Acclaimed dissident filmmaker Sepideh Farsi is a powerful voice in Iranian cinema. Her movies range from documentary to drama and everything in between. Despite some movies throughout the 90s such as “Northwind” (1993) and “The world is my home” (1999), Farsi first drew international attention for her documentary “Homi D. Sethna, filmmaker” (2000) and went on to make movies such as “Tehran Without Permission” (2009), a movie shot entirely on a Nokia phone due to political restrictions. Her other notable movies include “Red Rose” (2014), “The Siren” (2023), which premiered at the 73rd Berlin International Film Festival, and “Put Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk” (2025), a powerful documentary about the Palestinian journalist Fatima Hassouna from Gaza.
