Bollywood is also bringing its A-game, with mega-stars like Alia Bhatt, Salman Khan, and Akshay Kumar taking centre stage in adrenaline-fueled films like Alpha, Sikandar, and Sky Force, all set to release in 2025.
So if you need something to get you excited about the New Year, here’s a list of JustWatch’s top 50 most exciting movies releasing in 2025.
The biggest Indian movies releasing in 2025
After two years in production, Akshay Kumar’s latest war-action biopic, Sky Force, is all set to blow everyone’s minds away this Republic Day. The thrilling aerial-action film covers the events of the Indo-Pakistani air war of 1965, and features a star-studded line-up with Akshay Kumar headlining the film as an Indian air-force officer, alongside Nimrat Kaur and Sara Ali Khan.
The film will battle it out in cinemas alongside Aamir Khan and Sunny Deol’s war-action thriller Lahore1947, which is inspired by the events of the great partition. Adding to this lineup, Salman Khan’s Sikandar will hit theatres on Eid, March 30, ensuring an action-packed start to the year. Between Lahore1947, Sikandar, and Sky Force, we've only scratched the surface of the biggest films of Q1.
With upcoming releases like Alpha, War 2, and Housefull 5 later in the year, 2025 promises to be an exhilarating year for Indian moviegoers, packed with thrilling cinema from start to finish.
The biggest Hollywood movies releasing in 2025
2025 is shaping up to be a year of reboots, remakes, and sequels that fans have long been awaiting. Tron: Ares, the follow-up to Tron: Legacy, will finally arrive in cinemas after a 15-year wait, and will serve as the final chapter in the long drawn Tron trilogy. Sci-fi fans can also look forward to Avatar: Fire & Ash, the latest instalment in James Cameron’s blockbuster Avatar franchise. This new chapter will take viewers on a darker, more intense journey through the uncharted and mystical lands of Pandora, possibly making it less suitable for younger audiences.
But that’s no reason to get sad as there's still plenty for audiences of all ages to enjoy, with family-friendly releases like Wicked: Part 2, starring pop icon Ariana Grande, and Disney’s live-action Snow White remake both hitting screens next year.
Marvel fans also have a lot to look forward to with Captain America: Brave New World. The movie sees Sam Wilson stepping up as the new Captain America after inheriting the shield from Steve Rogers and is set for a 2025 release. For those who miss the quirky ensemble of Guardians of the Galaxy, Thunderbolts* – Marvel's latest upcoming anti-hero team film, featuring a band of misfits led by the troubled assassin Yelena Belova, is sure to be a must-watch.
Next year’s lineup also features a slate of exciting original stories. Director Antoine Fuqua will offer a behind-the-scenes look at one of music’s most iconic figures with Michael, a biographical drama about Michael Jackson. You may be wondering why Fuqua, a director best known for action-packed thrillers like The Equalizer and Shooter, would take on a biopic like Michael. But what many don’t know is that he started his career directing music videos for icons like Prince and Stevie Wonder, making him a natural fit for this project.
Mickey 17 is another film generating buzz and excitement from audiences worldwide, as it's the first project from filmmaker Bong Joon-ho after his multiple Academy Award wins at the Oscars for Parasite.
With such a colourful mix of wholesome animated adventures, high-octane action, thrilling dramas, and mind-bending originals, 2025 is shaping up to be an exciting year for moviegoers of all ages and tastes.
