Steven DeKnight is a writer and director of movies and television shows. He was an early writer on “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” (2000–2002) and “Angel” (2002–2004), in which he got his first taste of directing. He went on to write and direct episodes of shows such as “Smallville” (2004–2007) and the Joss Whedon series “Dollhouse” (2009). DeKnight was creator, showrunner, writer, and executive producer of “Spartacus” (2010–2013), in which he oversaw four seasons of the show. He returned as showrunner and executive producer for “Spartacus: House of Ashur” (2025). DeKnight was showrunner, producer, writer, and occasional director of the beloved “Daredevil” (2015) series created by Drew Goddard and starring Charlie Cox. He was also a director, writer, creator, and showrunner of the Netflix superhero series “Jupiter’s Legacy” (2021), based on a comic from Mark Millar and Frank Quitely. While most of his work has been on the small screen, he wrote and directed the sci-fi action movie “Pacific Rim Uprising” (2018).
