When it comes to horror, Apple TV’s Widow’s Bay (2026) has become a sleeper hit. While part of it is due to the dynamic writing of Katie Dippold from Parks and Recreation (2009), a lot of it has to do with the acting. From Matthew Rhys to Kevil Carroll, the actors who play the townspeople of this New England island have created a rich tapestry that you can’t stop watching.

Below, we’ve put together a list of Widow’s Bay’s main cast, proving how truly varied their acting careers are and why they might seem familiar. Some of these actors have had a long-time love for comedy, whereas others might surprise you by the amount of voice acting they’ve done. Either way, we’ve got you covered when it comes to where the Widow’s Bay cast before.

Matthew Rhys as Tom Loftis

For fans of thrillers, the return of Matthew Rhys to our screens is a welcome one. While he might play the neurotic mayor Tom Loftis on Widow’s Bay, he’s beloved for his time as the highly trained and conflicted spy Philip Jennings in the political thriller The Americans (2013), alongside his co-star and long-term partner Keri Russell. Before that, fans knew him from the drama Brothers & Sisters (2006), where he played the loyal yet cynical Kevin Walker.

What might surprise fans of the Welsh actor is that it’s not just his face viewers might be familiar with; it’s also his voice. He played Figgy in Tuca & Bertie (2019), Alrick and Aloysius in Infinity Train (2019), and Gammon and Florid Sword in The Wingfeather Saga (2022). But my personal favorite was his time on Disney’s The Owl House (2020), where he played the antagonistic Emperor Belos.

One to Watch: If you’re looking for a little more horror and a great co-star, try the thriller Hallow Road (2025).

Kingston Rumi Southwick as Evan Loftis

Evan in Widow's Bay

In comparison to the other actors on this list, Kingston Rumi Southwick has the lightest filmography. But his time as Evan, Tom’s son on Widow’s Bay, definitely isn’t the only memorable performance he’s had in his career—and it’s not the first time he’s worked on an Apple TV show, either.

In 2024, Southwick played Kyle Sabich in the Apple TV legal thriller Presumed Innocent (2024). The series starred Jake Gyllenhaal as prosecutor Rusty Sabich, aka Kyle’s father. So, Widow’s Bay isn’t his first time he’s played a son while a well-known actor played his dad. Southwick’s only other notable credits include playing a young Oliver in Prime Video’s 56 Days (2026) and Jaden in Peacock’s Based on a True Story (2023).

One to Watch: If you like a good mystery podcast but want a messy twist with a splash of comedy, try Based on a True Story.

Kate O’Flynn as Patricia

Patricia wearing a tiara in Widow's Bay Season 1, Episode 4

If you watch British TV, you might recognize Kate O’Flynn who plays Patricia on Widow’s Bay because she’s done everything from comedies like Everyone Else Burns (2023) and Happy-Go-Lucky (2008) to crime shows like Death in Paradise (2011) and No Offence (2015). She even had a small role in Bridget Jones’s Baby (2016) as the demanding new boss Alice.

Her most popular recent role comes in the form of the 2024 series My Lady Jane. Her role as the villainous Mary is like night and day in comparison to the lonely yet kind-hearted Patricia. But it does demonstrate how much range O’Flynn has and how that show deserved more time.

One to Watch: If you like O’Flynn’s comedy timing but want to throw the end of the world into the mix, try the comedy Henpocalypse! (2023).

Stephen Root as Wyck

Out of every actor on this Widow’s Bay list, Stephen Root has the most jam-packed filmography. So chances are you’ve seen Root before he started playing the skeptical townie Wyck.

When it comes to his 300+ acting credits, comedy is where Root shines. He played the stapler-obsessed worker Milton in the 1999 classic Office Space. Before that, he was on the opposite side of things as the boss Jimmy in the 1995 comedy series NewsRadio. He even recently dabbled in dark comedy as Monroe Fuches in Bill Hader’s Barry (2018).

Like Rhys, while you might recognize Root’s face, you’ve definitely heard his voice in some of the most popular animated series on TV. For over 250 episodes, he played best friend Bill in King of the Hill (1997). He also played Bud Gleeful in Gravity Falls (2012), Professor Anders in The Legend of Vox Machina (2022), and repeat client Pop Pop Porter in Kim Possible (2002).

One to Watch: If you like Root’s comedic timing, then get to know him as Charles Boyle’s father in Brooklyn Nine-Nine (2013).

Dale Dickey as Rosemary

When you need an actress who isn’t afraid to push herself, you hire someone like Dale Dickey. Her straightforward and crass Rosemary on Widow’s Bay isn’t the first time she’s played a character like this. It’s not even her second, third, or fourth time. Yet, every single time, you’re going to remember her.

In 2005, she played the painfully honest waitress and “daytime hooker” Patty in the comedy series My Name is Earl (2005). She took on a more serious role as the respected werewolf Martha Bozeman in True Blood (2008). And she even played a maternal caretaker in Claws (2017) as Juanda Husser.

To this day, she continues playing memorable characters that push the boundaries of what it means to be a woman in Hollywood, with our most recent favorite being Ma June in Prime Video’s Fallout (2024).

One to Watch: Even though it was a guest spot, she was unforgettable as Spooge’s partner on Breaking Bad (2008). That’s worth a rewatch just for her.

Kevin Carroll as Sheriff Bechir

Sheriff Bechir in Widow's Bay Season 1, Episode 4

When it comes to dealing with supernatural shenanigans, this isn’t actor Kevin Carroll’s first time. On Widow’s Bay, he plays the “I’m so done with all of this” Sheriff Bechir. Previously, he played Zeke Dawes in Let the Right One In (2022). In that series, he was a little more aware of the supernatural ups and downs of the world in the form of vampires.

As if dealing with vampires wasn’t enough, this actor has dealt with zombies in The Walking Dead (2010). In that series, he played Virgil, an antagonist of Michonne’s. Carroll even dealt with the heavenly of this world as an atheist in God Friended Me (2018) and the mysterious mastermind Sinnerman in Lucifer (2016)

One to Watch: If you want to step outside of the supernatural, you have to watch Carroll as Alton Williams in the acclaimed crime drama Snowfall (2017).
