Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, Episode 10's Explosive Ending, Explained
A superb second season of Daredevil: Born Again has now come to an end, with a finale that was just as explosive and exciting as we would hope.
In Season 2, Wilson Fisk and his Anti-Vigilante Task Force (AVTF) became increasingly dangerous as their power went unchecked. As a result, New York City fell under martial law. That came at a cost, though, with Vanessa Fisk paying the price for the ongoing conflict.
Meanwhile, Matt Murdock largely worked in the shadows while assembling an army of citizens willing to fight alongside Daredevil to take back their city. The tension on the streets spilt into the courtroom for the climactic showdown in Daredevil: Born Again, Season 2, Episode 10, the key events and ending of which we’ve broken down below in all their spoilery glory.
Matt Murdock Reveals His Big Secret
In Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again, Matt Murdock made a risky play by dragging Fisk into a new kind of fight by putting him on the stand, but it paid off. The nifty lawyer backed his nemesis into a corner to uncover the truth about the sinking of the Northern Star, providing a video testimony from Achilleo Kyriaco. However, that wasn’t enough to pin the blame on Fisk, so Matt had to deliver another witness.
The only other person who could confirm what happened on that ship was Daredevil… so Matt made the ultimate sacrifice by revealing himself as the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen. That decision helps to get Karen’s case dismissed and incriminates Fisk, but it also means Matt must now pay for the multiple times he has broken the law.
By the end of the episode, Matt’s in jail. Just how long he will stay there in Season 3, however, is another matter.
Wilson Fisk Evades Justice
On the other side of the coin, Fisk manages to get away with his crimes fairly lightly. After initially refusing to back down and brawling his way through countless protestors in bloody, brutal fashion, Kingpin is eventually saved by Matt and told to surrender. He does so, giving up his position as Mayor and his New York citizenship.
He’s even jetted off to a private island, which sounds pretty lavish until you realise Fisk is basically now marooned, all alone, having lost everything. Does he deserve to rot in prison instead? Absolutely. But secluding this monster from everything and everyone is going to hurt him, too.
Jessica Jones and Luke Cage Return
As we mentioned before, Daredevil didn’t have to fight this battle on his own. Alongside the swathes of angry citizens, he had his former Defenders member Jessica Jones back him up. That wasn’t a surprise for anyone following the show, as she had already popped up a couple of times this season. However, her involvement in the climactic conflict was never certain, given that she has childcare issues to handle, too.
The reason behind those issues was that her partner, Luke Cage, was away working as a mercenary for Mr Charles. By the end of the episode, they’re reunited, and Luke tells Jessica he has cut ties with that particular shady operation. In fact, he even set Mr Charles up with a new employee…
Is Bullseye Joining a New Team?
Dex (aka Bullseye) has been on a chaotic journey that led to some version of a very messed-up redemption this season. He’s still been killing people, sure, but at least he’s been offing the bad guys now. In the finale, he takes a shot at Buck and forces Fisk to hide away in City Hall for a while, and then that’s the last we see of him.
At least, it is until the closing moments of the show when he’s revealed to be on a plane sitting next to Mr Charles. The pair get to talking, and while it’s not explicitly stated, it looks like Bullseye will be the latest anti-hero recruited to Valentina Allegra de Fontaine’s team.
BB Urich Gets a Job at The Bulletin
Speaking of new jobs, BB Urich evaded Buck Cashman’s clutches thanks to Daniel’s sacrifice in the penultimate episode – and she makes the most of that opportunity in the Daredevil: Born Again finale. Thanks to her latest viral video clip, BB stokes the flames by urging the masses to rise and reclaim the city, and they listen.
After the dust settles, we see the young journalist welcomed to the team at The Bulletin, the newspaper where her late father, Ben, used to work. BB also receives a box of his belongings, including special newspaper clippings, inspiring her to do even more great work in the future.
The White Tiger Returns (And So Does Muse)
While BB follows in the footsteps of her father, Angela Del Toro has taken up the mantle of the White Tiger left behind by her uncle, Hector Ayala. We’ve already seen glimpses of what she can do, but in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, Episode 10, she really gets stuck into the thick of the action and helps take down a few AVTF officers alongside the titular hero.
But as one new hero emerges, another villain is also teased. Heather Glenn has been battling her demons for some time, and it seems she has well and truly cracked now. Haunted by the attack from the serial killer Muse, the troubled psychiatrist decides to put on his mask in this episode, and she appears to like the face looking back at her. Get ready for more unhinged murders in Season 3, then…
