Daisy Ridley Reveals Her ‘Guilty Pleasure’ Movies | Sorry Not Sorry
Daisy Ridley’s rise to fame was stratospheric, but being the main character in a Star Wars film will do that for you.
Ridley, of course, played Rey in the sequel trilogy that began with Star Wars: Episode VII: The Force Awakens. Although the movies took a lot of money, certain pockets of the fandom were unhappy with some of the plot developments, and the admission of liking the middle film, The Last Jedi, can get you mobbed in some circles. As such, it could be classed as a guilty pleasure, but not if you ask Daisy Ridley.

Speaking to JustWatch, she explained that she does not believe in the concept of a guilty pleasure. The whole idea of a guilty pleasure suggests that in admitting love of certain movies or television shows should be shameful or embarrassing, and Ridley does not conform to that mindset, telling us, “I really take no shame, and I don’t think anyone should.”
In many ways, what Ridley is saying is correct, we should all own the things that we love and shouldn’t care if that makes us appear less cool or a less serious cinephile when compared to others. Daisy Ridley is certainly leading the charge as she shared an impassioned speech about an almost unknown film, Jingle Bell Heist.
Daisy Ridley Is Not Remotely Ashamed Of Her Love Of ‘Jingle Bell Heist’
Starring Heart Eyes’ Olivia Holt, Jingle Bell Heist is a Christmas romantic comedy that arrived on Netflix at the end of 2025. The ‘heist’ aspect of the story comes into play when two strangers decide to team up to rob a London department store in the run up to Christmas. It being a romantic comedy, the couple inevitably fall in love with one another. Jingle Bell Heist is pure film fluff and is the perfect example of a movie that would get the movie snobs looking down on you were you to confess that you had watched it, let alone enjoyed it. But Daisy Ridley does not care about anyone’s opinions of her movie watching habits. She said: “It’s not a ‘sorry, not sorry’ but it's something that I watched and really enjoyed.”
Ridley was keen to share exactly what it is about Jingle Bell Heist that she likes so much, explaining, “It’s so delightful, it was what I wanted it to be. The performances are great.” Sometimes you just need to settle in with a film that isn’t going to cause too much stress, and it sounds as though Jingle Bell Heist has those comfort movie properties. It’s one of those films that you can snuggle up on the sofa with after a hard day at work and just escape into its picture perfect world. Opting to watch it anytime outside of the festive season seems a little odd, but I’d definitely note down Jingle Bell Heist for next December's viewing.

‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ Is High Camp And Daisy Ridley Is A Big Fan
In addition to having a soft spot for cheesy Christmas movies, Daisy Ridley is also a fan of horror. Before parting ways with JustWatch she was quick to add another pick to her list. “I tell you something too that I really enjoyed, I Know What You Did Last Summer,” she added. Genre fans will know that there are technically two movies within the same franchise with that name, but Daisy Ridley was specifically referencing the new version which arrived in 2025.
This I Know What You Did Last Summer followed in the footsteps of the fifth Scream film and rather than being a straight reboot or sequel, became a ‘requel’ instead. For the uninformed, a requel is essentially a reboot with a new cast that also includes legacy characters from the original movies. Therefore, it is a continuation for the returning characters making it a sequel for them, but a fresh endeavour for most of the cast that retells the original story to some degree, placing it in reboot territory. In the case of I Know What You Did Last Summer, a new group of college kids cover up their involvement in an accidental death, only to be stalked by a hook-handed fisherman a year later. As their troubles intensify, they call on the help of the survivours of the first two films: Julie and Ray.
For Daisy Ridley, what makes I Know What You Did Last Summer so exciting is the film's camp factor. Ridley explained: “I was like it’s camp! It’s great and I love it!” Much of the camp elements can be found in the guise of new Croaker Queen, Danica. Played by Outer Banks star, Madelyn Cline, Danica is a pampered princess whose reactions to the horror around her generate a lot of laughs. Her desire for a drink in the wake of the death of someone close to her, but not being able to because ‘beer makes you bloat’, coupled with her dedication to her skincare routine, make her gloriously fabulous. The post credits sequence, which sees the return of another legacy character, will leave fans well and truly gagged, and Ridley is not wrong to defend this film.
As with Jingle Bell Heist, there is no shame in admitting that you prefer your scary movies with their tongue placed firmly in cheek. I Know What You Did Last Summer is never going to find itself at the Oscars, but it holds a special spot in Daisy Ridley’s heart, and that feels like an excellent place to be. Moreover, from speaking with Ridley, maybe it is time that we reclaim the term guilty pleasure, drop the guilty and just openly enjoy and celebrate the films we love.
