You can’t talk about Selena Gomez’s career without starting with Wizards of Waverly Place. The Disney Channel series ran for four seasons from 2007-2012, producing 106 episodes. In the show, Gomez plays Alex Russo, one of three magical siblings who are training to one day compete for complete control over their family’s powers. Throughout the series, the siblings use their powers in everyday life (even though they're not supposed to), while also trying to conceal their secret from everyone else. Wizards was a huge hit and attracted millions of viewers each episode. It also spawned two hit Disney Channel Original Movies, Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie and The Wizards Return: Alex vs. Alex.
Like many Disney stars, shortly after the finale of her series Gomez wanted to promote herself as a more grown-up actress and starred in the raunchy, R-rated crime comedy Spring Breakers. In the film, a group of college girls (Gomez, Venessa Hudgens, and Ashley Benson) have a wild night during spring break. After getting in a bit of trouble, they seek help from a drug dealer (James Franco) and eventually get sucked into the dirty underworld of crime. Spring Breakers is also notable because it was the first major hit for the young studio A24, which has since gone on to dominate film festivals and Hollywood.
Selena Gomez also stars in a hit film franchise that has grossed hundreds of millions of dollars at the box office – Hotel Transylvania. The film series follows a human who accidentally checks into a hotel for monsters that’s owned and operated by Dracula and his family. In the films, Gomez plays Mavis, Dracula’s daughter who ends up falling in love with the hotel’s human visitor. Gomez has reprised her role for all three sequels, including Hotel Transylvania 2, Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation, and Hotel Transylvania: Transformania.
But right now Gomez is best known for her role in Only Murders in the Building. The series follows Gomez, Martin, and Short as they try to solve mysterious murders that happen around them.
