Tim Burton has been one of the world’s leading filmmakers for almost 40 years, starting with his first hit, 1985’s Pee-wee’s Big Adventure. Since then, Burton has become known for his trademark style that’s so uniquely him it’s almost hard to describe. Filled with a mix of quirky curiosity and gothic gloom, Burton is a masterful filmmaker who continually and inventively turns melancholy into an exciting art form.

He’s best known for his seminal late-80s and early-90s hits like Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands, where he blended bright colors with gloomy worlds. The films were somehow both compelling and mature, while also being fun for the entire family. But Burton has continued having huge hits throughout his career, like 2010’s Alice in Wonderland, which grossed over $1 billion at the box office, and his hit 2024 Beetlejuice sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.

While all of Burton’s movies have his signature auteur touch, his filmography is remarkably varied, delving into everything from horror (Sleepy Hollow) to animated family films (Corpse Bride), and even superhero movies (Batman). With 20 (and counting) films under his belt, there’s never been a better time to explore Burton’s vast filmography. Here are all of his movies, ranked, and where to stream and rent them online.
