‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Just Teased Its Final Battle Location - And It Makes Perfect Sense
Avengers: Doomsday (2026) has brought us two trailers that explore the various characters we will be seeing take on the looming threat of an incursion as well as the power of Doctor Doom. But aside from that, there's very little we know about where the movie is set or where many of the battles take place.
We can confirm, at the very least, that one battle will be in the X-Men's universe in their mansion and probably their front lawn. But the battle against Doctor Doom looks entirely different and messier, which could mean that the final battle isn't on an Earth at all but in The Void.
‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Hides The Void in Plain Sight
The trailers for Avengers: Doomsday do something that no other movie has done: they focus less on location and more on character close-ups and battles. In fact, the only wide shots we ever see are of Avengers Tower and, in the D23 Special Look, a decimated New York City. Aside from that, we have no idea what to expect from the film and where it's being set.
There are a few wider shots we see that aren't of cities but are of decimated locations surrounded by rubble. It could be that this is the X-Men's reality being slowly broken apart by an incursion, but with Loki having a role in the film, it adds to the theory that it's The Void. Even if the Time Variance Authority isn't pruning timelines anymore, that doesn't mean they might still do it just to stop Doom, including the X-Men's world.
The Void looks like a wasteland, is surrounded by the remnants of pruned realities, and exists at the end of time. With everything about this film leaning so much on the end of everything, a final battle at the end of time feels like a given.
What Is The Void in the MCU?
The Void was introduced in Loki (2021-2023) as a dumping ground for the TVA. When they used to prune timelines to maintain the Sacred Timeline, they would send everything within to The Void, a location set at the end of time. Whatever or whoever survived would subsequently be food for a powerful being known as Alioth.
Alioth was a sentient purple cloud that fed on everything, reducing it to dust and erasing it from time, serving as a clean way to keep The Void from getting overcrowded. That said, there were survivors within The Void, as well as variants of Loki banding together, and Deadpool & Wolverine (2024) shows villains like Cassandra Nova and heroes like Blade working to fight one another.
Since the defeat of Kang and He Who Remains, The Void has served as a blank canvas at the end of time, with enough potential to be reworked into something else, and beings like Alioth have been destroyed or harnessed for other purposes. That purpose could finally reveal itself following a final battle in Avengers: Doomsday.
The Final Battle Being Set in The Void Sets Up ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’
Final battle locations are always important in action movies, and the MCU is no exception. Each Avengers film had a final battle in a location that would play a larger role in the future of the franchise, and having the final fight in The Void perfectly sets up what could become Battleworld.
In the Secret Wars comic, Doom uses the Beyonders' power to trigger an incursion, changing reality and creating a world in his image: Battleworld. This world was made up of various societies, including a city policed by Thors, a Wild West world, and an area overrun by zombies.
The Void has all the opportunity to be just like this, and even teased it with a Secret Wars cover in Deadpool & Wolverine. Should Doom get the power, being in The Void is more than enough of a chance to create a reality in his image where the denizens know peace. But, like the comic, it also means those not on the surface and on an ark for safety could return to stop Doom and the world that he built from a place hidden at the end of time in Avengers: Secret Wars (2027).
