Carrie (2026) was Mike Flanagan's chance to bring an iconic Stephen King book to the small screen. While there were some controversial changes to the story, the series still captured many key elements. But with the season complete, the question remains: How do we find a similar show to fill the void when Carrie itself is so unique?

Of course, with so many supernatural TV shows out there, we have more than enough options that capture what Carrie offered. The best part is that some series also span other genres while still being creepy in all the right ways. Watch them now on Netflix, HBO Max, and more.

The Institute

2025

Adapted from a Stephen King novel, The Institute follows a group of psychic children who are kidnapped and sent to an institute to be experimented on by people who claim they're doing it to save the world. However, things aren't as noble as they seem, and the kids try to stage a breakout.

The conclusion of Carrie sets up the idea that larger forces are at work in the universe beyond Carrie White, and to better understand what that could be like, The Institute is a great follow-up. Even if we don't get a Carrie Season 2, there is at least one way to understand what people in King's world would do with children who have supernatural abilities, and it isn't pretty.

Stranger Things

Stranger Things

2016

The supernatural series to end all supernatural series, Stranger Things, takes place in the '80s and blends the fun of movies like E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982) and The Goonies (1985) to create something totally new. Set in the town of Hawkins, Indiana, a group of friends meets a girl with telekinetic powers tied to a lab that also opened a rift into another dimension of monsters.

Eleven is very much like Carrie in terms of latent mental abilities, but Stranger Things has much more on its plate. While it certainly carries Stephen King influence throughout its five seasons, the show is very much its own thing and is a fun watch from beginning to end, especially if your tastes lean toward sci-fi.

Wednesday

2022

Inspired by the characters from The Addams Family, Wednesday spotlights a teenage Wednesday Addams as she attends boarding school at Nevermore Academy. There, she learns about many supernatural people, from werewolves to sirens. But the series is also a clever murder mystery, with Wednesday always leading the charge.

Wednesday doesn't have the dark undertones of Carrie, but what it lacks in horror it makes up for in the teenage experience, especially for young girls. Like Carrie, Wednesday struggles to fit in, but we see what happens when the person struggling doesn't actually care what other people think. It's a fun antithesis to Carrie with very similar themes.

Another Mike Flanagan series, The Midnight Club follows a group of terminally ill children who meet at night to try and spook one another with scary stories. In between that, they also deal with their own mortality and encounter various supernatural occurrences while they're getting their care. While it's not Flanagan's best work, it still gives us an idea of the building blocks that made Carrie work.

The Midnight Club shows how Flanagan works with kids to create a believable world of friendship and hardship. It also has some substantial scares and prides itself on how closely the main characters interact with one another as they face their own deaths. It's a little grimmer than Carrie, but a great way to understand teenagers through Flanagan's eyes.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina takes the iconic teenage witch and gives her story a much darker undertone as she attends a hellish school to hone her magical gifts. However, as the show progresses, Sabrina must contend with deadly threats and her devilish lineage while also dating and trying to fit in.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is a great alternative look at the high school lifestyle, with Sabrina as a sweet character who comes into her own and gains confidence. Carrie does the same thing in the series as she embraces her power, and it slightly corrupts her.

Following the success of It: Chapter One (2017), Stephen King's most popular story expanded with It: Chapter Two (2019) and later a TV prequel, It: Welcome to Derry. Set 27 years before the first film, we follow a new group of kids learning about and trying to stop Pennywise while also dealing with the dark secrets of Derry.

Much darker than Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Welcome to Derry is a great follow-up to Carrie because it expands the lore of Stephen King's works, but also shows how the towns in his world all have various dangerous secrets. It's fun, scary, and heartbreaking in ways that perfectly balance with Carrie.

I Am Not Okay With This is more on the comedic side, as it follows a young girl who, dealing with a death in the family and pressure from school, as well as her own feelings toward her friend, discovers she is a telekinetic. From there, the problems she encounters become more complicated as she experiences a newfound power.

Of all the shows on this list to pair with Carrie, there's nothing more fitting than I Am Not Okay With This, especially with how well both series balance the struggles of being a teenager and dealing with peers while also struggling with a power the leads can't fully understand. A lighter version of Carrie, I Am Not Okay With This is probably the best show to watch after the horror series.

Impulse
Impulse

Impulse

2018

In Impulse, a young girl endures a traumatic experience; she learns she can teleport, but not without creating collateral damage. Dealing with trying to fit into a new town is hard enough, but her new powers create a deeper level of conflict that's difficult to navigate as a teenager.

Impulse shows the dangers of power when someone is struggling with control, especially due to trauma. What is an amazing gift can easily become a weapon, and Impulse isn't afraid to go there. As a result, it's a great way to continue the chaos that Carrie leaves you with after the final episode.
