What If ‘Gravity Falls’ Took Place In ‘Widow's Bay’? This 2026 Show Has The Answer
If Gravity Falls took place in the world of Widow's Bay, it might look a lot like The Doomies. The 2026 Disney+ animated comedy-horror series follows best friends Bobby and Romy (voiced by Max Mittelman and Madison Calderon) whose quiet little coastal town suddenly becomes filled with monstrous activity after they unintentionally open a portal to the underworld.
If that premise sounds familiar, it's because the show shares a few similarities with Gravity Falls. The 2013 series chronicles the adventures of Dipper (Jason Ritter) and Mabel (Kristen Schaal), who spend the summer with their uncle in a tourist town. When the siblings discover a journal containing secrets about strange creatures and paranormal activity in the area, they decide to investigate.
The biggest difference is that The Doomies takes the mystery out of the equation pretty quickly. Unlike Dipper and Mabel, who spend most of the series trying to understand the strange things happening around them, Bobby and Romy are the reason for the monsters plaguing their town. And they have to figure out what to do about it.
Dipper And Mabel Would Fit Right Into ‘Widow’s Bay’
That's where the Widow's Bay link fits in. The 2026 Apple TV series and the animated show both take a normal community and make it the center of a supernatural problem. However, the characters definitely don't have the same relationship with that problem. Widow's Bay is about a curse that's been affecting the island for centuries.
The show's protagonist, Tom Loftis (Matthew Rhys), is actually an outsider to that history despite being the town's mayor, which is why he spends almost all of the first season trying to convince himself that the island isn't cursed. If you trade in his particular brand of denial for Dipper and Mabel’s curiosity, you would get a version of The Doomies.
Although the siblings wouldn't be the reason for unlocking the curse, Dipper would almost certainly start digging into the island's history as soon as he realized there was more to the strange events than the locals were letting on. The stories about the town would give him loads of clues to follow, especially if he discovered that seemingly unrelated incidents were connected to the curse.
Mabel would probably be more interested in the people and how they have managed to live alongside the curse for so many years. That setup could make the twins' investigation feel a lot like the kind of chaotic summer adventure that made Gravity Falls so memorable, while bringing in the acceptance of supernatural events found in Window’s Bay.
What Happens In ‘The Doomies’?
The Doomies doesn't leave Bobby and Romy wondering whether something supernatural is happening for very long. After finding a megalith that serves as a gateway to Subterra, the friends accidentally open it and unleash the supernatural on their town. Bobby is also cursed in the process, giving the pair an even more personal reason to figure out how to undo their mistake.
From there, the series expands its story beyond the original portal. Bobby and Romy meet the so-called Chosen One, who has been summoned by the town's mysterious lighthouse keeper to help protect everyone from the creatures appearing around them. These new allies prove useful for the protagonists as the monster situation becomes more difficult to control.
Individual episodes build on that larger story while giving Bobby and Romy new supernatural problems to deal with. One story sees Bobby being hunted by a swamp monster and a warrior who believes he's a threat to the town, while another has the friends searching for the Ragatta Rock, which could hold the answer to Bobby's curse.
