiverse was always going to cause a few problems, and it sounds like there’s plenty of friction between the various factions of heroes (and anti-heroes).

According to reports from CinemaCon, the trailer includes a scene where Mystique – with Rebecca Romijn reprising her role from the original X-Men movies – fights Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova. Using her mutant abilities, Mystique transforms into a version of Yelena, giving us yet another doppelganger moment. There’s also a scene in which Shang-Chi and Channing Tatum’s Gambit lock horns, which should be interesting given their contrasting combat styles.

Captain America Proves He’s Worthy (Again)

Arguably, the key thing that everyone is waiting for in Avengers: Doomsday is the big return of Chris Evans as Steve Rogers. According to Kevin Feige, “Doomsday picks up where Avengers: Endgame left off,” so it’ll be fascinating to see exactly how Steve actually finds his way back to his old teammates.

In the trailer, the crowning moment involves Thor and Cap reuniting. Thor can’t believe his eyes, uttering the words, “It’s not possible.” But Steve, clearly not awed by the situation, proves his worthiness once more by summoning Mjolnir to his hand, just like he did in Endgame.

On stage in Las Vegas, Evans pointed to the image of Doctor Doom on screen and said, “This guy — I don't like it.” Now, we just have to wait and see if he’s able to do anything about this nefarious new villain, or if he will finally perish in battle.

Beloved heroes from three distinct universes are set on a deadly collision course and face an existential threat unlike anything they've ever encountered.
